I actually like your homesteading videos better than your travel videos now. I used to do rv travel and settled on a small homestead. Maybe that makes me old lol
Glad you're getting everything put in place to make it easier for you in the future. Love that you're putting in RV parking and have a dump station for your friends to use. The place sure is coming together with your vision for the property. Really liking everything you're putting in place to make it home sweet home. Sure hope you have someone staying on the property while you're traveling out of state. Happy trails and safe travels to you and the kitties!
I have indoor cats and occasionally they get out. It's terrifying. I'm glad Tara came to her food dish. The solar looks terrific and being off grid is the way to go. Take care of yourself, Tara and Opie.
Awesome setup! You're blessed to have a piece of land like this and able to to make it what you want. I pray that you are prepared to defend your land. With everything that is going on right now, that threat is real. God bless.
I just like to say I like it that you all are finding places you can run too. Nobody can kick you off you are all safe it so hard watching when lock down happened. Well done
I am glad you happy with your homestead starting to get better & better and now you have the best of two worlds, like some of your friends, having a home base closer to your family helps and friends, and you can be a host for the tribe hahaha until later my friend...........
Good for Tara glad she escape got some free time, Also very glad she just hung outside and came right back to you....... its her way of saying next project is outside enclosed kitty area dad heck i even jsut showed you a way we could go in and out the rv to it at our leasure.
Eric, you may wanna concider building a large catio outside then you know they can enjoy the outside but are still contained and safe . Tara just wanted to do a bit of exploring . so glad Tara came back and didnt adventure very far from the house .
Heads up - We were automatically unsubscribed and I’ve posted a few comments about it but those comments have disappeared too. What a world! Thanks for your video!
I went to San Diego in August and they have solar everywhere. The schools and colleges have erected giant solar arrays over the parking lots providing not only power but shaded parking. Every home has solar panels on the roof
Love the solar! Instead of going towards your driveway with more panels, maybe you could go up? Also, catching rain water is a great idea, you can use two runs of gutters, one between the panels to plug that gap and one on the bottom.
I really related with your solar/wind discussion. Being in Mt. Hood, Oregon area, I have a creek running under my front porch. I set up a hydro generator and have the batteries in the shed. I added one wind mill and now I'm always topped off. Solar might work up here, but I'd not want to be tredding out and brushing the snow off the panels every morning.
Solar is great but, It would be vital to your survival to get a private well for water, or even one of those pump things you see at campgrounds everywhere. In the odd event that you can't get water refilled anymore if something really bad happens for a couple years. Dry Food storage, lots of it. stays good for 25 years.
$70,000 to dig for water here thru this rock... And 2-3 years out if you have that kind of money. Or 1 cent per gallon to haul it yourself (which is what 99% over everyone does out here)
Here is a little bit of advice from someone who’s living through it. Eating that much potatoes and grease all the time put a lot of undue stress on your heart and give you a heart attack. That is because of the high potassium. I did get a heart attack. I got smarter and started eating more greens and being healthier. That’s all I am trying to tell you, Eric. I’m not saying you can’t eat potatoes and greasy foods but just less of it. And again it’s a blue shed and a Harley motorcycle or a hog. Later.
Eric that is so cool and I am so happy for you. I'm not a cat person, but when you said you lost Terra my heart sank. So glad that turned out good. Your place is turning out so nice.
Very interesting Eric. I know zero about Solar so I got an education! Thank you! Definately didnt know that there are tilting panels. Glad you got your Tara back! She seems so shy it surprses me she even went out of her home. ❤😸
Have you thought about building a cat run? It's essentially the same as a massive bird aviary, but it's for cats. It doesn't need to have a roof (but some shelter helps), it mostly just needs to have sides that cats can't climb over. Where I live in Australia, it's now law that cats are no longer allowed to roam free (because they eat the native creatures). People must either keep their cats indoors or they can build a cat run. They're easy to build. I've helped to build a few of them. We added things like shade, plants, some climbing platforms and a huge water bowl for the cats. 🙂 To build one, you just need some cheap fence posts, such as the metal posts that were used as anchors for your solar panels, and some chook wire (chicken wire). You'd probably need to curve the top of the fencing inwards, at the top, or do something similar, because cats can usually still climb up most fencing.
Glad to see the kitties, and that they are both safe. How about a memory garden for Jax. I know he was never on this property, but so many of us long-term followers miss him. Please think about it. Take care.
Honestly, I love your homesteading videos best. I envy you. You are doing what I can only wish I could do. Great solar setup! Thank God Opie stuck around...I can imagine your heart attack. So happy for you Eric. I love your homestead.👍😁
Your doing great , I love watching you get your place in order. You got to watch silent type going out catting all night. So thankful she came home safe. God Bless
Wow. That is wonderful. Hey…off grid is a good idea. Wish I could be like that but at my age I am not in the position to take that adventure on. This is great and am happy for you. CVK has for sure started a movement. SMILE😊
You just didn’t realize you had an outdoor cat 😂. Happened to me also and now he’s my barn cat. I live on close to 900acres though so it’s not the end of the world if he wanders off. He comes inside and hangs out as much as he wants and then goes outside and does his thing out there. I catch him all the time laying on top of the calves and some of the bulls. It’s strange he stays away from my milkers
How about a few more solar panels on the top of the Blue Box, seems like a very easy add-on. Yep, you have to try . . . to be as smart as those cats. Tough to do.
Her escaping is so scary. Thank goodness she is back safe. Please take care all 3 of you, lots of ❤️🥰❤️ love. 💖 love the video, 👍😉 so happy for you that things are coming along for you. 😁
Wow it's been a year since you got this property. Dang it sure don't seem like it's been that long ago. I'm enjoying seeing what all you plan on doing with the place. Sure glad Tara came to the sound of her food bowl. One of my cats has started door dashing in the last couple of years, ugh. Funny thing is he doesn't really want outside. I swear he just does it to upset me haha
Hey Eric, love the basecamp videos. That solar farm looks great.. You're doing exactly what I hope to do here in Florida. A self sufficient property with solar grid, a well and septic. Also several fruit tree's spread throughout and chickens for eggs to start. Later rabbits for potential protein and manure has more nutrients than cow or chicken manure. Adventure on my friend.
I'm not criticizing you but you don't have 800 amp hours because In a series connection, the ampere-hour capacity of the battery bank remains the same as that of a single battery. The capacity of the battery bank is determined by the capacity of the individual batteries in the series. For example, if you connect four 12V batteries with a capacity of 100Ah each in series, the total capacity remains 100Ah. In a parallel connection of batteries, the ampere-hour capacity of the battery bank increases. When batteries are connected in parallel, the ampere-hour ratings of each individual battery are summed. For example, if you have four 12V batteries with a capacity of 100Ah each and connect them in parallel, the total capacity of the battery bank will be 400Ah (4 batteries x 100Ah each). dude, you are living my dream, good for you! I've watched you on and off for years!
You are correct but I want to add to this: Power = voltage * current So if 4 batteries in series are 48v at 100 AH, they will store 4800 watt-hours. If 4 batteries are in parallel, they are 12v at 400 AH, they will still store 4800 watt hours. The decision on how to hook these up depends on efficiencies. Higher voltages with lower amps is generally more efficient so the 48v series connection is likely best if your inverter can handle it. If your inverter is meant for 48v, and you add more batteries you may have to have multiple blocks of 4 in series and then each block is parallel.
I hate to be this guy but... haha I used to work at a lumber yard and when the rock driveway got sloppy we would drag a pallet with some cement bags on it behind an ATV and it made the rocks look amazing. It's a very cheap solution.
Just a thought when your able I would get you a metal carpet for your rv so it would be easier on your ac when it's warm..well I guess that would be a bad idea for your panels on your rv lol
Hi Eric, I'm so happy that Tara came back. Yes, that would be terrifying . Your smile is soooooo contagious. I'm smiling for you. what you've done in a year is amazing. Things are really looking so good. thanks for sharing, hugs to all, Louise

I agree, I like the homestead videos too, and what Kevin is doing homesteading too.
@@anandrew6641Eventually we all want to come home to our “castle” to have a place that is just ours.
Awesome video and we’re glad Tara is okay 👍

I agree a catio is the way to go...reinforce the bottom half to deter desert predators.
Placed chicken wire all across the base, so nothing can get in by digging Or hardware cloth.
This is all so exciting! I love learning new things! ❤
