The kicks are bad, there are 2 types of takers. Those who wait until the keeper moves and those who place their shots in one direction, his with precision and power. Only one taker from cape Verde followed any of the 2 methods. The keeper dived in the correct direction but the ball was hit with power above mid range height. We were taught to pick the 4 corners of the 🥅, and never hit into the central areas EXCEPT you had the confidence to wait for the keeper to pick his movement, when you spot that you place the ball in the opposite direction. It's tricky. Some keepers wait till the ball moves, others jump at full stretch in one chosen direction. That's where the scouting of the opponent comes in.
He saved them because he watched the ball--not the man --a keeper wont save a good penalty--but by watching the ball he will save all the soft ones. just like he did.
I still cannot believe such goalkeeping happened in my lifetime. In the 43 years of watching professional football, I'd never seen such goalkeeping. He saved 2 goals during the match. That should've sent us packing.
