    A project manager once told me he threw out lowest and highest bids instead focusing on the middle bids (these were contracts in the $100,000s+ range). He explained that lowest bids were either wannabes or those who would change order (extra $ outside of contract) everything and highest bids were from those who didn't want the contract, generally due to being too busy or even dislike of client.

    • @dominickjustave3558

      Higher bids are usually larger companies who don't work cheap

      "dislike of client."
      Yea. It certainly goes both ways. I've done large commercial office builds where the client would ask us to phase it out, (build the office in sections) then default on the contract payments as soon as phase 1 was complete. They will then rent out the phase 1 area until they have enough money to fund phase 2 etc. This is a common tactic when a client doesnt actually have enough money to complete the contracted work, so they con their way through to get what they want. Obviously this only works with contractors that don't vet their clients or require a surety, but it happens all the time.

      I think that's what they do in court if say you sued someone for damaging your car, you get multiple estimates and the court would award you the median average.

    Kudos to the guys making this. You can say all of that about good contractors not being cheap but if you are a good contractor then you should be angry that these sorry slobs do crappy work and call themselves contractors. We opened up an account at a local building supply store for a guy that was doing a project for us. He was referred to us by someone We wanted to trust. We drove over to see how it was going a few times and he had just stopped working. We asked to see receipts for what he had bought and they didn't add up by a long shot. He finally quit answering our calls. We went by the store to check on the acct and there were several purchases that had nothing to do with our project. On top of this we had given him a distribution for labor. We were taken for about 8,000. It could have been worse but we had taken money out of our meager retirement to have a small home rent free in our old age. My husband is 66 and I'm 61 with health issues. The distribution was only 13,000. And a 10,000 LAR account. He's nowhere to be found.

    My dad was one of those guys that you would have gone after. He used to do do some great work and some crap work. He picked and chose who got the good work and who didn't. He passed away 10 years ago so there's nothing for you go go after but when I worked with him and he did shitty work, it was so embarrassing. I had to quit working for him after about the 4th or 5th job.

    • @marcpower4167
      @marcpower4167 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think that's true, If anything the bodyguard might be there in case a fight breaks out. I've seen episodes where the contractor walked away and Adam & Skip or a producer would try to stop them and reason with them. There was another case the guy said he was gonna come back and didn't so they had Allison track him down again and confronted him at the site of another job.
      Ultimately on the show they tell him either give them back the money or come back and do the work properly under our supervision. If they won't do either one, the show and their staff will do the work and will provide legal counsel to the homeowners if they want to sue the contractor.

    Never trust a construction contractor who drives up in a Range Rover or a luxurious vehicle of any kind. If that’s what they drive to the job site then they’re overcharging you to pay for that fancy ride. A good contractor would be driving a truck or a van, not a Denali or Platinum edition either. It should have took boxes & equipment in it, not flip down dvd/tv’s in it.

    First thing is you never pay a contractor till the job is completed. 2nd never take the low ball bid. 3rd try to find a reputable contractor who is licensed and bonded and insured. So there is some blame on the homeowner by trying to be cheap and hire the cheapest bid with a so called contractor.

    What about a show name catch a home owner. Their are a lot good contractors and sub contractors but the good ones that are, honest trustworthy and knowledgeable contractors do cost money. What people need to understand the quality cost money. Just because this is not college degree type of job people who work in the Housing industry. Have to invest an the normous amount of time in learning their trade. You need to have intelligence ingenuity experience and patience to do this type of job. But homeowners think that you should only be allowed to make $15 an hour for the trade that you expend enormous amount of time in Learning and Development. It's even worse when you are minority like a Hispanic or an African American. people want to nickel-and-dime you to death and believe that you are not allowed to make quality amount of money for the trade that you know. Stupid ass Adam Carolla doesn't show when quality contractors do great quality job and homeowners use any kind of excuse not to pay them. that side of the coin is never shown in these type of shows because it's not viewable on TV.
    People need to understand that skilled labor is not cheap and cheap labor is not skill
