I love the episode where Martok confronts Kor and he doesn’t even remember who he is. Reminder that a forgettable act by one person can have such a large impact on another.
Met J.G. Hertzler at sci-fi con and he was fantastic. A truly powerful presence and a great gentleman. It was an honour to meet and talk with him at length
One of my Top Five all-time "secondary" characters. I always want to learn more about him, so thank you for shining a well-deserved and much needed spotlight on him!
coming from ds9 martok is my favorite klingon outside worf i love to see him again he did had a cameo in lower deck as a avatar in a computor game or what ever they played
I've become a fan of Star Trek fairly late in life. While manically binging media (currently ds9) I've come to love worf and Martok. Honorable Klingons are one among my favorite character types of any genre. Thanks for expanding my knowledge of ST lore. Much appreciated.
The only person I can think of who might have been able to do a comparable job is Jeremy Irons, but they have similar voice qualities even though they are from different countries and I actually think they could do each other's characters very well. I think it would've been better to bring back Jeremy Irons in the live action lion King instead of James Earl Jones or in addition to him But if they couldn't get irons, JG Hertzler would have probably made an excellent Scar, much better than the guy they cast.
I’m quite sure that you have numerous planned videos, but I have suggestion or a potentially interesting lore topic. Due to the original series being cancelled before the characters could complete there titular five year mission, it has been left to beta sources to depict what that period looked like. I think it would be really interesting to see how different aspects of treks multimedia dealt with it, particularly the year four and five IDW comics that framed themselves as being the definitive take. Just an idea. Regardless, I’m sure that your videos will continue to be excellent.
Martok was not a soldier on the generals flagship. He was not allowed to join even as a common soldier after Kor's mark. He served as a civilian labourer which he states in the DS9 episode "Once more unto the breach".
Worf is the most honorable Klingon, but Martok is likely the greatest Klingon. He's as good as it gets for a Klingon born and raised in the Empire in that time period. You can tell how great he is via his interactions with Nog. It's not just the big things, but the small things.
I agree, Kurn was great, chancellor Gorkon was honorable, K’mpek was a coward and a liar but tried to do right by the people and Gowran was in love with his own legend. Kharn was great but Martok is best.
my favourite star trek character of all! You just wanna hang out with him, and I like that he's considerate and polite to people of different races. Even in Star Trek Online I appreciate the devs letting him be best friends with the player, some of their dialogues are funny, such as when he wants to drag us to drink with him or tormenting Ferengis.
Martok really is the best Klingon character ever. He reminds me of Gotrek (from Warhammer Fantasy) who _also_ couldn't earn a warrior's death, no matter what war he joined or monster he took on. He even survived the literal end of the world lol The actor is a cool guy too.
Unrelated: Just watched Voyage home again for old times sake. Whatever happened to that probe and the lady from 86 San Fran? Also, they got a new enterprise at the end? Did they just rename an existing ship? Make a video haha!
In the episode 'Far Beyond the Stars' it is Martok's stand-in that draws the picture of a space station that give Benny Russell inspiration for his Sisko stories. Because of this, i always Imagined Martok was artisticly inclined.
you can of course put whatever in your head canon that you want especially if it's not contradicted in actual canon but I would submit that just because his counterpart had a certain talent does not mean it reflects on him. The counterpart of all the other main cast members had characteristics that were similar but also characteristics that were different, so clearly not all of them would carry over to the people from the station that they represented.
Star Trek Online overdoes it with Martok, having the entirely of the Tzenkethi's job to make him look bad ass even though they are giant space rhinos. They do this with all the guest stars really. I expect if Barclay ever shows up he'll become a god.
I appreciate the devs letting Martok become best friends with the player, a lot of their dialogues are pretty funny especially when tormenting ferengis.
I thought gowron was just trying disgrace martok by making him endure repeated losses, and knock his reputation down a few pegs (or more). Not necessarily get him killed (not that I think he would have minded of he had)
I don't understand how Klingon houses are named. How was it the House of Martok before Martok was born? What was the House of Mog caller before Worf's father was born?
It's usually assumed that the House is named after the first head. Either that or it could change generation to generation, with Worf being an example of a Klingon who opted to retain his father's name on the house as a way of respect because Mogh because of the false allegations aimed at him over the Khitomer massacre. That said, I've seen it theorised that it's named after the CURRENT head of the house, and the house of Mogh was not renamed because Worf was unmarried, and then the house was un disgrace again because Gowron lost the plot, and then after Martok became Chancellor and Worf and Jadzia married, they ended up joining House Martok, thus finally dissolving the House for all time.
Also, Klingon families tend to re-use names A LOT. For example, Mogh is presumably the son of Colonel Worf, Kirk's lawyer in ST6. And ENT establishes an ancestor of TNG's Duras, also named Duras and son of Toral. Actually, I think I read that this was done behind the scenes to address this very issue.
@@skyborne80 Pretty sure Mogh's father was the Klingon that represented Kirk and McCoy during their Kangaroo Court trial after the assassination of Gorkon. Fitting that Michael Dorn played the role. Whether that was intentional at the time or not it was nice.
JG Hertzler actually became mayor of a tiny town in upstate new york called Romulus. I lived there in 1980, so it was called that. Just north of Ithaca, NY!!!
You wanted to share more on the unexplored aspects of his life, but most of your video was explored in Cannon. I'm not saying it's bad and your fact seem to be in order, just saying that to use the word unexplored is inaccurate since most of those points were made on the show
I don't think he was ever directly referenced. He may have been one of the people indirectly mentioned supporting Gowron but they did not mention many of them by name so there's probably a very loose connection at best. It would've been cool if they had had the foresight to namedrop him before deep space nine introduced him.
@@StarMandoForge Nice. Isn't that where Worf and Kurn were operating? Would have been nice to see the IKS Rotarran mentioned, even as just a throwaway line. Then when the ship shows up in DS9 the shrewd among us would have been like "OH I KNOW THAT SHIP!"
"The bartender breaks your arm off and beats you to death with it... This is not an honorable death since technically you have died by your own hand."
Martok is a legit badass. Probably one of his best qualities is his wisdom in choosing badass friends.
We're still owed a _Car Talk with Martok_ podcast.😁
Click, Clack and special guest- a lover of gagh.
I love the episode where Martok confronts Kor and he doesn’t even remember who he is. Reminder that a forgettable act by one person can have such a large impact on another.
For Kor, it was Tuesday.
Martok was definitely a favourite character of mine, and always liked any episode he was in. Definitely my favourite Klingon.
Naw worf is badass
Especially the peaceful worf in picard

Same here. Lower Decks really knows how to make one nostalgic.
In US Navy slang, Martok is a Mustang. Enlisted who rise through the ranks to be an officer.
Since we're never getting a Worf show, how about a Martok show?
Martok and Worf are TOP TIER Klingons.
coming from ds9 martok is my favorite klingon outside worf i love to see him again he did had a cameo in lower deck as a avatar in a computor game or what ever they played
Hands down the greatest Klingon since Kahless and possibly the best character out of the best Star Trek series ever made

Fingers crossed J.G. makes another cameo on Lower Decks before it ends. That voice booming out of my TV always makes me smile.
Martok is I think the ideal Klingon warrior.
Not Worf?
@maybetoby no. Worf is something beyond a warrior. I would say he is more legendary.
@Buddy74656 gotcha
J. G. Hertzler played Martok awesomely

TAS was also the continuation of THE Five Year Mission
but it would also interesting to see what the End of a Five Year Mission would look like
@@enisra_bowman Also Star Trek Continious, with the late Grant Imahara at the helm.
Ah yes the One Eyed Giant. One of the more reasonable Klingons as far as Warriors go.

Remembering Martok just reminds me how amazing DS9 was and still is to this day.
Martok from lowborn to Soldier, to General to Chancellor a living legend

He was such a great character and I love the memes with him as well.
1:54 Kor's denial screwed Martok so badly, he couldn't even enlist as a soldier. He had to enter into service as a civilian labourer.
Martok ist my favorite Klingon next to Worf.
Is or isn't?
Honor on your House and Channel for this Video!
Martok is a real Klingon's Klingon. A Klingon among Klingons you might say.

The best thing about Star Trek is that even among sometime "antagonist" empires, many genuine heroes can be found.
Worf is my favorite Klingon but Martok is a close second

Martok's human lookalike was Roy Ritterhouse. Based on Ray Harryhausen. And _roy_ = "royal" or king 👑 (rex) .
He was the only Klingon I ever felt that truly deserved to be supreme leader
MARTOK, the People's Chancellor.
He was actually hunting Saber Bear..
not saber boar

Hot-Take: Cala-class saucer sections are re-purposed Ambassador-class saucer sections that became available when Galaxy-class took over.

Martok is my second favorite Klingon after Worf!
Martok is a real bro
The class structure of the Klingons seem familiar
I seem to remember DS9 referencing he came from humble beginnings, not i don't remember when. Maybe when talking about his wife?

I don't know why I remember Worf asking Karn about Martok. It was very brief.
From DS9 Apocalypse Rising he was mentioned to have fought in Mempa during the Civil War
