    I must express my appreciation; you have a way of making even the mundane captivating. Despite my lack of interest in boots, it speaks volumes about your storytelling abilities. Thanks again for taking the time to both educate and entertain us.

    I love bare foot shoes. They are so much more comfortable. My recent barefoot shoe is the one Jim Green makes. On other shoes that I used in the past I would remove the insole and just put a flat insole in. I have always hated arch support as they can be painful. It seemed to me the more arch support the more pain.

    Another key point on thicker soles…as folks get older and especially if they develop Type 2 Diabetes, thin soles don’t provide protective pain relief in the case of Neuropathy. I have the Neuropathy and most of the time I feel pain resembling what it felt when you have a small rock IN your boot and/or like your walking on marbles. I wear a lot of Sanuks cause they are cheap and comfortable, but the soles are very thin and cause a lot of pain when walking on small loose pebbles on pavement…

    Thank you for making this video. The depth in detail is very well done as when it comes to a quality boot the devil is in the details.
    I have a jim green bearboot , and man they were so close, soooo close to a good boot. The last use wasnt done right at the toe box...shame.
    Those boots look absolutely amazing!

      @@AstroVanTribe that would be Great!! Jim green is known for commenting and watching TH-camrs who do their boot as a review.
      I'm wearing the jim green boots right now, I use them for farming mostly goats & horses...with lots of poop. The soles cake up with dung 💩 and I have to take a stick to dig out dung because a pressure hoes doesn't get all the poop off.
      The boot you have, having the flatter sole with less treads are extremely good shit kicker for its ability to scrap off dung with grass or side of a step.
      The jim green bearfoot video(the first one) where he's walking in Africa using the boots and testing a thron had rhino dung 💩 😂 stuck in the sole haha.
      The thorn protection is 100% real, I've jumped on thorns here in texas with 1-2 inch thorns all day no problem.
      The leather is good vs scratching, fairly light weight and walking is no problem, comfortable.
      But... I've notice when quickly moving, spring, running, or for example anchor ⚓️ down your feet to hold a new horse , pushing a wagon, dragging a goat, stopping suddenly carring 50lb sack of feed.... my pink toe cuts in to the side.
      Basically actions that require your foot to spread out to max width to push, pull, drag , or anchor down it's a problem.
      Daily walking, light work, city life, hiking without heavy backpack...light activities I don't notice it.
      Because it's supposed to be a ranger boot for extream environment its lacking for what it's ment for.
      Rose anvil designed the soles pattern , so to fix it will be difficult because they have a collaboration.
      Mr.Rose isn't a farmer or outdoorsman , so he probably didn't think about the sole in outdoors situations dealing with poop, clay mud that cake up boots. He's more a city dude

      @@oscarbear7498 Chris has made many pairs of his Broadwingers for people just ike you. The obvious difference is that the Broadwingers are built to fit YOUR particular feet. Chris makes lasts based off the measurements of your feet - No store bought/production shoe comes near that. Many can wear production shoes without issue, then there's the rest of us.
      The neat thing about Chris is that you end up learning from him all about the many different kinds of people wearing his boots and what they're doing in them. On guy trekked the Himalayas in them, many are farm workers

    • @oscarbear7498
      @oscarbear7498 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AstroVanTribe it's intresting you mentioned farm workers.
      My background is farming in texas, and heavy lifting is daily. City people might not have too in offices, and terrain is concrete, flat, easy for walking. In the farm out on land its much more difficult, with more demand on feet. Weight lifters 🏋️‍♂️ all use flat shoes without exception because the foot is only stable flat. Farming is Weight lifting being tractor equipment, goats , hay, sacks of feed, wheelbarrow, etc. So the foot grows to accommodate more load with a wider more stable base & muscles. Which is the healthiest foot, especially for outdoors.
      In cross country as a teenager the coach would encourage knee surgeries, to fix blown out meniscus , or made light of foot injuries...the poor teenager where running 3-5 miles in "scientifically proven shoes" by Nike, puma, Adidas and the shoes WRECK everyone's feet, knees with thick foam heels. Crap shoes.
      Modern shoes are all very strange and the length one must go to get a zero drop boot is ridiculous.

      @@AstroVanTribeI own the jim green bearfoot boot and they messed up the pink toe area. They almost had a great boot but all they did was squish the last from the razorback( look up jim greens lasting video)
      Squishing the last just made the Metacarpal area wider to a 4E but the pink toe area tapers off to the big to way to fast.
      The boot in the video here actually has the correct last , you can tell by the same being a bit more square like.
      That being said jim green is still the best value for your money , I've researched far and wide and they have the best current Is commercial boot for the general public.
      Hopefully jim green fixes the toe box but I don't see it happening soon.
      A good alternative is to just buy the upper then have someone make the correct last, then have someone put it all together.
      More hoops to jump through but you get jim greens quality which is very good in my opinion but with a last worth a dam and not half ass like they did it.
      No shade on jim green but shoes are not to be toyed with.

    I get they will last etc. but I can have custom boots made like this for well under 500 and these are 1500+ But this has inspired me to just make my own shoes. The actual material cost is very inexpensive. Sure specialty tools are costly but these can be made by hand like they have done for 100s of years. I guess if Chris is busy then he is charging the right price.

    • @AstroVanTribe
      @AstroVanTribe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd like to see boots made just like these for $500 - I'd buy them. Making the last is the time consuming part of the process. Custom lasts for each and every pair of boots, these are made for YOUR feet. The people who go to Chris have had issues for years....

    • @youmebornfree
      @youmebornfree 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AstroVanTribe but you do have to admit it's a little ridiculous? Then to have a sole wear out every year at $150. Most people do not even spend $150 a year on shoes must less the $300+ you are spending to have a couple pieces of leather and some vibram rubber. To each his own... I will just make my own.

    • @AstroVanTribe
      @AstroVanTribe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@youmebornfree You should do that and please send me pictures of what you end up doing for yourself - Maybe post a video of the process for others to see how easy it is.... I wanted real thick bison hide boots for work. I've owned many higher end boots including having custom boots made by WESCO but none have been as robust as the Broadwingers. In the end, when you're finished building you custom boots, as awesome as they may be, we may still not be comparing apples-to-apples.
      If you enjoy the process, and can come up with a way to make custom lasts then maybe you could get into making them for others, as well...
      One thing no one ever seems to think about when considering making something themselves are the tools and materials as well as the learning curve PLUS their own time. What's your time worth? In the end you're going to have for more that $1,400 in time and materials in the pair you make for yourself, and, will they really be as well made as the Broadwingers? You seem pretty confident and I want to believe you so prove it to me and anyone else reading this. I truly want to see what you come up with....
      How long do you think it'll be...? I'd like to see these things within the next couple weeks

      @@AstroVanTribe Thanks for the challenge. I wanted a cutting board and ended up making 8 really amazing cutting boards, I wanted to make knives so I made my own belt sander and forge and made my own knives, I wanted a full length trench coat and I taught myself to sew and made one then a friend wanted one so I made him one, random side note he was single I told him this coat was going to get you a girlfriend because its so cool... jokes... but he did end up meeting a girl because of the coat It was huge black and furry hard to miss... but meanwhile he is still with her 10+ yrs later.. I fix my own cars, build all kinds of wood working projects, I have even worded with leather and hand sewn some large pouches many years ago... so you see my point if I want to learn I have the capacity and access to plenty of info to teach me. Refinements are nice but function is most important. I made things that work first and look good second. The more I make of that object the better it looks. So boot number one will work but not be as aesthetically appealing. But my boot number 3 they could be in the selling category. Biggest problem is I don't have a workshop its in storage while I sell my moms condo and help her move to another state. If I where to make some (i really really want to) it would be by hand with minimal tools. I think I still could do it but I would probably go more moccasin with soles than traditional hiking with more complex sewing requirements. Next problem is I rarely video myself. I have an internal struggle with letting myself be for public consumption. I have fought with this for 10 yrs. I do appreciate the call out and challenge and while its not completely off the table I do have a very full plate. The thing is I really need some boots my current shoes are all on their last threads. My current shoes are Altra Torins 2.5 I love the model so much I go on eBay and buy used ones this is my 6th pair. The problem is they fall apart due to my wide feet poking out from lateral movement. With this pair I 3d printed some flexible material and sowed it on the side to protect the thin fabric from ripping. Now the sole is falling apart. Altra not known for durability. I have wide feel and have always wanted to make my own shoes.. this might be the push I needed but can't promise a video but I will at lease find a way to get you a picture.

      @@youmebornfree We're similar, I make a lot of my own stuff, and do my own automotive work, as well.... I know I could make my own boots and was planning that with a pal who's just like us then found Broadwinger on IG. After talking with Chris I decided to go for it....
      I design and build things for a living so, as you know, I always factor my time into things. Once I factor my time, the materials, the learning curve, all of it, it became obvious that $900 (at the time) was worth it. After getting them I ordered a second pair and became pals with Chris where I told him he wasn't charging enough money for them :D
      I want one of them coats....! I've been single too long

    Do you go to the VA to get your health check-ups done that's where I go I am a veteran and that's what it's there for for people like me and you and by the way I like your video here about your boots I'm wondering do you put your own souls or rubber on the bottom and when I say rubber I mean the bottom part of the shoe that you walk on like a tire

      I've never tried the VA - My separation was weird, a medical that went to honorable... There was drama at the time, other vet pals have been telling me to go and see, even try for disability for PTSD because of the crazy nonsense I was subjected to. My take, until recently, has been its for those who served in combat and I didn't...

      I switched to barefoot shoes about 5 years ago. I was wearing redwings for 12 hours a day for work and had back pain all the time. I was going to a chiropractor about once every few months, Basicly when it was hurting so bad I could not work. Long story short took about a month to get used to the flat shoe but I haven’t seen the chiropractor since lol. It’s honestly crazy how much of a change it made in my life. But as stated do your research, I do believe it is a benefit to almost everybody to have a wide toe box as well as 0 heel drop (flat sole). My wife unfortunately is one of the people that the flat sole does not help. But she has a connective tissue disorder and massive joint issues because of that disability. Try it, like I said 5 years strong and not going back
