    This is great, I spent many happy summers there in the 70s and 80s. was last there in 2005 and was sad to see it so delapidated. In it's heyday it was top. My favourite funfair and of my fave places in the world. And I've lived in Brighton, the USA, and Japan.

    Some really amazing images here that really capture the moment. So many memories. Interesting that this fair had more about it than Pleasureland Southport still has to this day. Gutted

    Biggest mistake the council did was to get rid of the fun fair I loved going here with my family on the train from Bangor to have a great day out it's such a shame its gone

      It had lost popularity and didn’t have the footfall to justify keeping it running.

    Yes although Rhyl has capitulated now there were great times to be had at that fairground and a fabulous big pub nearby called the dixielander my memories there are the 70s and 80s and we usually holidayed in Towyn or Rhyl happy times.

    I used to go there as a kid :') The first 'rollercoaster' I ever went on was Nessi :) If they were to keep the park as it was or at least revamped it, we would have more tourism :)

    The old side-friction Big Dipper was my first ever coaster, other than strictly of the kiddie variety. I also first came across Jet Stream at Belle Vue. I last rode it towards the very end of its existence, & the back seat airtime had become seriously insane.

    • @psyclonesteve
      @psyclonesteve  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very Nice, I never got to ride the Big Dipper, I bet it was a real treat. I think a lot of these pictures were taken the year before Ocean Beach closed and I really enjoyed Jet Stream, it did have great airtime but riding it at Belle Vue, you'll be telling me all about The Bobs next ! :-)

    • @bodsnvimto
      @bodsnvimto 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      The Big Dipper, though never officially known as a "family" coaster, was really nothing more. Even as a virgin coaster rider, it was fun & rickety but never thrilling. My first ever proper coaster was the Cyclone at Southport. At about 7yrs old I sh*t myself on it.
      As for the Bobs at Belle Vue, I remember seeing that twisted demon of a track & being fascinated by it but I was waaaay too young to ride it. Looking back at pics & the vids right here on YT, it had TRAVER!!! written all over it.
      No, by the time I first got to go on the "big rides" at BV, long prior to Jet Stream arriving, the star attractions were the Scenic Railway & - sad though it seems now - the centrepiece, which was the Water Chute. I used to have as much fun standing up close to the glass as a spectator as I did riding it.
      Aaah, happy days...

    • @psyclonesteve
      @psyclonesteve  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although no more than a family coaster, I'm sure the Big Dipper was a nice tick to have, as for Southport Cyclone, I've rode it many times, in fact one morning I had about a dozen goes in the back seat and I was the only one in the train.. loved it ! I only visited Belle Vue once and unfortunately, although there, the Bobs was not running but I know I would have loved it , being a massive fan of Traver. The Water Chute I managed to ride several times at it's Blackpool location but like you say ... happy days ...

    What a mis-management of this great town. Heads will eventually roll for the desecration of a friendly and comfortable place to live. Council employees and councillors themselves are rotten to the core inasmuch as they have all destroyed this town for personal gains.

    That isn’t big dipper. Big dipper is at blackpool pleasure beach. So because of lying about a ride this video gets a dislike from me.

      Danielle Dewitt at what point? He's referring to the ride that was here. Why would he be lying? It wouldn't achieve anything

      Christian Moss Big dipper is at blackpool pleasurw beach, I have been on big dipper that is how I know where it is.

      Danielle Dewitt I'm fully aware where it is. I've ridden it hundreds of times. There are multiple rides with the name "big dipper" there's no reason to dislike. At what point in the video did someone mention big dipper?
