So much fun to watch. I spent three and a half seasons working a Stearman in SE WA state to earn money for college from the late '50's to '61. I never flew one as pretty and oil free as the one here. How it tugs at my heart strings.
Thanks, Mike. Good memories, I'm sure, thanks for sharing. I passed your comment here onto Andrew. Unfortunately, he's moved back East, and his Stearman will be going back out there soon. So I'll lose my hangar mate!
Many thanks for this latest video James,we have watched a great many of your trip vids and really enjoy them.We are a UK Gliding couple and just over 2 years ago we drove the 97 from Weed to Hood River (via the Dalles) on one of our USA road trips - the Hood River trip included Madras,Hood River (WAAAM),Oregon Coast Steam RR,Evergreen and the Reno Races. We drove Fairfield,Ca to Madras,Or (via Weed) on the first full day of our vacation - lovely drive and lovely museum at Madras (Erickson) rgds WT913
Thanks for the nice comment, WT. Nice to hear of your road trip up to Hood. We made an unexpected stop in at Madras on the way home, had a great time there also. Happy gliding!
Super trip for new scenery James - real bonus. Upper Klamath lake gorgeous. Again, great having such aerial company on the trip. Thanks for the ride. :)
Really enjoyed this one James. Too bad you cut across and bypassed Medford. I’m surprised you did not see any F15s out near K.Falls. I really like how your panel is laid out, someone put some thought into it. Enjoying the group flight. Wondering if the other former U2 pilot was at Beale, where I just got to do the chase car ride along, wow that was fun! Thanks again Joe in Grants Pass.
Hey Joe! Yes, the panel is super nice. We were a bit pressed for time, so were making a straight line up to Hood. I'll make it into Medford one of these days! I think we caught the F-15's napping! The two U-2 pilots have moved on from Beale in the past three years, so probably not them. Cheers!
Thanks for the great video! Wow, looking at those perfect cumulus clouds, you probably could have done that whole trip in a glider with the abundance of thermals marking the way..
Highway 97 is at the bottom of that steep ridge along the lake. Several years ago a boulder the size of a car landed on a couple driving down the road and crushed them.
I can see that you're more interested in bumping around in your own state, but I'm still awaiting Part 3 of this adventure up here in my state! Did you run all your camera batteries down getting to Sunriver?
Thanks for the comment, Gerry. He always flies from the backseat. I think that's per CG requirements for his PT-13. Better visibility back there, I believe. I've only been in the front seat though!
Hey Keith, no, but it's been close! With the Ercoupe, things generally fly back into the baggage area. I have a friend with a Luscombe, and he tells me things definitely fly out of the window with that design!
Yikes, no I do not! Maybe the owner should address that. Mine is rock solid at any speed I can get to. Might be worth someone checking it out. Thanks for the comment.
@@JamesGood I got my medical and in the process of getting my BFR after 20+ years of not flying. Your videos were instrumental in getting my desire to fly back. Thanks again!
James Good Thanks for the reply, James. That’s quite a career your friend had. Flying is one thing but count me out if they’re shouting at me! I’m enjoying watching you fly that Ercoupe. That’s a beautiful restoration of a fine plane. I’m going to watch some more today. I especially like the wing cameras just for the different angle and the sense of motion.
Andrew can correct me, but I think an aircraft is designed (weight and balance wise) with a particular 'solo' seat. The rear was chosen probably for its better visibility in flight. There's a lot of struts, wings and wires in the way in the front seat, I can attest to that!
Great videos - just please try and drop the word "cool" from nearly every second sentence. I know you're in the USA but "cool" and "awesome" need to be used in moderation I think....Aussie from Hong Kong/Thailand

K-Falls is one of my favorite airports in Oregon. The airport manager and staff there great!
Those are some beautiful birds. Thanks and look forward to more!
Great video. Pleasure to watch. Your production values are always spot on.
Thank you, I appreciate that!

Hi James . New sub here . I drive that I-5 corridor ALL THE TIME . It was fun seeing it from the air !!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the sub.

Fun....with more to come. Great seeing the area from the air..!! Never been there before.
Thanks, Ken. Yes, should be 3 or 4 more videos on this trip. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I’m sorry for the delay in this series. I will get it finished over Christmas!
That is one beautiful Stearman!! Does Andrew prefer to fly it from rear seat or a particular need when alone in airplane?
Thanks for the comment, Gerry. He always flies from the backseat. I think that's per CG requirements for his PT-13. Better visibility back there, I believe. I've only been in the front seat though!
Hey James, Another great video. Question; Have you ever lost your hat whilst flying with the cockpit open? Cheers!
Hey Keith, no, but it's been close! With the Ercoupe, things generally fly back into the baggage area. I have a friend with a Luscombe, and he tells me things definitely fly out of the window with that design!
@@JamesGood The wind caught my hat the other day. Headset went in the back, hat flew around a bit then out.
Do you ever have flutter when going above 105 mph? The Ercoupe I rent is scary in turbulence and quickly starts to get wing flutter in the yellow arc.
Yikes, no I do not! Maybe the owner should address that. Mine is rock solid at any speed I can get to. Might be worth someone checking it out. Thanks for the comment.
I work right across the runway from that Stearman’s original home
Caleb ICT where’s that?
Wichita Kansas. I’ll get a picture of the original factory
@@CalebICT aah cool, wondered if you were referring to mine in particular. Wichita is going all the way back!
James, looking good. Did you ever get your ADS-B out?
Hi David. Thanks! No, not yet, but I've bought the tailBeacon, and am in the process of getting it fitted. Hopefully soon!

Andrew has flown a U-2? You're kidding, right?
No, he just retired from flying them. He flew Harrier's off the boat, before that.
James Good
Thanks for the reply, James.

Correct, solo from the rear seat is for weight and balance much like the J-3 Cub. Visibility between the seats is probably splitting hairs!
Where' Diane?
She was at home for this one...
Stay off the Weed!
