In a way, I've been putting off playing this game precisely because I'm *so* excited to experience it. Because I know I can only experience it for the first time once. I know from past narrative adventure games how much I enjoy that kind of experience, another notable game from this past decade is Obduction from Cyan Worlds. It was extremely anticipated for me because of how impactful their earlier games, particularly Riven, were to me. I've played through it a few times, but the first time, as I actually pieced together the full story, absolutely blew my mind. I know those games aren't for everyone, but I get the overwhelming impression that Outer Wilds will hit at least as hard for me. It's like I'm waiting for a special occasion or something, but maybe that'll just be playing the game itself. Cheers for the reminder to play it!
Assassins Creed Black Flag has a really good standalone story, the stuff outside of the Animus can get boring but they are quick, but the story within is one of my favorite AC games, it’s it’s 10 year anniversary
Probably the best story game I've played recently was Spec ops The Line. In the beginning its nothing more then a gears of war style three man arm generic shooter, but slowly it turns into almost a mental fight for survival. Its a genuine masterpiece that is loved by everyone who has played it. It's a actual travesty that the game was not a success as launch. It now has a cult following and it rightfully deserves it.
2013s Bioshock Infinite definitely deserves a spot one of the best moment to moment narratives and one of the best xbox 360 games of all time. Dont forget arguably the greatest DLC of all time with Burial at sea
If it wasn't for Game Pass, I would have never really tried Yakuza/Like a Dragon or Persona series if it wasn't for it being part of the service. Always games I wanted to try but didn't want to pay for it since they're not my typical games I would go for, but now easily they're two of my favourite franchises of all time and help me get into other games I wouldn't have necessarily tried. Fantastic List!
"Back in the 90s storytelling in video games was still really primitive" The 90s ended with Planescape: Torment, famously one of the greatest stories ever told in a video game. Maybe I've misunderstood the statement but it feels like storytelling hasn't really improved since then.
A Plague Tale. Two of them have been released the second one is currently on game pass. They are absolutely amazing games and truly tell an amazing story with extremely committed voice actors and are absolute in my top 10 games. But i will say replayability isnt exactly the best because it a pretty linear story.
SOMA is an amazingly game. I’m struggling to find a game like it. The amnesia games, outlast, etc are great but the story is what made soma almost perfect for me
GTA is actually not satire at all. Satire requires comic mockery and misrepresentation of a particular subject or set of subjects in order to criticize it towards a specific, usually political end. GTA is actually what’s called a “lampoon” which is a general and direct comedic mockery of a subject matter however without the direct political implication of the satire. In other words, the mockery is democratic in that nothing is safe from it, whereas satire picks its targets willfully and carefully as a type of commentary or criticism. Another good example of a lampoon is the show South Park. SP can get away from being so shockingly offensive mostly because of this element- since no body is safe from ridicule nobody is singled out in particular. GTA has always been the same- no one is safe from the writers at R* so no one gets exceptionally upset
I recently finished Ghostwire Tokyo and I give it a solid 8 out of 10. The gameplay was great, most of the side missions were fairly unique not too "fetch questy" some of the boss fights left a bit to be desired, and having to rescue 240,000 souls is a big of a slog, but there are a set a beads you can wear that will make this task easier. I agree with you on Halo Infinite's campaign it, would have been better if members of the UNSC were captured and Master Chief had to rescue them and rebuild the UNSC, and this would introduce new characters into world of Halo so that Master Chief (and by extension the player) had new people to interact with. I absolutely loved the Witcher 3 it was amazing, I played it during the pandemic on game pass, then bought the game of the year edition and played it again! RDR2's story was amazing, and so many other games of the last decade that I can't even think of, Arkham Knight just came to mind, that was in 2015 wasn't it?
I love the new style of videos and the end part is great I found y’all from halo vids but these have kept me around. Always a insta click when I see new uploads
I'm late to the party but I rather like the podcast style segment y'all have at the end it's fun hearing you both just kind of casually talk about gaming stuff.
Completely agree with persona. I saw my cousin watching a stream of some guy play it, and the art style got me interested. I had some money so i decided to buy it. 350 hours later and the platinum for P5R also with 300+ hours. Easily in my top 3 games of all time
Had an idea for a halo challenge that could be interesting made me think of yall. Seeing how far you can backtrack in halo games from like the end of a mission are you able to just get back to the start area or are there obstacles or changes
Disco Elysium feels like reading a well-written book featuring yourself as a protagonist rather than playing a video game because of its unique narrative structure. It's one of those games you loved so much but can't easily recommend it to your friends

the GTA segment was a bit strange, like you’re absolutely right about its tone and depiction but you said it in a way that you think it went over people’s heads when really since day one it was praised for its take on social commentary and satire. like thats been a huge part of the series since day one
I appreciate your take on Starfield. Its a flawed game and i understand the criticism but i put in well over 200 hours and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it
For me the best RPG game in the 2010s is Dragon Quest XI definitive edition . The only thing I knew before playing how people say it brought early nostalgic memories of playing video games . And this was 100 percent true . And some fun memories of being a Dragon ball fan .
The Plague Tale games have a geeat narrative. Ghost of Tsushima, the Dark Pictures games. The Jedi games. And Black Flag is the best Assassin's Creed imo.
The way you guys went over god of war is criminal considering one of the guys hasn’t even looked at it. Enough to make grown men cry not once, but twice in four years that’s crazy
One of the best if not THE best indie games: Fear & Hunger + Fear & Hunger 2. just look up a video about it. it looks simple but it's a very complex story and narrative with a lot of choices that change your experience also very challenging
THANK YOU for including Starfield. Yes, we all know the game has its issues. (Honestly what game doesnt these days, especially during its first year or so 🙄) But, ive been really enjoying the stories it tells and choices one needs to make. (Its still a bethesda single player game; choices really only matter as part of dialogue/ relationships; but still i always feel so invested)
Dude, you absolutely have to play Witcher 3. No game has ever immersed me as well as Witcher. If you can, listen to or read the books first. That’s how I did it, it was a happy accident but I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
Bloodborne can also be on this list. Yeah you have to search to get more lore like in all souls game but the lore itself is probablement one of the best ive ever seen
I’ll have to try God of War… I’ve never had a PlayStation, but I see it’s on steam! I loved Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. One of my favourite games. It’s another great story and seems similar.

Too bad you didn’t include alien isolation. I personally found it had a great story since it was simple yet had nice intricate details.
A Plague Tale. Two of them have been released the second one is currently on game pass. They are absolutely amazing games and truly tell an amazing story with extremely committed voice actors and are absolute in my top 10 games. Ghost wire was so good, I loved it and I hope it continues as a franchise. Such a fun game.
SOMA has to be a "best story" discussion every time.
SOMA is an amazingly game. I’m struggling to find a game like it. The amnesia games, outlast, etc are great but the story is what made soma almost perfect for me
For halo infinite, the interesting story happened off screen and before the campaign even started…
I wish I would have seen the Plague tale series on here, both had absolutely amazing stories and gameplay and oh wth stray was also fiire!!

Starfield was hyped to the point it needed to be more than Bethesda could even deliver.
Quantum break. Jedi fallen order. Late shift? Ryse son of Rome. Dying light. Dead rising 3. Hogwarts legacy.
With AC I agree most stories feel like an AI wrote them. That said the Ezio trilogy is amazing story wise. Black Flag is also good.
