Well done. Thank you for being you. Models need to be protected against Photographers like this and it has always annoyed me, that models feel bound to give nothing but a glowing references for the photographer, after a shoot. Even if they have been inappropriate. You actions, and advice, are perfect, as usual, and thank you for taking the time to publish this video. X

So sorry to hear that. A model and a photographer typically work together to create some form of art (more or less). So there have to be a lot of trust and willing to work together. As you are in such a collaborate mood, its way more difficult to break this situation by saying "no" and draw lines in a more formal tone. The photographer/pervert knew this and he abused the situation. Imagine someone in the cashier line asked you the same thing. It would be very easy for you to say no and call the police.

Thanks for sharing this story. It does make me sad that a very small percentage of shoots end up bad like this but that small percent is still too much.

I am so sorry you had to experience this! It makes me so angry when I hear about these type of scenario is, it is simply vile and inexcusable. Coincidentally, only the other week did I read a warning a model posted on one of the model safety sites about a photographer asking prior to the shoot if he may release himself on the shoot (his words) - I wonder if it is the same person or just a well timed coincidence. :(

Thank you for how open you are about dangers like this...including keeping in the bit of you having to answer the door. As you've stated, you're in a 'safer' position than most, and it was still obvious how this had NOT made *you* feel safe in the least...which hopefully will help someone else not feel as bad about being 'weak' for not being more confrontational in a similar situation. The way you addressed the modeling community as a whole, and gave yourself as a bad reference in the past, and how you both moved forward, AND kept yourself safe, was magnificent, IMO.

Well done. His behaviour has to be reported to the police - not just Purpleport.
Please don't ever 'be fair' to perverts like this. I am so sorry that you were subjected to such a vile situation and you, and any other model, has every right to eject the photographer and still receive full pay. His manipulation of respective financial positions makes him all the more despicable.
Blood boiling..... maybe someone can create an app to be used by models to get out of tricky situations.

I've been trying to wrap my head around the thought process of individuals like this that do things like this and I simply can't. I cannot understand the psychology of someone that either think about doing it and come to the conclusion that it's ok, or that they don't even bother think about it at all and just do it because the fact that it's morally abhorrent doesn't even occur to them. I really don't know which is worse. Especially taking into consideration the fact that he has done this and tried this exact thing before by his own admission, and regardless of the instances where the model has understandably declined or refused it's not changed his mind about whether doing it is wrong or not. Not to mention that he was clearly there just to get his rocks off, and there are people that offer those services if that's what he's after. If that's what he wants then he should hire a sex worker who offers that and there would be nothing wrong with whatsoever, but hiring a nude model who's only consented to shoot photos with you and then trying to coerce them using the environment and the front of a photo to try and push your sexual agenda on them is predatory behaviour, simply put. I agree that the likelihood is that some models, particularly new and young models, would be too frightened to say no and so agree to it out of fear, and that is a grotesquely horrifying thought. Particularly the aspect that you touched upon; the fear of asking him to leave perhaps being confrontational and escalating the situation as you don't know what they're like or how they're going to react to you being assertive or asking them to leave. I can only imagine how terrifying it must be and I'm so angry and so sorry. You remained calm, focussed and level-headed and dealt with the situation superbly I think, even if you wish that you'd maybe done things differently in hindsight, so really well done. I think that you also did the right thing after the shoot by contacting the other models he said he was due to shoot with and then reporting him after you'd left the location. I really, really hope that nothing of the sort happens again to you or anyone else!

Thank you! I honestly can't fathom why they think it's worth the risk to try to change the limits of a shoot *during* the shoot, let alone when they're trying to do something that is never acceptable at a photoshoot. So, so weird. And so, so creepy.

Hate that the story exists, but thank you for sitting down and going through this properly and really trying to put it into words a child could understand, because honestly, I think there's a few photographers out there (Judging by all the posts I read) that genuinely, do not seem to understand what and what isn't acceptable on a shoot.
No I don't understand why either, but they are out there. Getting to shoot every day with models who don't speak up, for fear of bad references.
There is one area that you cover I find interesting, which obviously comes up a lot on Purpleport and the like, the difference between direct sales and 'art' work and how many Photographers seem to struggle with the idea that one is "good and noble" and the other is smut. It's so weird! (Personally the anology I think of with models who also do OF and the like is a cobbler who also cuts keys...they are just different income streams and neither has less validity, the implication otherwise always smacks of pretentiousness, particularly that to the wider world of net curtain twitchers, any time a photographer points a camera at an attractive woman, it's P**n. Point being, it's back to the original subject of GWC who can't tell the difference between a model and an escort and the 'smut' snobbery (and if I'm really honest, a fair bit seems to come from other models as well as photographers) doesn't help that. Protection starts when we all understand boundaries.

This is so disturbing and unreal! I always have a female assistant with me to make sure that the model feels at ease, no matter if I shoot in the studio or on location. These kind of people remind me of the Old men with Camera category. They have no actual skill set and are only interested in seeing someone naked.

What a horrible situation, sorry that you had that experience...I agree references are soo important, for both models and photographers. Ok there's been no physical damage (this time) but it must have some negative effect on a mental(etc) level, completely inappropriate behaviour from this photographer. I'm glad PP threw him off the site, sadly there will always be a few bad apples that are rotten to the core....it means we always need to be vigilant to weed these cretins out and support each other. Thanks for sharing.

Not all are thank you very much! I am a photographer and I know many others that, to the best of my knowledge, treat models with the utmost respect. It fills me with rage when something like this happens as it makes practising my craft so much more difficult when absolute cretins like the one Ariel talks about here, unforgivably cross those boundaries of trust and plain common decency just to pander to their disgusting needs. Like the hooligan football "fan" whose actions make both their club and other innocent law-abiding fans suffer, these scumbags make it so much harder for honest photographers and models to form good working relationships that profit us both. Please do not tar us all with the same brush... SOME photographers are the worst! Thank you

It's extraordinary that a man would presume to do this. It's abusive and you shouldn't have to deal with this. Would he ask a female Waitrose delivery driver if he could masturbate while she brings in the food. It's not right and he should be stopped before he does it with someone else. Hopefully you have let all your contacts know who he is.

I as well got at least 2 photographs removed for inappropriate behavior from pp and mk. However I always feel pressured to leave glowing reviews... because if I leave a bad one, he ll do the same. What can I do against that? Nothing really. Just my word against his. Also he has the photos, and probably some bad ones as well, which he can just publish over and over just to harm me. This happened and I don't really know how to go about this "honest reviews " situation. Yes there are reviews, but there are no real laws, regulations or protection for such cases, is there?

    • @ArielsTwilightYears
      @ArielsTwilightYears  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the best thing we can do is negative reference *and* report the offending photographer. Because if they're removed from the site, they won't be able to retaliate with a negative reference. Additionally, I believe that Purpleport don't allow people to leave a negative reference in retaliation for being left a negative themselves. But in the end, I think models need to prioritise the safety of the model who's booked after them, over worry about their own reputations/retaliatory negative references. It's really scary, but the safety of models is more important than just about anything else in this industry, IMO.

  • @tcmag62

How utterly appalling! Thank God you have successfully shut down this ghastly specimen. I have to say, what I found absolutely incredulous was the attitude of photographers condemning models for making their own content. Can they really believe that people DON'T masturbate to obviously sexual material, including their content? More likely this is a passive aggressive way of trying to shame models into returning to the less profitable shoots with them.

    • @ArielsTwilightYears
