The whole not regretting your choices and just going forward really gets me with Jhope saying it...idk if you know already but there was a point before debut where Jhope almost left BTS! (it was really hard for them as trainees as you know) Jungkook even cried with him when he said he was going to leave...but Namjoon said that without Jhope BTS would never make it and convinced him to stay and persist....thats why that "life not as Jhope but as Jung Hoseok passes by" really hits you, cuz he almost never became Jhope! But he made his choice and stuck to it not matter what, and that got him here!

Suga and RM have that technical background that I totally respect. They're awesome. But J-Hope is my bias because he's the most on-point dancer, he can sing, and he sounds raw and hype as hell with his rapping vocals. I really dig that raspy vocal quality he uses in verses, he's got tons of presence, combined with a flow that always plays around with the beat. I'm still relatively new to BTS (been almost a year), but the Mic Drop Remix solidified J-Hope for me when I heard it. In my opinion he's the most solid rapper on that track, with that dynamic and intense flow. Plus...he's got an unwavering positivity about him in general. I think the world could use more of that, especially now.

I just spent like 5 hours going through most of your videos and I gotta say, it was really fun watching your journey from curious reactors to people who genuinely try to dig into the meanings of their music and performances! 14:12 the dancing in the video was completely improvised by jhope, there was no choreo for this and you can see that in the behind the scenes on bangtantv 11:30 i think that might be him looking back at when he first started dancing and the point of it all. bts get accused of plagarism and copying other artists’ work, what if he was asking himself if he was being true to who he was and what he wanted or if he was just following in the footsteps of some other korean dancer or idol and being their ‘ghost’. OR following the ‘ghosts’ of the past and not being original with his own work. i think in that specific part of the song he questions his own originality and what he wants, he addresses his insecurities in his work and looks back on what he wanted when he was still a child and what he’s become now. i don’t know anything about the visual symbolism in that part of the mv but it just looks like his self reflection ALSO the ‘7 years of anguish / oppressions over’ line could be him saying that bts and himself have worked incredibly hard to be where they are and should be allowed to relish in their success (which ties in with the title of the song itself) BUT they still manage to stay humble about it. i think this is jhope expressing not only his success but bts’ success as a group who was constantly (and still is) ridiculed for their dreams

Has anybody mentioned how beautiful Jung Hoseok's silhouette is in the beginning. His head looked perfect and his smiles were so charming throughout the whole mv. i read a more thorough translation of the lyrics (i really encourage you to do this for all of bts’ songs, as i feel that bighit’s english captions don’t always capture the meaning of the original lyrics quite as well!). i interpreted ego as hoseok trying to let go of the shadows that have been with him since the start of bts, to move forward and focus on the present. before debut, he temporarily left the group but decided to come back. when he speaks of him dancing as chasing ghosts, he may be speaking of what would have happened had he permanently left, the regrets he would have had and how he would have been left chasing an intangible, unrealistic dream. he could also be referring to the ‘ghosts of the past’ haunting him in the present. but he now wants to rid himself of these past thoughts, to not think about the ‘what ifs’ and how difficult the path to success was (and may continue to be). he simply wants to focus on enjoying life in the present, free from all the dark thoughts that were weighing him down. in terms of the sound, i really love how he masks such dark, reflective lyrics with an upbeat song that makes you want to get up and dance! it’s very on brand (dance king & mood-maker!) and reflects the message he’s trying to project. i also love how he twists ‘ego’, a word that commonly denotes narcissism and self-obsession, into something positive, i.e. ‘i’m going to let go of these dark thoughts to focus on myself and make sure that i’m happy in the present.’ this is such a fitting outro for the album, especially when you compare it to yoongi’s interlude! it demonstrates that bts are trying to let go of the shadows and the darkness that threaten to consume them and instead, focus on being happy in the present moment. yoongi summarised the entire album nicely in a recent interview: “you must face [your] inner shadows, but resist becoming submerged into its depth... face it and move forward.”

I’m not sure if you’ve seen/heard it yet (I didn’t see a reaction for any of it yet so I’m assuming no) but if you loved Ego you gotta check out Hope World (J-Hope’s Mixtape), the whole thing has a very similar vibe to it. The fandom has started joking that Hobi may as well be his own genre of music because he has such a unique flavor to his style.

2. Jhope`s pajamas say " never die hospital" in English, "Not gonna die" in Korean,

On the fence, there are two chicken.

5. The letters on the fence next to the Hopes record says the only one, the only you, which is Army
6. All the signs at the end deliver the messages like move straight to the future, no U turn, and trust yourself, Army.
The whole not regretting your choices and just going forward really gets me with Jhope saying it...idk if you know already but there was a point before debut where Jhope almost left BTS! (it was really hard for them as trainees as you know) Jungkook even cried with him when he said he was going to leave...but Namjoon said that without Jhope BTS would never make it and convinced him to stay and persist....thats why that "life not as Jhope but as Jung Hoseok passes by" really hits you, cuz he almost never became Jhope! But he made his choice and stuck to it not matter what, and that got him here!
JHope does come with that flavor. Fate brought him here, and he’s willing to trust and believe in himself, that’s his ego. He’s taken his struggles and learned to say I don’t care, move ahead.

Suga and RM have that technical background that I totally respect. They're awesome. But J-Hope is my bias because he's the most on-point dancer, he can sing, and he sounds raw and hype as hell with his rapping vocals. I really dig that raspy vocal quality he uses in verses, he's got tons of presence, combined with a flow that always plays around with the beat. I'm still relatively new to BTS (been almost a year), but the Mic Drop Remix solidified J-Hope for me when I heard it. In my opinion he's the most solid rapper on that track, with that dynamic and intense flow. Plus...he's got an unwavering positivity about him in general. I think the world could use more of that, especially now.
I just love the way he’s combined such deep lyrics with such a fun beat. Only hobi can make you happy & reflect like this at the same time!

This song, from the intro to the outro, not only incorporates elements of BTS’ past, and all things Hope, but it also follows the formula of a classic House mix. We have previous BTS cover albums+mvs, Hope World & Chicken Noodle Soup (plus two chickens on the wall), J's Tailor (to me it's like The Kingsman), Jhope driving a red car with BTS debut date as the police as license plate, the Gods, the childhood photos, ARMY and the logo, and a quote on the chicken wall with smile emoticon, and an army even said a burnt building was on the background.

I just spent like 5 hours going through most of your videos and I gotta say, it was really fun watching your journey from curious reactors to people who genuinely try to dig into the meanings of their music and performances! I find it really really cool how your reactions seem really genuine-- you just really seem to love their stuff that much. I love how enthusiastic you all are, and it's really cute to see Nico fanboying over Hobi (he's one of my 2 biases) and how he and Adam sort of introduce Blaze to some of the ones they've already watched. 11:30 i think that might be him looking back at when he first started dancing and the point of it all. bts get accused of plagarism and copying other artists’ work, what if he was asking himself if he was being true to who he was and what he wanted or if he was just following in the footsteps of some other korean dancer or idol and being their ‘ghost’. OR following the ‘ghosts’ of the past and not being original with his own work. i think in that specific part of the song he questions his own originality and what he wants, he addresses his insecurities in his work and looks back on what he wanted when he was still a child and what he’s become now. i don’t know anything about the visual symbolism in that part of the mv but it just looks like his self reflection
ALSO the ‘7 years of anguish / oppressions over’ line could be him saying that bts and himself have worked incredibly hard to be where they are and should be allowed to relish in their success (which ties in with the title of the song itself) BUT they still manage to stay humble about it. i think this is jhope expressing not only his success but bts’ success as a group who was constantly (and still is) ridiculed for their dreams

i read a more thorough translation of the lyrics (i really encourage you to do this for all of bts’ songs, as i feel that bighit’s english captions don’t always capture the meaning of the original lyrics quite as well!). i interpreted ego as hoseok trying to let go of the shadows that have been with him since the start of bts, to move forward and focus on the present. before debut, he temporarily left the group but decided to come back. when he speaks of him dancing as chasing ghosts, he may be speaking of what would have happened had he permanently left, the regrets he would have had and how he would have been left chasing an intangible, unrealistic dream. he could also be referring to the ‘ghosts of the past’ haunting him in the present. but he now wants to rid himself of these past thoughts, to not think about the ‘what ifs’ and how difficult the path to success was (and may continue to be). he simply wants to focus on enjoying life in the present, free from all the dark thoughts that were weighing him down. in terms of the sound, i really love how he masks such dark, reflective lyrics with an upbeat song that makes you want to get up and dance! it’s very on brand (dance king & mood-maker!) and reflects the message he’s trying to project. i also love how he twists ‘ego’, a word that commonly denotes narcissism and self-obsession, into something positive, i.e. ‘i’m going to let go of these dark thoughts to focus on myself and make sure that i’m happy in the present.’ this is such a fitting outro for the album, especially when you compare it to yoongi’s interlude! it demonstrates that bts are trying to let go of the shadows and the darkness that threaten to consume them and instead, focus on being happy in the present moment. yoongi summarised the entire album nicely in a recent interview: “you must face [your] inner shadows, but resist becoming submerged into its depth... face it and move forward.”
