    A turn is a turn. You can't call it a half.

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this context half turns are individual move uses from you or the opponent and full turns when both players get a move. This is important for timing route 3 where you can lose a full turn by taking damage from Caterpie and then save a red bar level up, or you can lose a half turn on Rattata to its Quick Attack.

    • @TiKevin83

      Kenn toSheneKyn that's a gen 1 miss, there are several mentioned throughout the run. All moves in gen 1 have an additional 1 in 256 chance to miss due to a bug with the accuracy check. We exploit this bug because it is allowed as part of the "glitchless" category. The bug can be avoided by skipping the accuracy check with x accuracy or Swift

    • @TiKevin83

      SuperTtKiller you want to talk from the bottom to buffer the A press to talk and not bonk on the trainer, also a turn frame only happens the first time you turn in a room. The path is the same number of tiles as talking from the left to get to Surge and back to the exit.

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually not because getting on the bike after flying is slower than when we do it after leaving a building. So where biking to the fly house is faster than walking, it's faster to walk this distance to the water.

  • @Saki630
    @Saki630 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    04:15 are you kidding me? You spent how long? 2 seconds, 1 second per choice to use Growl over Thundershock? How can this be soooo hard?

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not sure if you're joking, but finding growl gen 1 miss is a 1 in 256 chance, and Eevee also needs to choose Tackle on that frame, so the first bit of setup is 1 in 512. Then Eevee only has a 1 in 10 chance of getting a critical hit. Then you have to do it again on the 2nd turn. So I had to take several hours searching for a series of inputs leading up to the fight which caused the 1 in 5,000x2, that is 1 in 25 million RNG to happen without much delay.

    • @Saki630
      @Saki630 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I retract my statement then. I was not aware that even at the very beginning of the game you had to move and press certain keys in order for this battle to just go the way you wanted. I thought you would just die normally in quick fashion and move on without delay.

    @HanpfDampf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sry that i am commentating as i just saw the first minutes of the video. But already questions came to my mind. Like how does the "avoid encounters" work with pressing A? Also how do you manipulate getting the nido you want, and how do you manipulate getting the pidgeotto. Or did you restart a few times to get this?

    • @HanpfDampf
      @HanpfDampf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok i guess in a TAS you just say to the game "give me this encounter". But still, how does this pressing A to avoid encounters work. And are glitchless runners already use this?

    • @HanpfDampf
      @HanpfDampf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also it is so interesting how big the gap is between very good luck (gunners wr) and perfect luck (TAS). About 18 minutes seem ridioulus.
      I mean a TAS is just a speedrun with perfect luck/RNG is it? ...

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In order to manipulate RNG in a human run, you have to hard reset the console and do a short series of exact inputs to get the exact RNG you need. Humans aren't consistent enough to manip for a long time or in certain situations. The hard reset loses 20 seconds.
      TAS always knows the exact state of the RNG at any moment because we can look at the memory using tools and see where the RNG is. Hence "Tool Assisted Speedrun." So not only can we manipulate the nido, moon, and forest without a hard reset, we can manipulate everything else, like battle RNG for critting everywhere we need. And because we can manipulate everything, the route is completely different than anything you can do in RTA. Combined this allows the TAS to save 17:17 on current world record (more if you time the TAS like RTA is timed, TAS times from power on of the console).

  • @miolpurst7779
    @miolpurst7779 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why does timing start on game startup and not on "new game" like in RTA runs

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a general standard for TASes, primarily because we begin to influence RNG before new game even starts

    • @miolpurst7779
      @miolpurst7779 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TiKevin83 Speedruns That makes sense. I was also kinda confused because red, blue. and yellow NSC also manip trainer ID before the new game is selected in RTA, but again timing starts on new game. I realize it is completely arbitrary where you start the timer, and that it really doesn't matter. Just was curious if there was a reason.
      Amazing run by the way. Super interesting. Happy to finally find a really good TAS of gen 1 in English.

  • @sjoerdglaser2794
    @sjoerdglaser2794 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was very cool! You talk a lot about 1/60 inputs, what does that mean?

    • @TiKevin83
      @TiKevin83  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The original gameboy runs at 59.7275fps which we round to 60 frames per second for simplicity. Some inputs have very large windows to get the same RNG, such as the 17 frame walk cycle, but other things like selecting a move in battle will produce different RNG on every single frame.

    • @TiKevin83
