- Just thought I’d share with you my 68’ plexi build I modded. Has all the good stuff, Mojo and NOS mustards, laydown Mercury trannies, 68’ low filtering, NOS Phillips preamp tubes. Stock plexi circuit is left in tack and looks completely stock from the front. Cab is an original 78’ 1960A with original 25 watt blackbacks.
Input 1 Lo = Stock 68’ Plexi (2 stages)
Input 1 Hi = Crunch (3 stages)
Input 2 Lo = low output Lead (4 stages)
Input 2 Hi = high output Lead (4 stages)

Sounds badass, Brent. Plexi and Modded Plexi's, are my all time favorite amps. Friedman and Metropoulos make the best modded plexi amps imho. George Metropoulos just came out with the Metroplex Version 2. I bought a Metropoulos DVL-1 amphead, about 2 years ago, that still blows me away. George, originally, made his DVL-1 Amphead for William Duvall with Alice In Chains. Once regular guitar players heard it, they fell in love with it, and also wanted one, so George started making them available to the general public. Also, If you haven't already checked one out, check out the New Friedman 20 watt tube Jake E. Lee (JEL) amphead, in beautiful red tolex. They are amazing, and I love mine. My favorite types of speakers to play a Plexi or Modded Plexi Amp through are UK Made Celestion Greenbacks. What is yours?
Same, Greenbacks for me too. The Marshall cab in this vid has ordinal 25 watt blackbacks, incredible speaker also.
Have mercy! Been waitin' for the bus all day😎
That saturated channel was bonkers good 😮
Awesome Tone!!!
Thanks a lot!
Out standing ! I want 1
Sounded great man. Cannot wait to hear it in person. 🤘🏻
Nice
About 20 years ago, I had the chance to buy a Marshall full stack in purple tolex. I think it was some reissue; the amp was a classic 60s-type Plexi. It was only 2 grand, and I could have forced myself to tell my landlord to bugger off til next month and afford to get it. Here's where I'm still kicking myself in the nuts to this day...I turned it down after noticing it didn't have much gain on its own at volumes which don't rip your epidermis off and plaster it to the wall, and the hippies working there explained that I'd need a distortion pedal, and I thought that was "lame" for some reason. Therrrre's, my "young and stupid" sign...
That crunch channel has got the stuff 🤟. Well done
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hi, i'm considering building a plexi kit, i have a question about the mercury transformers. There seems to be about 12 or so different iterations / specs on their website, how did you chose the transformers you used? I want to make mine a 68 spec as my dad has an original 68 plexi that sounds incredible, thanks, Phil.
OT is a O100JT
PT is a M3-66P-M
@@BPToneReview Thanks, any insight on how / why you chose those?
Sounds great, you attenuating with something?
Thanks Justin! No, no need, has a great MV on the front.
are the channels switchable and is it for sale? ;-)
Not for sale :) and not the channels are not switchable. Just old school channels via input.
nice video
Thanks
Maaannn🤤
What Mods were done?
Added two gain stages, each accessible via front inputs, Jose diode mode and pull boost/bright. Voiced the preamp to my liking.
why doesnt anyone build ab amp like this? I mean, make it switchable and it leaves all other in the shadow...
While not the same circuit and layout, Friedman BE100 Deluxe has a Plexi channel, 3 gain stage BE channel and 4 gain stage HBE channel. Great amp!
