UNTHINKABLE | Mount Kun Expedition | A Ladakh Climbing Documentary

- This is my journey to the top of Mount Kun in Suru Valley of Kargil, Ladakh in India. Being a mountaineer, climbing a seven-thousand-meter peak was always my dream. This video takes you through the journey of 12 mountaineers with a common goal of reaching the top of Mount Kun, one of the most technical mountain climbs in India.
We climbed this beautiful mountain in the months of Aug-Sep, considered to be ideal for climbing in this region of Ladakh. It is advised to get the climbing permissions done in time as we struggled at few check posts. The temperatures can go as low as -35 degrees during this climb and proper clothing is highly recommended. Lack of trees in the region can impact the oxygen requirements and it is important to acclimatize well during the climb.
A 900-meter wall (70 degree in gradient) between camp 1 to camp 2 could well be your toughest climb on this mountain. However, reaching camp 2 does not guarantee success. One has to climb another ice wall after summit camp before reaching the shoulder of the mountain and eventually summit.

Travel Tips:
Stay: Kargil has some affordable stays. We stayed in City Guest House which has decent rooms, and the owner is very helpful as well.
Camera: Try to carry as minimum as possible as this is a very challenging high mountain climb and adding extra weight can cause problems.
Clothing: Layer up on high altitudes and carry good quality down jacket and down pant for mountaineering. Should have temperature rating of -20 or below.
Skincare: Apply sunscreen at all times when exposed to sun. Should be at least 50 SPF.
Eyecare: Carrying a sunglass is mandatory that should cover entire eyes.
Health: Always stay hydrated and acclimatize well.
Environment: Keep the mountains clean. 😉

Congratulations for your wee power sir ji 👍👏👏👏
Many many thanks
Congratulations Rahul,
You have described the whole journey in very beautiful words, and the videography photography, music done is amazing. After many years, I saw such a well described video. Seeing Rope and Jumar reminded me of Bhagirathi 2, which I was summited last month.
I'm just curious about what camera you used for this trip and how you managed until the summit? My name is Rohan, and I live in Navi Mumbai. If you are trekking in the Himalayas every year, then our Mumbai trekking group would love to meet you. And my friends will be more happy to know that you are from Uttarakhand.
Thanks so much Rohan. Great to talk to you here. I shot whole video with GoPro hero 7 black and kept 2 spare batteries along with a power bank of 20000 mah for the trip.
And congratulations on Bhagirathi. 🙏🙏❤️
@@hungryrucksack Thank you Rahul.
GoPro 7 black, ok, in the video you said you are carrying too much weight and your camera playing a role in it, so, I thought you were carrying DSLR. I used GoPro 7 black for Annapurna circuit. It's really a nice camera.
Came here after spotting your satopanth video, a subscriber now. Awaiting many more such memories for you to capture and share.
Thanks again. Means a lot😇❤️

@@hungryrucksack 1080/60 ?
Thousand's of Indians including me go to Nepal to trek as the facilities are top notch and cheap. Till 22:00 in this video, seems like an easy trekkable route which should be promoted by the authorities Given its two days from the road head..all it needs is couple of dhabas every 5 kms till this place and staying facilities. If this were Nepal, they would have setup tea houses till this place and promoted this as Nun and Kun Advanced Base Camp trek..
This does not have a lot of demand as opposed to visiting the highest mountain on earth. However, can be visited with some preparation on own.
Amazing 😍
Thanks❤️
Congratulations 🎉
Thanks🙏
