You’re so right, Yvonne! It’s very puzzling how she ended up with humans (I don’t want to imagine what became of her mother). Considering she’s old enough to know she’s a monkey and her mother taught her to fear humans, I can’t fathom how those people were able to interact with her as a “pet”. I wonder if she was just so weak from hunger and dehydration she couldn’t fight them off and so she was passive - but as she slowly gained some strength she was able to protest against them? Or maybe she trusted just one person but not any others, and/or maybe the children began teasing her and, being a wild animal, she fought back and everything escalated, and so she ended up in a cage where she couldn’t escape them? But yes, her assertiveness definitely worked in her favour. I tremble to consider what would’ve happened to her without VMF’s presence, resources, and determination ❤
Sassafras is the perfect poster child to demonstrate that monkeys are absolutely not pets! Bless her, she has the most indignant expressions I’ve ever seen on a monkey. She wants to speak to a manager this instant! “Don’t you peasants know who I am?!”
I am beyond relieved and grateful that this tormented little being ultimately landed in the compassionate and capable hands of VMF. Seeing her cuddling with Dave The Vervet Whisperer settled my nerves, as I was able to see she wasn’t too far “gone”.

This channel, these people, are a breath of fresh air. Truly amazing. And those horrid monkey channels from SE Asia make it seem like it's a normal thing to have one of these animals as a pet. People don't do the five minutes of research it takes to realize these animals aren't even close to pets, but the reality seems to be that, with literally almost all information in the world at our fingertips, people are lazier than ever.
Welcome aboard. They are paired with a foster mom before being released in a troop with their new mom. They are still quite young (around 6 weeks old or so) when this is done and it's the mom and others in the troop that will teach it how to live in the wild. Keep watching. You will be amazed at how all of this is done. Always brings tears of happiness when they get their new mom and can go live a monkey's life like they should.

They could care less about the proper care or the health of them and most know how monkeys end up being when nearly grown. They don't care because they will dump them someplace and get a new baby to exploit. All of those channels give false impressions about pet monkeys to people. When those people decide to get a monkey and they see a video or read about them being bad pets, they don't believe it. Another thing is people often think if they raise a wild animal from a baby it will not act like a wild animal when it is grown. Then there's the people that think, well if you didn't do this or didn't do that, the monkey wouldn't have attacked you. Idk, there's people that just refuse to believe what people who are responsible pet monkey owners that understand monkey behavior say or what someone that's been attacked by a pet monkey says.

Years ago they had a baby so terrified that she was hiding her face in a corner in silence. She was very traumatized. When she improved and was put in the shelter to find a new mom the first mom that wanted her was inexperienced and sat on her as the baby was having none of it. It took longer than usual but she eventually bonded with a more experienced mom. It was wonderful.
It’s heartbreaking to see such a tiny innocent monkey be so fearful and on edge. I hate to think of what she may have been through in her short little life. Thank you VMF for helping her. She needs to be with her own kind to relax and not be fearful anymore.

WOW...those faces, those eyes! That little thing looked possessed. Shelby was being dominated by her...LOL... but she seemed to like Dave OK. Nothing like throwing Shelby straight into the fire on her first rescue....haha. The girls did a fabulous job with her though. She looked more relaxed after the first couple hours and better on day 2. Once in Disney Land she seemed fine but definitely has an unhappy facial expression. So sad to think what she might have gone through losing her mum and troop. Quite the challenge for the team but as usual they performed great.

I don't think monkeys like to be stared at and that might be why Sassafras challenged the young lady that went with Dave to pick her up. Nice to see her doing better and getting along with the other babies. Thanks for this video.❤
When you see the monkeys look like they might be trying to “mount” another monkey it’s not a sexual gesture.. it’s almost there way of saying hi to one another or as if giving a high five, it’s a positive gesture of friendship towards each other
That poor baby Sassafrass...she looked absolutely terrified when picked up to bring back. Her entire face showed it. It brought tears to my eyes to see such a tiny being in that traumatic emotional state. I can't imagine how she was processing it all, being abruptly extracted from a familiar enviroment, (albeit an obviously tumultuous one as she became more aware of her situation). How wonderful to see her romping with the other babies on her way to a life she was intended to have. So grateful for the VMF !!! ☺❤🐒
And the mother's faces can remain a bright pink. -@@JaynieCollins- good question. My thoughts on their faces' color are due to air temperatures, humidity, & activity, such as playing in the dirt. I hope this heat wave doesn’t last much longer. Little ones hopping on eachother with play-faces is such a happy sight.💗💗💗 I thought Perry’s twerking is an everyday part of monkey vocab, meaning several things ranging from “How do you do?” to “I’m sorry”. 🤷🏻♀️

Why is little girl walking like she’s drugged? This was my first video of y’all’s so I don’t know her story. Unfortunately all I’ve ever seen was the videos of the poor babies being abused and drugged. And they make you suspect all of them to be that way. I wanted to find one that actually care and love them instead of abusing them. And then I’m noticing a red bracelet one of the ladies so I’m praying that’s just a coincidence. They are so adorable!
That look on her little face, her lips and the geckering. She’s definitely scared, her whole world has been turned upside down. And like you said, I don’t want to know what she was exposed to and why she isn’t with her mum. But I do know that with the love and support she will get from the VMF and her adoptive mum, that she will thrive. Even if it takes a bit longer. Like someone else previously stated, her little faces are cute but also sad at the same time. Lots of Love ❤
Sounds like the concept for Disneyland should include utilizing a similar system to American produce sections used in our stores. They mist water out of small tubes and with a fan or multiple fans, you could cool down that enclosure quite a bit especially in the shade however I understand water may not be readily accessible or cheap but with a decent water pump and a water source in the general area like a well or something could work?
And then they grow up and are released only to go through another traumatic experience…?? Do you guys mix them up long and short tails or are they split up?? And if so and are all mixed are there any problems amongst each other??)!Btw NICE WORK, thank you for your kindness..! HUMANS AT THEIR BEST for sure!$$😊

I keep thinking that you should start naming the babies with all the same first letter, and then the next year, you move to the next letter, so year 1 would be “A” and year 2 “B” and so forth. Then you would always remember what year each one was from depending on the letter! Some Horse breeds and some dog breed registries do this to aid with identification! ❤

Are vervet monkeys less inclined to communicate through lip-smacking than other species or is it just that they are too young or would only lip smack in response to their elders doing it to them?
Lip-smacking is a big deal in Vervet communication. You’ll notice that the volunteers replicate it when they’re handling an upset baby or encouraging them to eat. You’ll hear it a lot more in the older videos. For some reason, particular people complained about it over and over and over… As for the babies, however, I’ve never seen them lip-smack.

I’m a Grammar and Linguistics Enthusiast so please forgive my unbridled compulsion to tell you a hard G sounds like “guh” (as in gas, glue, grumpy) and it’s a soft G that makes the “Juh” sound (jokes, joy - prodigy, edgy, smidgen). Okay, sorry, erm… So, anyway, I’ve only ever heard them call her Brig-ē-tuh, and I’d wager the person who named her would’ve corrected them by now if they were saying it incorrectly. The spelling looks very much like the Bridge-ett / Bri-jet pronunciation. From what I’ve seen, the spelling for the hard G form is usually Brigitte and that’s probably why there’s confusion.

I keep thinking that you should start naming the babies with all the same first letter, and then the next year, you move to the next letter, so year 1 would be “A” and year 2 “B” and so forth.
Then you would always remember what year each one was from depending on the letter! Some Horse breeds and some dog breed registries do this to aid with identification! ❤

The vervets do have blue skin, it's most noticeable on the babies as they have lighter fur 😊

Are vervet monkeys less inclined to communicate through lip-smacking than other species or is it just that they are too young or would only lip smack in response to their elders doing it to them?
Lip-smacking is a big deal in Vervet communication. You’ll notice that the volunteers replicate it when they’re handling an upset baby or encouraging them to eat. You’ll hear it a lot more in the older videos. For some reason, particular people complained about it over and over and over…
As for the babies, however, I’ve never seen them lip-smack.

Unless it’s German or Dutch, then it’s as they were saying it: Bri ghee ta. And the “e” at the end would be pronounced “a” but more “uh”. 😊

I’m a Grammar and Linguistics Enthusiast so please forgive my unbridled compulsion to tell you a hard G sounds like “guh” (as in gas, glue, grumpy) and it’s a soft G that makes the “Juh” sound (jokes, joy - prodigy, edgy, smidgen). Okay, sorry, erm… So, anyway, I’ve only ever heard them call her Brig-ē-tuh, and I’d wager the person who named her would’ve corrected them by now if they were saying it incorrectly. The spelling looks very much like the Bridge-ett / Bri-jet pronunciation. From what I’ve seen, the spelling for the hard G form is usually Brigitte and that’s probably why there’s confusion.
