- 7NEWS Flashback: This week, in 2004, Australia’s Wonderland closed its doors. 300 people lost their jobs and, at the time, owners of the theme park told reporters that the land was sold for $52 million.
There were plans for the site, on Walgrove Road Eastern Creek, to be converted into a business park.
The theme park was one of Sydney’s premier tourist attractions, and began operation from Saturday 7th December 1985.
Families paid $29.95 for seasonal Wonderpass and explored the Channel 7 Space Probe, Hanna Barbara Land, The Zodiac, Boo Boo's Balloon Race, the Skyhawk, The Demon and Bush Beast roller coaster rides, Crazy Critters fireworks and participated in the Saturday night special ‘$5 after 5pm’ deal.
The park ceased trading a week before Easter, on Monday 26th April 2004. 7NEWS' Phil Black was there to report for Channel 7.
