Finally some sensible approaches to Rotarys. I follow Off theMap on Instagram its good to hear a sensible subjective approach to new machines, tattooing is a progressive art its bound to include the technology the inks and all its accessories not just the art itself...good work thank you for this

whi EGO ... they talk about Thunder by Chayenne, where are the other tattoo machines ?? Dragonfly, Stigma, Spektra..etc ??? EGO have some issues, like, the needle dont return to the initial posision ( up), when you want to lock the grip, you must use a scruedriver... etc.

I agree , since I started using the hawk I find it hard to go back to coils.

Dan Kubin mini cranker or a Rotary Works, both excellent all round machines, but especially good for lining.

My wife is tattoo artist! We live in Kazakhstan, Almaty. For 6 years of work, I bought her a different tattoo machines. Now there are more than 50. The cost of them was from 20 to 500 dollars, as the rotor and induction. Then looked down and realized that this is nothing complicated. And make my first rotor and now I made for her just old school induction. My last shader weighs 142 grams, 135 hertz, 36-40 per cent of the load. My personal opinion is that it is better well-regulated induction tattoo machine. Sorry for my bad inglish.

    (HELP)
    I'm a tattoo/art lover.
Now I am going to buy my first tattoo machines.
I just need your help to decide between rotary/coil ones.
I've been told the important is the artist, and I agree. But I'm in France now and I need to buy it here because in Brasil I'll be far from tattoo stores.
Unfortunately youtube doesnt allow me to post the link of the one I chose here.

ben talks about tradition, but he means American Tattoo Tradition, cause Asia and Southamerica and ancient places had already handpoke for centuries near a millenia, so if one seeks to show respect for tradition you should REALLY see the whole or the vast or wider spectrum of tattoo history.

Just over 100 years using electric tattoo machines, and 5000 years using fish tooth/thorn and tapping stick--- while Jeff is an amazing artist, I think his opinion on "new" artists should be well versed and up on the history of tattoos, (ie coil machines) is irrelevant considering how "young" electric tattoo machines are.

unless you have $400. to dump into a coil machine that you may still need to adjust every 15 minutes, Ebay dragonfly/firefly is the way to go, it's not a racist statement to say that blacks have tougher skin, a cheap coil bogs, a cheap rotary doesn't bog and gets a nice line, I sold all my coils
