thanks for sharing this...corny but a product of the times and musical. I don't think the women are faking their instruments. If they are, coaching was great. and i so want Merle's guitar.
This is absolutely not the Sunshine Girls backing, but rather a trio called the Glee Gates Trio, with two added women who were not part of the trio. Gates is the violinist, on and off screen. Gates' bassist is miming the rhythm guitar, but not who is miming the bass (it's been reported that it's Polly McKay, but it doesn't look like her to me. The woman miming Joaquin's steel is also not a member of the Gates Trio, but is the songwriter-steel player Bonnie Dodd. Aurally, Art Wenzel is the soundtrack accordion.
As everyone knows, he was one guitar-picking son-of-a-gun. Ain't many guitarists that invent a certain style of playing......and then have that style named for them. He literally influenced thousands....if not millions.🎸
He didnt invent the alternate bass style of fingerpicking just as Henry Ford didnt invent the automobile but he was certainly one of the greatest guitarists, entertainers, and songwriters...16 tons, Dark as a Dungeon and others.
One of those girls is supposed to be Colleen Summers, better known as Mary Ford. Not sure which one--I think maybe the one standing playing the guitar. Crazy to see that pantomime to Joaquin.
Yes that does look like Colleen on the bass and the harmonies remind me of the Millie Pace Trio, who's members included Colleen's sister and brother Bob on guitar
This is simply spectacular!! What an awesome part of early music history!!
Chris... you've got one hell of a music collection there! Thank you so much for sharing!
This is my new favorite video on TH-cam. Thank you so much for posting it

That's cool information. How did you know this stuff. Is there a book on Travis or the trios you mentioned?
