This Tonbar loom was probably a very useful tool when it came out in 1900's.But as you say I guess the big pins are a handicap for using with thin material. Nevertheless I enjoyed watching this video because I love ingenuity and creativity. The person/persons who designed this loom have obviously put a lot of thinking and brainstorming into the design. The grooves on the wooden piece and velvet!!! in the grooves!!! Thank you for sharing your skill and time. 👏👏👏
Your comments have really made my day! It's such a clever tool isn't it, it has become easier to use with each attempt, and as you said I'm sure they all had their plus points. The design and finish of it is gorgeous and I really love it just as an object!
A really interesting tool, although I thought that this seemed like a convincing argument for the "DarnEasy"/"SpeedWeve" over this given those pins and the need to maintain tension between the ends of the warp. I wonder how you feel in comparing the two. Loving your work.
They're both beautiful but the Tonbar is definitely more of a curiosity / lovely to have in my collection whereas I use the Speedweve regularly. Thanks so much :)
