Helen, I have to say this is the best way of swatching watercolour I’ve seen. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t think of it as I swatch all my pencils this way. Just never occurred to me. Thank you so much for sharing all these amazing tips!
I usually swatch in a gradient but I can see how the individual dots can be very useful! I’ve got a small swatch card in my palettes and a big folder with individual colour swatches where I can compare the colours between brands. I love flipping through that folder as it’s very inspiring 😎
@@raecampbellsstudio Swatching is therapy for me 😂 I use plastic sleeves for business cards (or coins) so I can rearrange my swatches when I get new colours.
What a fantastic method !! L never thought loading the color & diluting w/ each dip & pat would be so precise!! Beautifully done! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas!🥰👍
I have all my colors swatched the same way you are showing but only 3 dots per color on good mixed media paper. I use that because I can cut it to size and run it through my printer for the layout. I started doing this after watching your videos! It is very useful for color matching. I think the dots are more useful for me than a nice gradient. I also have done the same style for all my Inktense pencils, colored pencils, etc. They are all in one notebook along with my Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton dot cards.
This video is SO HELPFUL!! Thank-you so much for sharing this! I also really loved the montage at the end, showing some of your beautiful work!! What a treat 👏🙌😍🤗❤🐝
This was something I've not really thought about, Helen. Glad I watched! PS: you must have been working with carmine oil pastels just before this video, but it seems you cleaned it off your hand during a break! 😉 Just teasing!
Nice idea. I do mine in my head from the mass tone and lifted area. Then again, my eyes register ultraviolet in a rainbow. Infrared registers as hot...

I’m literally in the middle of doing this. Creating a comprehensive chart of all my brands. I love doing it

Good idea. I tend to work back to front looking through the paint to see what’s underneath
Not first today 🙃. This is very useful. I might do it for my next swatch card.
