    UGHHH I've only watched two of your videos so far and I found them more valuable than the dozens I've watched over the last few months. My head is spinning! I love the 2 pen thing. I'm working on something called the "toothbrush theory". The over simplified version is treat (almost) everything like your tooth brush. Nobody complains about having too many toothbrushes because we generally only have one. No one ever loses it because we use it and put it back! If you can do it for one thing in your life-you can do it everywhere! :)

    instead of skipping breakfast, you can eat healthy foods at that time, that may or may not normally be associated with breakfast. For example, I get nauseated eating sugary foods early in the morning, so I eat salads for breakfast. Breakfast is just a morningtime meal. you don't have to buy into society's definition of eating pancakes, cereal etc, at that time

      You were way ahead of your time. Actually, eating sweet, processed foods at breakfast is sending your bloodsugar on a rollercoaster for the rest of the day. You body knew that all along.

      Hey Maxine, I have a video on my five biggest roadblocks whenever I declutter (even today): th-cam.com/video/gl3gUmm_VjQ/w-d-xo.html.
      It covers getting rid of things when we spent too much money on an item, bought too much of something, and keeping things because one day we'll use it. For me personally, not hoarding backup and letting go of things I had high hopes for are the most difficult to let go, so I discuss those more in depth.
      I also have many more videos in the works on decluttering and organizing tips :)

    You do not have to eat breakfast. I haven't ate it in nearly 6 years. In my first year doing it, I lost 61lbs. I do what's called Intermittent fasting and I use the 16/8 or the 14/10 method. Meaning I fast for 16 hours and eat my two meals within an 8 hour time frame. for 14/10, I fast for 14 hours (8 of which is sleeping) and eat my meals within a 10 hour block. I usually have coffee with heavy cream or water during the fasting hours. I usually eat my first meal around 2pm and my last around 8pm. After the first week, I stopped getting hungry until about 1:30-2pm.

    I am also a two meal a day person. I usually walk or hike in the morning. Then I have a sandwich or leftovers, raw vegetables, and a piece of fruit about 11:30 or 12. Supper is around 6. If I am hungry between meals I have either some cheese and crackers, pretzels, or a piece of fruit. No weight problem here and I am almost 60. My father also ate this way his whole life and was trim and healthy. He didn't die of bad health either but from a blood borne infection (MRSA) from his doctor's office.

      maybe..... but our ancestors did live on 2 meals per day. It can actually give your body a break from digesting, not eating so often. As a nutritional therapist I find some or all practices are from research/non research opinions. And that's is what they are just opinions. Every person is different so one way of eat doesn't suit all. :-)

    • @katherine6574
      @katherine6574 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Our ancestors died really young also. It's unhealthy to eat only twice a day

    • @umarchow
      @umarchow 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Moonica no they didn't die younger! Do your research! The body is nit made to deal with a lot of food... most people graze all day like animals... always munching.... it's very unhealthy and detrimental for you.
      Check out intermittent fasting

    On eating twice a day, I wanted to add that it’s what works for me. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and it’s improved my life in productivity, meal planning, and weight. But it's not a hard-and-fast rule for me: I'll eat something small mid-morning at least once a week. Just do whatever works for you. You can choose which two meals you want to eat, and you can choose not to do it all and pick a few of the other tips to suit you.
    Studies have recently come out supporting that breakfast is not the most important meal of the day (see New York Times article). However, eating twice will not work at all for some, particularly diabetics and people trying to gain weight. It depends completely on the person and their schedule.
    WebMD says, "The number of meals you eat doesn’t matter as much as what you eat.” Because American serving sizes are large and because there is so much sugar in breakfast foods, it is difficult to maintain weight with more than three meals a day. That is my point that I didn’t deliver clearly enough in the video: Nobody needs to eat 4-6 small meals a day if they're trying to lose or maintain weight, and that is a huge relief.
    Hope you all are having a great week!

      I am sorry, but after 8-10 hours (which will actually be 11-13 hours, because you don't eat just before going to bed), I would say breakfast is very important.

      More Melody Intermittent fasting has been great for me! It's a myth that we MUST eat breakfast. If everything else is balanced then it can work for some. Not those who are hormonally imbalanced though. Great vid

      @casgiatina 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think this is going to vary greatly from person to person. Some people cannot face eating first thing in the morning, so skipping breakfast might work for them. Not for me though - I literally cannot function before I've eaten something!

    I majorly disagree with your thing about groceries. I go the grocery store once a week because I try to eat fresh and especially locally grown stuff all the time. Locally grown stuff doesn't have as much preservatives so it goes bad much faster, but is still better for you. Also you should not tell people not to eat breakfast. I feel like lunch is the meal you should skip. You're supposed to eat within an hour of waking up otherwise your body starts to go into starvation mode.

    I LOVED your first tip! I've been trying to figure out a solution for this for months! and I finally got an answer thank you!!! 💛
    Although I do have a question about that. I have two little boys and even if I didn't it's just a lifestyle choice that we keep shoes off in the house so how does that work with you putting your shoes away in the closet in your room? Or would it be ok if I had a shoe station that's separate?
    But then that bothers me like you explained you want everything together but I just am not sure how to do it when my boys have a routine of taking their shoes off by the door.
    It just doesn't seem very clean to carry dirty shoes through the house to put them away in the closet. Or idk, is it really not that bad maybe I'm over thinking it? What do you think?
    Nevermind I paused it right before you further explained. lol.

    I'm surprised at the no breakfast tip. My nutrition professor in college (she's a PhD and nutritionist for local pro sports teams) said breakfast is essential to start your metabolism for the day. I've also heard this from other nutritionists I've seen at my medical provider. They said even something small if you're not a big morning eater to start your metabolism for the day. Interesting.

    Hey Melody, I've watched you for several months now and am a subscriber. I feel you are very wise. You have a great capacity for psychology, so it's a lot more than just minimalism or organizing tips that you give. I appreciate the comment about how we don't want to clean our cleaning products. Very good point and I'll be hiding more bathroom items tomorrow! I have a question for you. In one video you highly recommend the Shark and later on you 've now gone to Roomba. I remember comments that you didn't want a vacuum that missed spots or ran over the same spots or ran more than it needed to. Just wondering why the switch? I personally don't vacuum, but there is a time and place for them. What would you say the pros and cons are of the 2 you have called life changing?

    with the old dish rag being stored in the container with water and vinegar, would there be a problem with it growing mould from being constantly wet?

    Love the 30 day no spend money, I will be trying that.
    You are right, it's a good idea to cut back on baking.
    I am the same way, eat twice most of the time. I do have a latte so that curbs my appetite in the morning.

    I go to the gym of course but I started to only eat two meals as well and dropped 10 pounds in a month. I try to do a smoothie with fruits and vegetables when I get up with a water. Eat an apple or a banana if I get hungry during the day and eat 300 to 400 calories for dinner.

    I can't get behind the 2 meals a day suggestion, but I agree with most of the rest. I am a little confused as to why we'd need to do keyboard work instead of just using a mouse? I've had the same mouse for several years and it works just fine, and is much quicker for me than using keys.
    As for cleaning products, I have been using up old stuff and finally am getting to a good place with those. I do use a lot of vinegar and water for cleaning, so it has taken some time to get rid of the other stuff. One way I've used some of it up is when friends have had to move and clean their apartments before they move out. It's a great way to use up the cleaners w/o just tossing them away.

      I don't get it either. sitting at a desk all day is bad enough. shouldn't be limiting the little movement you get

      if you are a power touch typist who knows keyboard by heart repeatedly removing hand to use mouse slows things down. Also many persons with visual disabilities depend on the keyboard. We were very upset with windows 8 which removed some keyboard functionality. Why? It was designed by younger designers used to mobile devices. They thought the keyboard was obsolete. For example, the RIBBON rejected the quick accessible menu bar with Words. However, on a desktop computer, 2 or three keystrokes could perform an action faster than than removing hand, searching for mouse, moving mouse, finding correct keys again, etc. Especially, when editing.

      Kathaline Hansen eh yeah maybe if it's a job that requires you to stick to a schedule other wise it's not any better. like where I work. I can go as fast as I want but it doesn't mater because I'm performing tasks as they come.most of my time is spent making decisions for customers because they are unsure of their needs. and I agree. the new windows update is awful.

    While I agree it's too easy to consume excess calories skipping breakfast is not the best way to go. Better to have an easy, healthy breakfast - I have instant oatmeal with raisins most days. Some might need honey to sweeten this but I find I don't. Eating two additional satisfying but not excessive meals as soon as you feel hungry is also a good idea. Everyone's metabolism is different so maybe you can manage fine with no breakfast but a lot of us just run low on energy mid morning and end up binging on lunch.
    Love your ideas - some I already do and others I will surely try.

    Minimalist usually do not address cutting down the number of accounts and credit cards etc. this is big and helps with your finances as well! It is much easier keeping track of one account than it is keeping track of 5. Same with coupons. But I do understand that this is also a life choice and some people get value out of this. I don't mean monitory value it is almost like comfort food is for others. So if that is your life style fine, but if not then I would highly suggest get rid of too many accounts and coupons.

    This can work for some people. I used to eat only once or twice a day for the purpose of convenience but I was actually at my heaviest during that time. When I forced myself to eat three meals I dropped weight without even trying. Found out it's because your metabolism gets faster when you eat more meals at a smaller portions. That's why those fitness freaks eat 6 meals a day- It revs up the metabolism and keeps their weight down. Different folks different strokes.

    I love this video & you have some great tips, but 2 meals a day is not healthy, it doesn't matter who you are or what your diet goals are. Further it's not ideal to give advise like this when you are not a nutritionist or dietitian. A healthy, cheap & minimalist lifestyle can still be followed, but restricting is definitely not the way to go.

      White or rice vinegar is pretty good. Apple cider vinegar seems to be really popular but that shit is soo strong.

      @lauren8627 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      put some essential oils in to mask the smell. i have a very good sense of smell and white and rice vinegar is too strong for me. i usually use orange or geranium oils.
