This is my ultimate favorite Mastodon song but you absolutely need to check out the Crack the Skye album, it's "From Mars to Sirius" levels of art, it's legendary imo.

I think crack the Skye is even a level above from Mars to Sirius, legit one of the best metal records ever.

Name is Brent Hinds. Watch his interviews and be amazed how such a crazy guy survived that long, let alone creating such music

I did watch the making of Doc. He does seem out there! Such a unique sound and style. Such an emotional player.

they have 3 (lead) vocalists. the beginning is the lead guitarist, the middle is the drummer, and the heavier vocals are the bassist. the other guitarist even does backup vocals occasionally. such a talented group of dudes.

This album might be one my favorite intro to metal albums. They cover many different styles in ways that are easy to listen to. This song is my favorite from the album too.

A true masterpiece. My fav mastodon song." Once more around the sun" is my second choice.

Mastodon is similar to Gojira in the sense that most people only know or react to their newest material, while their early music is very underlooked, specially their first album Remission. They've also mellowed out a ton too in terms of the heaviness and complexity of their songs, hopefully you'll check out a lot of their catalog like you did with Gojira!

    • @puppetmaster8551

I feel like most people react to blood and thunder or oblivion. Remission gets skipped over tho in the reactions, leviathan/BM/CTS all gets an ok amount of reactions for mastodon

My favorite band right now. Their discography is so diverse and so good. Songs like Hearts Alive, Pendelous Skin, O'le Nessie, This Mortal Soil, Sleeping Giant, The Czar, The Last Baron, The Sparrow or Siberian Divide are a must. Their drummer is a monster and Brent Hinds, their guitarist is like a metal version of David Gilmore. My favorite guitarist along with John Butler. They are all very good. Like the bands from the 70's. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱. Love Gojira too🤘

I will be digging into them for sure. Thanks for the knowledge. You must be familiar with one of my favs, Riverside, as they are also from Poland. Great band!

@@sonicallydisruptive Yeah, Riverside is good. Our own version of Porcupine Tree😉😁. As I remember they are from Warsaw. Nice guys and very good musicians. The funny thing is that they are not as popular here in Poland as in the other European countries. Like Behemoth a few years ago but this guys are now big here.

Vary nice choice in this song. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard by Mastodon. This song to me is about feeling like a outcast to the world and family. Good song.

When Mastodon opened up for Iron Maiden in 2005 in Gothenburg, Sweden: "the setlist of Iron Maiden's 2005 summer tour consisted entirely of songs from their first four albums. In Sweden, the band headlined Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg for the first time, which was broadcast across Scandinavia by SVT. The show's initial 53,500 tickets were sold out in 2 and a half hours." I was there with my brother-in-law and Mastodon didn't impress at all at the time (hey, opening for one of the most legendary "nwobhm" heavy metal bands of all time besides Judas Priest, that's no easy task). This was way way better that the live experience back in 2005. I'm still amazed they showed the entire concert live in all Scandinavia for free on public broadcasting. Damn, this took me back to that amazing concert because they ONLY played songs that I was waaaaay too young to experience live when they originally toured for the four first albums: th-cam.com/video/11Q6besFvqg/w-d-xo.html
I've also decided that I just MUST get to Sweden Rock this year since Opeth, Devin Townsend, Gojira, Haken and other awesome rock/metal bands at the same festival.

Mastodon has sounded downright terrible at times live tbh (usually from the mixing or Brent sounding like a banshee)
