Can you also talk about After by Anna Todd .. personally I haven't read it and I'm not going to it's about Harry yes Harry styles And it portrays him in a really bad way(it was a fanfic on Wattpad originally)
It’s because we live in a world where books have become rather unpopular and their readers have become uncool. When you see someone reading a book under these conditions, it’s almost like witnessing a random act of humanity but in much, much simpler terms. It’s almost the same feeling as when you find out that someone else likes the same unpopular tv show as you do. You don’t even have to talk about it, you just take an indescribable amount of comfort from the fact that you’re not the only one who watches it. In the same way, you take an indescribable amount of comfort as a reader from the fact that you’re not the only one.
When I see someone read I always try to get the title without the person noticing that I'm looking at him/her. Feels weird sometimes. I think I should copy this challenge.

"Speaking to someone on the London Underground is actually illegal." Whoops. I definitely did that when I went to London. The Londoners brushed my American ass off fairly quickly, but surprise surprise, a Parisian struck up a conversation with me and gave me tips on where to go for the few hours I was there. I said, "Man, from all the rumors I've heard about Parisians, you are much more friendly than Americans make you out to be!" He said, "Yes, but we like it that way, so that is our little secret." Then winked and got off the train.
Jack's description of "small pleasures' reminded me of an old friend in secondary school. We had three writing exams throughout the term in which we were given a theme and told to construct a short story around it in one and a half hours. I don’t know, I make fun of plenty of trash I like to read. We all have guilty pleasures, playfully poking fun at them isn’t the same as active bullying writers/readers

Honestly , you’re one intelligent person. Every time I hear u talk about a book I’ve read, you say something I have even thought about. And that’s always interesting, whether I would agree or not. Just wanted to let you know that you’re very cool.
Only interaction I've had in public transportation (I read everytime I take the transport for over 15 years) about books is someone asking me what I was reading. I was reading an essay on Le Pur et l'Impur by Colette so told her about the author, she didn't seem to know her, so I mentioned quite a few books by her and when I said la Vagabonde (translated as The Vagabond in english), her eyes grew bright and mentioned she had read it! Only, it was La Vagabonde by Danielle Steel :p (original english title is Wanderlust). I've then swore that if I ever saw someone reading Colette on the bus or the subway, I would read the book by Steel, but it hasn't happened yet (the discussion happened over 3 years ago). [I always love to see people reading on the transport, last week, I saw my first person reading a manga (A promised Neverland) but I generally see people reading class books, often I see Dune by Herbert, lot of detective story, a few Shade of Grey, seldom SF, seldom comics and graphic novel, rarely do I see non-fiction ]

Yeah, there are some that aren't great, but there are some that are and there are some that are becoming (either great reader or writers). It isn't cool to shame what's mostly just some young kids leaning their way into literature.
Yess and Wattpad has a reputation for being kind of a fanfic site when in fact there are so many books on there with well thought out plots and characters that aren't fanfic

Oh c'mon they are infamous for goofy works and people joke about it 🤷♀️, I agree with what you said but he and many others are just playing around
I don’t know, I make fun of plenty of trash I like to read. We all have guilty pleasures, playfully poking fun at them isn’t the same as active bullying writers/readers

Literally WHAT was that ending for Small Pleasures!! I agree it felt like it belonged to a completely different novel 😂 The cover is as *chef's kiss* as the arty shots in this vid 😍
I read both Hamnet and Small Pleasures after watching this video. I was totally entranced by them, particularly Hamnet. Thank you !
i'm obsessed with Hamnet, i saw Maggie O Farrell speak last week and she was a pleasure to listen to!
this is such a fun idea! I always saw so many people reading on the tube
Even though I live in America and don't use public transportation, I will note that if I ever go to a city overseas where Jack could be, we're bringing our kindle. Periodt.
this inspires me to not be afraid to read out a book in public. thank you!
Honestly , you’re one intelligent person. Every time I hear u talk about a book I’ve read, you say something I have even thought about. And that’s always interesting, whether I would agree or not. Just wanted to let you know that you’re very cool.
Jack really got me through a tough mental health point, thanks x
I think this is my favorite video of yours, I love the editing the script and everything about it!
Hearing Jack talking about The BillxHillary scene in Rodham, has gotten me curious, it’s like when people talk about a bad movie and then you have to watch it too because you want to see it for yourself😂
Now if only I could do this concept to strangers with headphones in.
