Red is Drum Sampler (you can upload your own idividual samples or create them with the machine) and blue is a Synthesizer + fixed drum samples (you can't upload your own samples to blue machine). I use the red for the drum parts and blue for melodic stuff + percussion + kick/bass. Check out my new stuff there you will see it better.

I would get both because with the emx1 you can go into sounddesign and with the esx1 you record the stuff you made.... Its nicer to have a sound that are made out of, for example, 3 different synth sounds recorded as one sample... If you can follow me....
