I don't know about there in the UK, but here in the US, they do break the set down and sell the irons separately, the wedges separately, the putter and the driver/ woods/ hybrid as a separate set. What you can't get as of yet, is individual irons.
Great video. I spent $750 for the full set here in the U.S. - that includes the bag, 14 clubs, and the world's worst club covers. I will tell you why I bought them and I may be part of their market. I have two sets of clubs - my "home" set and a "other home" set. My other home set was a complete hodge podge of clubs purchased over the years. I played with them in November and noticed how difficult it was to play such a mismatched set (different lengths, different flex, etc.). I purchased the Stix set so I could have a complete set of decent clubs for when I am working at my other home - these seem to be perfect for that. I have only hit them once (stupid winter), but I like the feel. Most package sets are too cheap and don't give me the feel that I want - these have a good feel, look great, and fill that niche for me.
Interesting how the 750 dollar price tag in the us has been converted to 800 pounds here in the uk ,someone needs to check their maths again , another reason to leave these clubs alone along with the black issue
I bought this set and so far I am pretty happy .I am a returning golfer in my late 50's . LOVE the irons but taking a while to get accustomed to the driver. This is my first hybrid as well so that is taking getting some used to. BTW bought them at Christmas and got them for 25% off so a much better deal. Love the larger grip on the putter as well, gave me a little more confidence on the green.
Great review and summary Matt. I totally agree with you about the price for a full set. When I first started, I remember buying a full set of relatively unknown brand clubs and they served me well for a couple of years. However, I only paid about £200 and I was more than happy to do that to start. I don’t think I would have considered paying £800.
I bought the full 14 piece set, and I'm absolutely in love the with the clubs. I am very impressed with them, and I thought the price point was fair. I do have some concerns about durability with the finish of the clubs because of the matte black finish. I've played with them a couple times though, and so far so good. I went with graphite stiff shafts and it was exactly what I was expecting. Worth considering for sure.
@@mikaelekstrom9553 I don’t know if you’re still looking at these clubs or not, but you’re definitely going to see wear and tear after a while. I bought these clubs when I returned to golf after a very long break. I played somewhere around 25 rounds of golf with them, and you can see some wear. But, to me, that’s not really a knock on the clubs. I’ve since upgraded to Ping G430s and have played a similar number of rounds with them. I see similar wear patterns on the Ping driver just like the one from Stix. After all, they’re both black, and you’re just going to see it more than you would if they were more of a brushed chrome color. If the wear and tear is an issue for you, I’d recommend getting them in the brushed chrome (or whatever the color is called). I got their wedges in that color and they don’t show the wear nearly as much. So ultimately, why’d I switch to Ping? Well, I’ve always been a fan of Ping clubs. I like the way they’re weighted, and the feel and look on the irons just inspire confidence. Does that mean the Stix clubs didn’t perform? They absolutely did. They are great clubs for their price. Are the Pings better? In my opinion, yes, but I paid over three times as much for the Ping set as I did for the Stix. Up to you to decide if a marginal performance increase and a bit more confidence is worth three times the price. If price is a factor, I think you’d be very satisfied with what Stix has to offer.
@@AlabamaGolfer I just ordered the ask echo tlock bag for these clubs specifically. I can't wait to get them in the mail. I golfed with my dad back in the day and loved it. He's since passed and I'm also in the market for a 6' plot of real-estate. I've introduced golf to so many of my family and friends im finally upgrading from a set of good will clubs to something more substantial. Can't wait
I too found the clubs after Rick reviewed them. I am early 50's and started last year to get back into golf after playing the odd round maybe once or twice a year. I have the exact scenario that was described, getting back into golf using my dad's old clubs, and my son using a garage sale set that was incomplete. I bought the full set of Stix during their Black Friday sale, and all in with shipping and duty was about $1200 CAD or roughly 700 pounds, so I think at that price point out was a no brainer in my situation. Having said that I have not been able to try them yet due to the multiple feet of snow, but looking forward to the spring!
I totally agree with you I just started golfing a few years ago with a very budget set that served its purpose. This year I wanted to upgrade as my game has improved a bit. I started pricing out 2nd hand clubs and found I would still spend around the $1000 mark for a full quality pieced together set. I was intrigued by the Stix brand but agree the price was high. I ended up picking up the 14 piece set on Black Friday sale for $599. I'm glad I pulled the trigger, I've only golfed 4 rounds with them due to weather but have been very impressed with the performance. Like matt said the 7 iron fly's. On a simulator I was hitting the 7 iron consistently 200-205 carry which is 30 plus yards further than my last set. The irons and wedges are great, I'd say my least favorite club is the driver but I'm figuring it out and I'm sure most of the problem is my swing. As far as durability I am already started to see some black finish wear on my wedges but I fully expected this to happen when I looked into the clubs. It won't affect the performance but I'm sure eventually it won't look great. I hit a few bad shots on the toe of my driver and it created a couple ugly marks but like I said it's on me I just need to hit the middle of the face to avoid that lol. I think they do need to sell the clubs separately or in smaller sets. I accidently left a wedge on one hole and was worried because I couldn't just buy one, luckily a nice golfer picked it up and turned it into the clubhouse. Keep an eye out for deals these sets seem to go on sale several times per year and if you can pick them up at a discount the are definitely worth it.
£899 is far too much for something you can’t try out. Very valid point about breaking the set up into more realistic price bands. I can see people who want maybe a new set of wedges or irons being tempted to try them out, then it’s not as much of a risk financially. If they love them, they can always add to the set as they have the need to do so. Putters though, are a very personal choice, don’t think I would ever buy a putter without being able to try it first.
Totally agree. We are working to expand our UK site's offerings, and they do offer a trial period for the clubs. But yes, being able to get in a store and feel it in your hands makes a big difference. That's our goal!
As someone who has recently got into playing golf in the past few months, package sets are very appealing. My thought process is you get a full set of up to date modern clubs, and then you can space out any improvements like a new driver/new putter or new irons over 3-5 years say.
Just ordered the 11pc set for $511 USD. Driver, 5w, 4h 5,6,7,8,9,pw, 56°and putter. I currently am playing a set of cobra speedzone irons 4-sw, pxg 0811x driver, bombtech 3w, evnroll putter, mizuno 50°, 56°, 60°. We'll see how the stix are. I bought all of my current clubs used except the pxg driver so I only have about $650 into the whole set I currently play.
Not something I would buy as a full set but the irons or the wedges as seperate packages I could definetly see me getting following the review from you and Rick.
Me and my regular partner both bought a set on black Friday for £650 we're both relatively new to golf (2 years) and they have totally changed our game, they really do perform v well for your below average golfer (20+ handicaps). That said, £900 I'm on golf bidder
Matt I think you are correct. I think most people including myself cant afford to buy clubs all at once. I built and pieced together my bag club by clubs basically. I went wedges, putter, irons then driver. I could not afford what I got in my bag all at once. Also I hit my clubs first and get a feel for what I buying before hand. So i think your onto something here with this Brand
Gotta hand it to you Brit TH-camrs, you guys are troopers when it comes to winter golf. It looks nice on video and in my warm house but I know you guys are cold 🥶. One of you guys should do a video on clothing and layering, it’s part of the game too. Apparel isn’t cheap either so maybe a little guidance?
I have a new callaway paradym driver a ping g400 hybrid and a new odyssey putter the only clubs im looking to upgrade is my irons but im so bad right now i cant justify spending 1300 for a set of name brand irons so buying a set of irons through stix as a middle ground to the old set i got for 150 on fb marketplace till i can improve my game to get the ping im looking at (g430) so im all for buying individually vs as a whole set
Hit the nail on the head. I was looking at these after I saw ricks review as a beginner golfer I was looking for some new irons as a cheap set as i'd rather put the money towards lessons then getting fitted for some decent irons but they don't offer the split in the UK
I bought the full set. Love them, played ~20 rounds on them, and the finish is very much wearing off the more heavily used clubs.. but I don't mind.. kind of makes them even more bad ass looking IMO. I quickly replaced the driver with a Ping 9.5°.. the 10.5° stix driver is too much loft for my club head speed.
My starter set was £250 macgregor package set enough to get me started. That was my budget and I've upgraded bit by bit. £899 is alot of money in my opinion and if I was looking to spend that much I think I would rather go down the second had route. And get quality clubs I know will last
I want a set of Stix as you show here, I always buy my clubs second handed so I will get them in a year or 2 :-) until then my PingG10 stee shaft with new grips or my BigBerta 2002 graphite shaft also with new grips are the best for me.
Bought the set for £647.25 off their site. Honestly like them, absolutely nothing wrong with them, and they look cool! Putter is a bit heavy, but we’ll worth the money and the woods are great.
When I started, I had some hand me down graphite shafted MacGregor irons, but wanted something new and knew nothing about the brands. I ended up buying a set of Maxfli irons because they were new and cheap. That's the market they should be trying to go after. Now that I started playing again and know a bit more, I've pieced together my bag from second hand clubs that I think suit my game. I wouldn't buy a full package set at this point, but I am certainly game to try out new gear if it is sold individually. I find it interesting that on their site, it looks like they are partnering with Vice. I really like the Tour ball personally as its a great price when you buy them directly from Vice, but you lose some of the value when just buying a single dozen like on the Stix site.
I did buy the set but it wasn't the full set with the wedges. Just the woods, irons and putter. 12 clubs for usd599. I have been playing once a week for the past 9 months. They have been great. The irons are accurate and consistent. They look good, yes the SW has lost the black finish, but that's okay as it still looks ok with the silver base and it still performs well. So for usd599 I was was happy to change my 15 year old clubs. Not sure I would have pulled the trigger if it were usd899.
When I decided to try golf last summer, I knew almost nothing about the sport, the equipment, the rules, etc. I bought a new starter set of clubs from Dick’s Sporting Goods in the US. For my first year of golf, they were fine. But before the season was done, I bought a mint condition used M2 driver and brand new Ping putter that had been sitting in a pro shop for a few years (never used). Now that I have played for one season, learned so much from video and in-person lessons from PGA pros, and now know about fittings, I would NEVER purchase clubs again without trying them first. I plan to get a fitting for everything later this year because I want to improve. I think one needs the correct equipment if they are seriously interested in doing their best.
Great review. I would be more likely to buy if broken down from a full set. I would be interested even sold as singles. But no way would I buy a full set without trying them.
I don't think Matt realises you can buy it all individually on the website and they're cheap.. Was looking forward to hearing about the performance but we didn't get much of that
To put this all into context, my bag consists of - Epic Flash 10.5 driver Srixon H65 Hybrid Ping i15 4-PW Vokey SM6 52,56&60 Nike Method Origin B2-01 putter and I paid less than £500 for the lot and, all were in 8/10 condition when purchased over the past 10 months.
Matt in answer to your question I'd be very interested to have these irons go up against Caley irons, I'm thinking of new irons and you have given me food for thought very good content.
Bang on Matt, I’m presumably the target audience as a high handicapper just getting back into the game. I think they look great, but the package is too much to tempt me without being able to test them out (even with 25% off over Christmas). If it was £75 for the putter, £350 for the irons, £250 for the woods say, I’d be far more keen to give one of the sets a go. Also, the black looks cool, but they need it to last better than the v1 and v2 have
Hey Matt have you ever heard of Bombtech golf clubs? I only have their 52 56 and 60 wedges but they are fantastic. Especially for only $150 for all 3! Would love to see a review on these from you
Thank you for another great review Matt. I do want to say, I agree with you. If they broke up the set. I might be a customer. Truthfully, I was almost a customer. But my personal experience with their customer service was extremely disappointing. Didn't get any timely responses to my 3 email inquiries about sizes and availability questions. Over a month later I got one email reply. But I had already gone in a different direction. Keep up the great work, Cheers!
Hey, Greg! Sorry about the experiences you had with us. Definitely not what we like to hear. We have been focusing on customer service and timely responses, so that has changed for sure. We do offer some single clubs as well! And we have a trial period for them. If you have any questions, reach out! You will for sure get a timely responses.
Gotta try the new Haywood Combo set! More expensive than these but still DTC and way cheaper than big brand. They are forged, have custom options, and offered in lefty.
Hi Matt direct to consumer golf club Giga Golf... looked at them? I've got some in the bag and honestly they are damn good. They have a 30day playabiliy scheme too.
MD Golf used to do a forged cavity back for about 300 quid, superb clubs. Difficult for a new brand to win over a big enough market share to make any money.
I think you are thinking in the right direction. I just bought a complete cobra rad speed iron set for just over eight hundred dollars. I’ve seen both videos and I think both of you are on to something.
Really insightful business logic, Matt. 👍 I would be more open to buying small sets or single clubs. Just a taste before deciding whether or not to drink the entire pint.
A quick google I found a set of 12 Cobra F9 clubs for £999, this is from a well known company and not even a budget clubs, As you correctly say £899 for an unknown in the UK brand is too much, your idea of clubs and wedges on their own and the pricing points are spot on
I have had this set now for about three weeks and gamed them for 6 lots of full rounds. Driver has a clunky sound like the old Nike square drivers (maybe not as bad, but not pleasant either, woods and hybrids perform just like they do, irons to PW hit straight and finish still flawless, there’s a bit of marking on the sand wedge face but i kinda like that to be honest. I’m pretty careful with how i handle my gear tho, some people do things like bang their clubs against the ground or the edge of another surface if they hit errant shots but i don’t do “frustrated” stuff like that, that could potentially mark your clubs. I’m happy with them
I completely disagree on the price point. In fact, it helped me feel better about the quality of the clubs. If I were only paying $500 USD on a full set, I would question the durability for sure. But seeing on how many people love these clubs, and they have now included a 30 day money back guarantee if you don’t end up liking them, there’s no reason to not give these clubs a try. They’ve been awesome for me! Worth every penny!
I’m in Australia and wouldn’t pay that much for set that hadn’t heard of I payed around that for full set with no putter but with bag of tour edge hot launch had heard of them don’t have handicap so paying more a well known brand could not justify but do rate the tour edges for a hack like myself
You answered every question I had about these clubs. That's exactly what I thought after watching Rick's review. I'm (reasonably) happy with my driver, wedges and putter but as I'm back to golf after a 20 year brake I would love a set of good irons like these, but can't commit to spending £500+ and definitely not £900 on a full set without ever having held them. If I could buy them bit by bit that a different story. Great explanation, thanks Matt.
If i could spend that money i would love to have a set like that but i can see the problem with compairing it to name brands and also i feel that new golfers that just want the complete package they will buy it. Great vid and also they dont ship to SA so i cant even buy them if i want to
In these videos, I'd love to hear a brief mention of the weather and course conditions. To an American living in a southern Atlantic state, it frequently looks like you're playing in crappy weather (e.g. cold & wet), on fuzzy greens 😂 Love the vids, nevertheless Matt!
It is funny. In the US, Stix does exactly what Matt suggests. They sell the set in pieces (irons, wedges, woods etc.). The best deal is to buy the whole set at $899 (was previously $799 when I bought them).
yes I would prefer to buy clubs either as a set of irons or one club at a time. options like this are much more suitable for the average golfer. we don`t want to spend big money on a full set of clubs without trying them out. thanks for video
As a new golfer I have heavily relied on 2nd clubs. I’m not going to spend £900 on a set. As my game has improved I know what I need, but still it’s not a £900 set. £200/£300 that’s a price I can stomach for irons. Too many decent 2nd options out there for this to work as a full set.
It’s a no from me too. £900 is a lot of money for a full set. Package sets always seem to be aimed at a new golfer or someone getting back into golf and £900 is a serious investment. Always feel building your bag like a goal in golf and really spreads the cost. Second hand first, then build your way to what you want in that bag. As you get better with more practice you add in what you feel you need and boosts confidence and feel good factor in your game
It looks like the US is a bit different, so the point is moot for me I guess. But to answer yours, no chance. They look awesome, the wedge spin seemed really impressive, but there's no way I'd go $899 for the full set. I guess I'm not the target market, but I just wouldn't want a bag set, and if I did, I'd likely be the type of person trying to get one for very cheap. The middle ground is a bit of a "white space" b/c I don't think a lot of golfers live there. I'd gladly give the irons or wedges a go but it's definitely not replacing my driver or putter. Those are very specialized imo.
You are right they need to sell them separately. I would be interested in the irons and maybe the wedges, but I’m happy with my bag and putter and woods . So I’d be wasting money buying all and knowing I couldn’t sell them to anyone. So if they split them up I would give them a shot
I would but the hard part on new to me clubs is that I am a lefty and use items are hard to come by and sometimes a little bit more then a right hander set.
I bought a set of fazer from American golf, just because £150 was my budget, if I could get a set of these irons for £200 I would be goin out and buying them 👍👍
The weird thing about "premium" package sets is that people who buy package sets are usually looking at them like gateway drugs. I say this as a person who is currently transitioning out of a package set. I'm not looking for a new package set, I'm looking to maybe find a part here and a part there. What's important to note with the Stix set is that when browken down into parts, they have to compete with the price points of other DTC brands like PXG and sub 70 who not only are close to their price point, but also offer more shaft and grip options as well as adjustable loft woods. Then you have to add in the second hand and clearance markets as well.
I could care less about the longevity of the finish considering it’s black and looks so sexy I’m more concerned about reliability and consistency. Just got a 9 club set just to have a nice little grab and go set and they look and feel great
Think Styx have been in the UK some years ago (70s?), but maybe getting then muddled with another brand. Anyway, the price point of £900 sits in no man's land. We definitely need entry level prices for beginners and occasional players but £900 is not entry level. It's not really the next set either as by then you'll probably be looking at upgrading in stages, irons, wedges etc. Which overall will cost more but in easier amounts and custom fitting. For entry level the set needs to be around 650 ish. ??
£899 is probably £400 too much for a starter set, or a get back into golf set. £899 is the kind of money you spend when you've improved and want the right equipment to take your game to the next level. Even a well known golf store has a package set of Cobra Fly XLs for only £650 (including headcovers and a bag). You can also visit the store and probably have a hit with them before buying as well. (Btw I'm not on commission or anything, but have tested and purchased clubs from this retailer in the past - there are some good deals to be had if you look around).
Plus at $899 why not spend another $150 to $200 and get a set of Titelist, Cobra, Calloway, TM... @ $600 a package might make sense. I think splitting the set up to sell would be smart for them.

In Australia they sell all the different packages from 14 piece down to 9 piece or just irons to just wedges.
Hit the nail on the head. I was looking at these after I saw ricks review as a beginner golfer I was looking for some new irons as a cheap set as i'd rather put the money towards lessons then getting fitted for some decent irons but they don't offer the split in the UK
We are working on filling out the offerings for our UK site. It's for sure in the process! Appreciate your interest!
Oops £674.25
Was looking forward to hearing about the performance but we didn't get much of that
To put this all into context, my bag consists of -
Epic Flash 10.5 driver
Srixon H65 Hybrid
Ping i15 4-PW
Vokey SM6 52,56&60
Nike Method Origin B2-01 putter and I paid less than £500 for the lot and, all were in 8/10 condition when purchased over the past 10 months.
I need some new wedges over here in Aus! Any chance I can steal these stix ones??
We do offer international shipping! Shoot us a message if you have questions.
It would be really good to get your review of the Caley clubs similar kind of concept!
Matt in answer to your question I'd be very interested to have these irons go up against Caley irons, I'm thinking of new irons and you have given me food for thought very good content.
I do love the look off them in the all black I wud buy them if I had the money as I use slazenger from sports direct
I agree Matt very good way to put it.
I'd like to see a review on Bombtech golf clubs another smaller company with really good pricing but would like to hear your opinion
Also, the black looks cool, but they need it to last better than the v1 and v2 have
Great honest review Matt must say the wedges look mint 👍
Watched this driving to work today that music was lit 🔥
To be honest I’d probably do exactly what you said buy second hand branded name and totally agree on splitting them up for the wedges etc…. 👍🏻
Hey Matt have you ever heard of Bombtech golf clubs? I only have their 52 56 and 60 wedges but they are fantastic. Especially for only $150 for all 3! Would love to see a review on these from you
Great video and discussion Matt
No I wouldn’t spend £900 on these. Totally agree with what you say in your video Matt.
Would look at second hand set of known clubs over these. 👍🏼
A quick google I found a set of 12 Cobra F9 clubs for £999, this is from a well known company and not even a budget clubs, As you correctly say £899 for an unknown in the UK brand is too much, your idea of clubs and wedges on their own and the pricing points are spot on
Would never pay 899 for a set I know nothing about. But those wedges look great and if they were 150 for all 3 I would defo give them a blast
My Brother has a set of Stix irons, they are at least 30-40 years old, so they've been around a long time, but very much under the radar.
I saw STYX PING lookalikes in 1975!...bought Daiwa Trypowers instead, they were fantastic.
We do offer single clubs and split up sets in the States, currently working on expanding that in the UK as well!
I bought them, they are fantastic.
I see they’ve taken your suggestion on their website. 🎉
Had a look at these a couple of times, I would definitely be more tempted if they were broken up to try the driver first. Great video!
Hey! We do offer some single clubs-like the driver. There's a handful of others as well. And we have a trial period! Reach out if you have questions!
@@StixGolfGear it's not giving me that option, when I click 'shop' it only shows the full set?
@@benjaminwilliams5914 The single clubs are available only in the States currently. Are you located in the UK? I can send you a link if need be
If i could spend that money i would love to have a set like that but i can see the problem with compairing it to name brands and also i feel that new golfers that just want the complete package they will buy it. Great vid and also they dont ship to SA so i cant even buy them if i want to
bang on - they are missing a trick and losing sales by selling the whole set as a package
We do offer the sets split up and individual clubs in the States! The UK partnership is new and we're currently working to offer that there as well.
In these videos, I'd love to hear a brief mention of the weather and course conditions. To an American living in a southern Atlantic state, it frequently looks like you're playing in crappy weather (e.g. cold & wet), on fuzzy greens 😂
Love the vids, nevertheless Matt!
It's northern england, it's always crappy weather! 😂
It is funny. In the US, Stix does exactly what Matt suggests. They sell the set in pieces (irons, wedges, woods etc.). The best deal is to buy the whole set at $899 (was previously $799 when I bought them).
The UK partnership is super new! And we are working to expand those offerings to the UK. It is in the works!
yes I would prefer to buy clubs either as a set of irons or one club at a time. options like this are much more suitable for the average golfer. we don`t want to spend big money on a full set of clubs without trying them out. thanks for video
excellent pts matt.
I would buy the full set, price not an issue, just love the black finished. Hope they upgrade the black carbon coating to last.
Great review. Sensible economics. Do more of these mate.
My set is completely second hand except for my putter. I probably spent $650 total and I have a great set. Mostly Ping.
Nice to see an original video for once, not just from you, but from anyone. So many cliche videos on TH-cam nowadays
Definitely agree I would happily pay £150 for a set of those wedges
They'll be available in the UK soon!
Similar to Caley in that I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Cheaply made with a black finish does not warrant that price point
Just found online and £189 for the 3 wedges on the UK store. Very tempted
That's why caley golf would be a better option mate 👍
Great video. Those clubs look 🔥
Yeah spot on, good review
Bomb Tech is a similar company I find in the same price range but with them split up and similar quality.
You are right they need to sell them separately. I would be interested in the irons and maybe the wedges, but I’m happy with my bag and putter and woods . So I’d be wasting money buying all and knowing I couldn’t sell them to anyone. So if they split them up I would give them a shot
In the States we offer the sets split up-wedge sets, iron sets, etc. That's something we're working on bringing to the UK very soon!
I would but the hard part on new to me clubs is that I am a lefty and use items are hard to come by and sometimes a little bit more then a right hander set.
We feel for lefty golfers! We got left handed and they're the same price as right handed. Holler if you have any questions!
@@StixGolfGear thank you
Matt what happens to all the clubs you test, do they have to be returned to the companies ?
I bought a set of fazer from American golf, just because £150 was my budget, if I could get a set of these irons for £200 I would be goin out and buying them 👍👍
I done a full review of the caley irons. They are spin on. Give them a test.
This is great feedback. Thanks for this!
Lot of dollars for the clubs to scratch and look worn at what looks like an early stage of ownership. Thanks Matt
Just bought my 3 edge set in the US for 190
I would not spend that kind of $ for those clubs right now because of everything you said but maybe down the road once they get a following, we’ll see
Do they come with a bag?
Can you review some clubs from Sub 70? Seem to be quality clubs for the price
I paid top dollar for mizuno wedges with a blue finish. Two months and the finish was gone.
I am about to replace my Vokey sand wedge with...a Vokey sand wedge. Mind you I have had it for 20 years.....
Snapped the head off of my 9i and 5i within 2 months, something to take into consideration before buying.
I would say the Cobra fly Xl is a better package deal
Interested
Plus at $899 why not spend another $150 to $200 and get a set of Titelist, Cobra, Calloway, TM... @ $600 a package might make sense. I think splitting the set up to sell would be smart for them.
