I think that people should be smart enough to understand when a situation can be dangerous for themselves, surely the security and owners in this case haven't taken all the right precautions, but I don't feel like giving them 100% of the blame.
@Anthony O'Neal yeah, but he isn't wrong though. I think we all should judge whether or not somewhere is too crowded, if either police, or fans were smarter, there wouldn't be 96 people dead, so its not 100% at crowd controls fault.
Danielle Dewitt ya I don’t think the fans would start chanting.. if they can’t breath they would just be consuntrated on getting out. I dont hear anything all I hear is yelling and shouting
I hate too imagine how crushed it was in those pens. I can think of it being very compact, but then I realise that it was even more tight than that. I can't even imagine what it's like to be so crushed up against other people that you literally can't breath or even move.
Angus Jones its insane i still have flashbacks from a experience i had at the bdo in sydney in 2001 . I cant really put into words how terrifying it is , the heat the way u cant move and the crowd is like one whole entity and the fear .i will never forget it.
Apparently it was reported that ribs were sticking out of bodies, so it was far worse than I thought. The pressure preventing you being able to inhale air, and also oxygen being in little supply by such a concentration of people. Add in the sheer pressure causing internal damage to their bodies. How in hell did they not see this as a potential disaster in this stadium is mind-boggling.
@AmarNathan one man said he noticed he could not move his arms which had never happened before. Later he had no control over his movements, he was just carried forward by the surge, his feet couldn't touch the floor.
@@DaveThompsonfairlife4all I don't know about that, one man who survived though had cracked ribs, what is incredible is the fact that the barriers between the terrace steps actually collapsed under the weight and pressure of the surge. Imagine the force required to bend and then snap metal barriers. Without those barriers the full force of the crowd was applied onto the front of it.
I experienced it once. The experience was just terrifying. I was unable to move, unable to breath and felt helpless. It was hot and confusing. I collapsed. Think of the experience as someone put a plastic bag over your head, your hands tight behind your back and you are stuck inside a trunk/box small enough to just fit with no room left to move even a little bit. And, the trunk/box is placed near a fire. On top of that I did cry for help but no one heard me screaming. It was too loud. You can only scream as long as you can breath. The last few breaths feels like you are trying to breath under water. Since that day I am claustrophobic. And, I am scared of stampedes too. I simply avoid crowds now.

There should be consequences for Politicians and for the police written into Law, whenever they deliberately lie to the Public! Or nothing will ever change for the good.
They do exist taxipandy. There's an offence called 'misprison of office' in which a sworn officer of the crown (MP's and Police fall into this as they both swear the oath of alleigance when taking office) are liable to prosecution if they knowingly 'give false report' or abuse their power. Even an MP inside Parliament is subject to that law despite being immune to many others. Add in that they signed and gave false statements to the coroner and other courts and they're potentially guilty of perjury at the very least. Conspiracy to pervert/obstruct the course of justice are also potential charges and of course the police commander on the day could possibly be charged with negligent manslaughter as well.
The point is though the authorities and police are kind to like fellow police and ambulance workers but then treat everyone else much less equal than they treated the police

It must be horrifying feeling like you can't breathe, being crushed, hearing people scream and panic, seeing somebody near you being trampled to death.
There were just too many people packed in too tightly in too small of a space. It wasn't just people up against the fence that died. People that were in the back died as well. They asphyxiated/suffocated. This wasn't the only time something like this has happened. It happened at the Ibrox stadium in 1971. 66 people died and more than 200 were injured.
Have a read on www.stuff.co.nz/world/middle-east/72437352/how-people-die-in-a-crowd-crush. It's a really good article explaining how people die in a human crush. Basically, you get sqaushed between people and your chest gets compressed to a point that your lungs can no longer expand. And you can't do anything about it because you are trapped inside a dense crowd and are unable to move. Usually, you don't even realise you are dying until it's too late.
It is astonishing that fans weren’t turned away. The capacity of the stadium must have been exceeded. And sending fans into two areas, a disaster waiting to happen. The police are at fault it is clear. Good lord it must have been frightening beyond all comprehension of what the crush must have been like. Very sad and could well have been avoided.
The capacity for the stadium wasn’t actually exceeded. The police simply failed to direct fans away from full pens. It’s unbelievable how incompetent Duckenfield is.
@@sombodyoncetoldmetheworldis that myth has been debunked, though there were pockets of fans without tickets, it was not the cause of the tragedy. "Lord Justice Taylor, in his 1990 report into the disaster, concluded fans were reasonable to arrive between 14.30 and 14.40 as match tickets only requested people be in their places "15 minutes before the game". He was also satisfied that the large concentration of fans who gathered Leppings Lane at 14.40 to 14.50 "did not arrive as a result of any concerted plan". He concluded that police had "failed" to prepare for controlling the arrival of a large number of fans in a short period. Both the club and police "should have realised the turnstile area could not easily cope with the large numbers demanded of it" unless they arrived steadily over a lengthy period. He accepted there were "small groups without tickets" looking to "exploit any chance of getting into the ground". But the main problem was simply one of "large numbers packed into the small area outside the turnstiles". He stated categorically that "fans' behaviour played no part in the disaster". The Hillsborough Independent Panel (HIP) report concluded crowd congestion outside the stadium was "not caused by fans arriving late" for the kick-off. The turnstiles, it said, were "inadequate to process the crowd safely" and the rate of entry insufficient to prevent a dangerous build-up outside the ground. What the jury said: The behaviour of Liverpool supporters did not cause or contribute to the dangerous situation at the Leppings Lane turnstiles." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-35473732

There's a documentary about this from 2016 (about 2 hours long). Everyone who thinks this is the fault of the fans should go watch it. Hopefully your idiotic minds can see that it's not the case. For everyone else it's an interesting documentary, albeit sad
There seems to be several contributory causes of the disaster. It is undeniable that the Police management of the situation was poor, that many senior officers perverted the course of justice in the aftermath, the ground was not fit for purpose, and that the 96 victims were blameless. However there is one issue that no-one seems to want to address which is why were so many Liverpool fans all trying to access the ground so close to kick off for a major cup semi- final. There were no similar issues at the Forest end and no such issues with all the many semis played at Hillsborough in previous years. The truth is unpalatable but the reality is that during the 1980s when Liverpool were in their absolute pomp and winning everything in sight there was a culture of arriving at grounds late after" bevying up" in the local pubs until ridiculously close to kick off. I witnessed this myself during this period and also the large numbers of fans turning up without tickets. I have no doubt that the chaos ensuing outside the ground was caused by Liverpool fans and this led to the unfortunate chain of events.
Like Liverpool remembered the 39 juventus fans their "fans" murdered at heysel by having a homecoming parade on the anniversary of the slayings? Unbelievable hypocrisy
I'm 80 years old And still don't know why thatcher wasn't Held accountable I have been in a crush at a game no fence you were lifted out on to the field not caged in.
All that needed to happen was to delay the kickoff time for half an hour and the disaster would not have happened what a monumental lack of common sense and intelligence with such devastating consequences.
The central tunnel to pens 3 and 4 didn't have it's usual police horse patrol either to stop people entering those pens once full. Police fuck up (and then cover up) from start to finish.
My dad was at this game as a Forest fan when we used to live in Sheffield. I remember playing outside on our driveway with my brother and my dad stepped out our front door, well dressed, looking excited, big smile on his face. I asked where he was going and he said he was off to Hillsborough to see the match with some colleagues from work. The next memory I have is being in the car with my mum a few hours later having come back from shopping in town and seeing loads of blokes walking away from the stadium. She stopped and asked someone what was going on and he said the game had been cancelled. Fast forward later that evening and we hadn't heard anything from my dad (no mobile phones in 1989!). We desperately and anxiously sat watching coverage on the 10pm news and then saw him helping people on the pitch as they were pulled from the stands! He was tearing down some of the advertising boards from the sides and lifting people on to them and in to ambulances. Only this week he said he still has the ticket to the game. Aweful memories but he played his part in helping as best he could.
the police got off with this, 2 centre pens were overcrowded a long time before the game started and not 1 police officer could spot this. also no one stood trial for changing witness statements, is that not a criminal offence in itself, bad day for british justice, makes us a laughing stock of the world. britain has for a long time challenged other justice systems in the world, time to get their own house in order.
Why were there only 2 ambulances on the pitch in the disaster? The number of ambulances on the pitch should have been either 30 or 40. Also, why didn't the fire brigade attend?
May be it's too late to react. But all the lives lost for a match, wasn't worth it. Some matches can be skipped. I hope we have learnt our lesson. RIP to all 96 🙏
My ground..the ground i used to go to every other week back in the 90s...i even used to sometimes sit on the leppings lane because it was cheaper...and it did feel unsettling walking through that gangway tunnel...you do think of what happened and the victims...you can't help it ..may they r.i.p
As an American I had forgotten this. In 1989 I saw it on the news. Never knew why team rivalries were so intense. Soccer fans fighting at games. It turned me off from a good sport. Here it was a crush because of security concerns. Saddest losses of all.
As an OWLS fan all I can say is God bless all the families and RIP to all their lost loved ones. I hope that they can reach closure and move on with their lives.
Duckenfield should have been punished for his negligence. I was at the big day out in syd 2001 , and i really thought i was going to die , the heat and the way that the crowd was like one beast and the unsufrable heat and claustrophobia i will never forget and i cant go into big crowds now as i have a sml amount of ptsd from it in regards to being trapped and had a bit of a break down a few years ago as i worked in theatre building sets and got caught under a stage and still have nightmares about it all ,i really feel for all the ppl who have experience this kind of horrific event .rip the Hillsborough disaster for all esp the familys and rip the girl who perished at the bdo i think her name was Emma .
Coming from Australia, I only recently moved to London, I feel for all families who have suffered the loss of family from this tragedy. I think for the sake of safety, all stadiums should have seating. It’s a real shame what happened in Paris last year with the champions league final, but nothing can be compared to Hillsborough
No one gonna question why the fans didn't use common sense? HAD TO SEE THE GAME! Honest curiosity here... people start yelling they're being crushed but more fans just pile in willingly?
They couldn't see how full the pens were from the other side of the tunnel and once through they were trapped! The capacity of the pens should be regulated by the police and access blocked (on this occasion by closing 2 big heavy gates) when they reach capacity, Not only did police NOT do this They actually opened an outside gate allowing even more fans to enter the tunnel to pens 4 and 3, The fans assumed there's room because access is still open.
So how come this stadium was used for semi finals for years with no incidents ? I was there and Liverpool fans turned up without tickets at 2pm-2,15pm. Forest fans were in their end in plenty of time and not in the pubs. So sad that the innocent Liverpool fans were the ones that died that day. R.I.P.
There was enough room on the full expanse of those terraces to safely accommodate ALL ticket-holding fans, and (as well dissected since..)....also ALL those who arrived without tickets....FACT. The point being that it was how a section of the fans were "channelled" into those central pens which caused the disaster....NOT that ticketless fans caused an excess in safe capacity, because those who crunched these numbers at the inquest made it quite clear that properly dispersed, even the none-ticket-holders would have safely been able to occupy the entire terrace along with the legit ticket holders. This may be morally wrong....but in terms of safety, that terrace was well able to safely hold both the honest and the dishonest on the day in question.....should they all have just been guided to the appropriate places on that terrace.
It is truly horrifying what happened.

@Anthony O'Neal yeah, but he isn't wrong though. I think we all should judge whether or not somewhere is too crowded, if either police, or fans were smarter, there wouldn't be 96 people dead, so its not 100% at crowd controls fault.

David Dukenfield and a few fellow officers overseeing the game are found guilty.

Lewis Grana there were too many people so people were getting crushed or squished so their lungs couldn't expand so they ran out of breath and died
harleyhunt03 Same as what happened at Love Parade in 2010.
Why they dont sing now "You will never walk on yours " ?
Have a read on www.stuff.co.nz/world/middle-east/72437352/how-people-die-in-a-crowd-crush. It's a really good article explaining how people die in a human crush. Basically, you get sqaushed between people and your chest gets compressed to a point that your lungs can no longer expand. And you can't do anything about it because you are trapped inside a dense crowd and are unable to move. Usually, you don't even realise you are dying until it's too late.
Rip to all people who died very sad and will never be forgotten
It is astonishing that fans weren’t turned away. The capacity of the stadium must have been exceeded. And sending fans into two areas, a disaster waiting to happen. The police are at fault it is clear. Good lord it must have been frightening beyond all comprehension of what the crush must have been like. Very sad and could well have been avoided.
The capacity for the stadium wasn’t actually exceeded. The police simply failed to direct fans away from full pens. It’s unbelievable how incompetent Duckenfield is.
It wasn’t helped by some Liverpool fans turning up without tickets trying to gain entry
What the jury said: The behaviour of Liverpool supporters did not cause or contribute to the dangerous situation at the Leppings Lane turnstiles."

And if only the policeman in charge had actually prepared himself for the day and instructed fans to move to the side pens

That's what I was thinking too. Its sad but entirely avoidable if they didn't behave like manic idiots.
They couldn't see how full the pens were from the other side of the tunnel and once through they were trapped!
The capacity of the pens should be regulated by the police and access blocked (on this occasion by closing 2 big heavy gates) when they reach capacity,
Not only did police NOT do this
They actually opened an outside gate allowing even more fans to enter the tunnel to pens 4 and 3,
The fans assumed there's room because access is still open.
Seem tried to turn and get out but they couldn't. Because more people were coming in making it impossible
Omg dude cmon
So how come this stadium was used for semi finals for years with no incidents ? I was there and Liverpool fans turned up without tickets at 2pm-2,15pm. Forest fans were in their end in plenty of time and not in the pubs. So sad that the innocent Liverpool fans were the ones that died that day. R.I.P.
There was many incidents at this stadium before 1989.
