    Very similar design to the Sony xb2. I own one and it's pretty impressive for it's size and I love the added sony signature extra bass equalizer and power gain. So this gives me an idea to try and figure out some enclosure spacing for a more rounder sound towards the low end of this design to capture that little speaker, big sound aspect.

    you are the only one i could find on youtube who actually builds quality bluetooth speakers, this size! good gracious what a sound and really punchy bass too! your build with the four bose drivers inspired me to build my own, finished my first prototype and the bass is less than i expected and there are some other minor downsides... hope my final build will turn out as great as yours! Can I ask you for some advice?

    I like it, but there is one thing that makes me wonder.
    The middle rubber pad is out of phase compared to the speakers.
    This might reduce the bass quite a bit.
    Maybe better to mount that on the rear?

    Hey there, i got a fucked up Klipsch iPod dock, but the speaker are in great condition and have a very good bass. They each have 18Watt. Should i use 2 of these passive radiators and double the volume of the enclosure?

  • @YdenPL
    @YdenPL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great, that passive radiator was a great idea.
    Hmm, I think I still have a 18650 laying around from an old powerbank, I might try this.

    • @toysareforboys1
      @toysareforboys1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use a quality 18650 battery, if it has fire in the name, it's not quality ;)

    • @YdenPL
      @YdenPL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It doesn't even have a name... But it has not exploded
      yet

    • @toysareforboys1
      @toysareforboys1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you put it under big load like in this amplifier it might explode. If it doesn't have a name I wouldn't use it unless you can load test it on an expensive charger. A single 18650 can kill you from the fumes it can vent if things go bad. Don't trust it.

    Is ok to use 90x60mm pasive radiator for 2inch 3w speaker ? Or smaller ?

  • @mal0ko
    @mal0ko 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about separating the channel compartments, with each channel having its own passive radiator, one of the front and one on the back? But i think it will greatly add complexity on the build since you will need to seal both from each other.

      In theory a second battery shouldn't require some sort of special protection board. One board across both cells should work fine

  • @TheJohdu
    @TheJohdu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    cool build. on sound: too much in the high mids. should try to reduce even further around 2-3khz (and than readjust HF output accordingly). or maybe it's just that the voice accenturation on your soundcard isn't disabled. generally measuring with calibrated equitment helps ;)

    • @BarryLlewellynYT
      @BarryLlewellynYT  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the advice, the speaker definitely needs a little fine tuning with it's sound. And yep, calibrated equipment would help, but sometimes you gotta make do with what you have!

  • @Raul-yd8yg

    The speaker sounds great, looks great, and its quite easy to make, but the battery seems a bit too small for two 5W drivers I think
    I might be wrong and maybe its more than enough but the size of the battery just seemed small

    • @toysareforboys1
      @toysareforboys1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The battery he used (Panasonic NCR18650B) is rated for 5amps continuous and 10 amps peak, so 18.5 watts continuous and 37 watts peak :) If you used a much newer battery with a hair more capacity (10amps continous, 20 amp peak, Sanyo NCR 18650GA), then you could double the wattage.

    Bro, this rubber in the middle is for what purpose?

    • @EL34FILIP
      @EL34FILIP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's a passive radiator. This puppy will increase the total active speaker surface. Because if you want more sound you need more sound pressure = moved air.
      It is made of rubber and most of the time it is about 2x the diameter of the other used speakers. It's resonance frequency is low so this radiator will boost low frequencies. By other words it is a passive low frequency booster.

    • @CarlosHenriqueNoronhadeAguiar
      @CarlosHenriqueNoronhadeAguiar 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      EL34FILIP its a woofer with no energy?

    • @halsoy
      @halsoy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      not exactly. what it does is the sound pressure that builds inside the speaker pushes against the membrane of the radiator, making it push the air on the outside of the box. it's a way of making sure that as much as possible of the energy (air moved) produced by the active speakers get used. If you don't have one of these, all the air moved inside the box gets wasted.

    • @xyanide1986
      @xyanide1986 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lotta speakers wasting energy then LOL. The first guy was right, passive radiators act as a wonky woofer.

    • @Benik333
      @Benik333 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But when it's placed like this, it move out when speaker goes in. So the phase of sound from rubber is opposite to speaker => it will lower the sound.
      It's not easy like "yeah I will add rubber and I will get more power". it can be even worse...
