    One thing about starting the drip line, you should let the line run along time to make sure that you develope large enough well under your emitters. If you don't that well will be too small for mature plants. It's especially important for perennials like lavender. Do make sure when you set up the system, for the next few days run the good long time so the area around that is wet deep and wide. This will create a large water well good for mature plants. God bless.

    I love to grow field or southern peas and blanch and freeze them. My standards are old Mississippi Purple Hulls and Texas Cream 40. I would not mess with peas at all if I had not inherited a Taylor Way pea shelling machine. mine is 40 years old and is made in Georgia. you might consider featuring one on your show or even adding them to your product list.

    You offer propagation domes for your Delux Seed Starting Kit and the seed starting smaller trays.If you could find a germination cover for the larger trays, that would negate some if not all of the need for the germination chamber you described. Heat mat + seed tray + propagation dome = fast and efficient germination.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not likely we'll ever have a dome for the larger trays. That's one reason we added the smaller-scale kits, so that the indoor growers would have a dome.

    Yes please add tank tops to your line. On the drip irrigation on raised bed..why not drill holes in the sides of your raised bed. Now bear with me and think about it. If you are trying to get your water up, why make it go up that high? Depending on how high your raised bed is, use a drill with a 1 - 1 1/2 paddle drill bit and run your drip tape through the holes and however much you need throughout your bed and out to your other beds on the same fashion. That way your water is not having to travel up as high before it gets across to your plants. I can send a pic of what I drew up if needed. Yall did very well explaining everything on this show. I am currently debating the drip irrigation for this year. I know I want to try it and I don't doubt it will be worth the cost, I'm just having to limit my spending so I'm experimenting with using what I have on hand at this time..again yes to the tank tops!!

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a filter/regulator at each plot so I just move the water hose from plot to plot. I find that's easier. You could certainly unscrew the filter/regulator from the mainline and move it with the water hose from plot to plot if you'd like though.

How do I get water specifically to these pots using my current drip tape system? Just a little confused......can I attach a mainline tube line (instead of drip tape) to my mainline to reach the pots and then build up and over? Will this affect the other drip tape rows? Love all your videos!

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want to water the containers a little bit different, but you can tie the entire system together. For the containers, I'd recommend using the drippers like in our Container Watering Kit (hosstools.com/product/container-watering-kit/). The mainline tubing is the same between the drip irrigation kit and the container kit, so it can be tied together so supply both the in-ground garden and the containers.

    I’ve really really been eyeballing the 8mil kit y’all have. Its designed for up to 20 rows best I can figure. But what if I don’t want to water all 20 of my rows at the same time? You have on/off valves for your row starts listed separately on your site. I’d be much more likely to buy the kit if I didn’t have to buy two sets of valves separately for another 50 or so dollars. Have you considered adding in the shutoff valves in your kits?

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have, but that would also increase the cost of the kit. Since the valves aren't completely necessary, we didn't put them as part of the kit. That's more of a customization option.

    What is the "minimum" flow rate to use the fertilizer injector? I have 4 raised beds 8' long. I have room for 3 lengths of tape in each bed, that's 76 total feet of tape. That calculates to a total of 0.36 gal/min. Is that enough "flow per min" for the siphon on the injector to work?

  • @gailpetchenik3048

    My garden is 100x30. Can I just run a 100’ main line & attach all of my rows to it? Will there b enough pressing to go that far? Or do I need to divide it into 2 , 50’ sections to water separately

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pressure is will not be your issue. The issue will be do you have enough flow to support that many rows at once. As we stated in the video, you can water 250' of tape at a time per 1 gallon of flow rate. If you don't have enough flow to support that many rows, you may consider creating zones within the mainline to water sections at a time.

      We've never had any issues and we've been burying it for years. If it were to clog, you can always remove the row end and flush the lines.

    Old Alabama Gardener puts milk on his tomatoes. Never tried it but may this year if I can get some to grow. I tried seeds this year instead of plants. Once your tomatoes get their true leaves and you up pot to potting soil, how wet do I keep the soil? I had a lot of several varieties that looked so good but almost all of them wilted and died after transplanting. I fertilized 1/2 strength, did grow lights, gave them fan air, and started hardening off, did all the things. I wonder if I kept them too wet. Very frustrating since they were all doing so good. I had about 60 zinnias that did exactly the same thing.

      Just keep the soil moist. We water ours 2-3 times a day in the greenhouse, but indoor growing may not require that much.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're pretty heat-tolerant, so they're not as water hungry as other crops. We'll lay drip on top of the soil, plant the slips beside the emitters, then cover the tape when we hill the sweet potatoes.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's 0.48 gal/min per 100 ft. of tape, which is the equivalent of 0.0048 gal/min per emitter since the emitters are located every 12" along the tape.

    there is no need for a tank 25 feet off the ground to provide pressure. Pressure is provided by elevation only. An open ended PVC pipe leaning up on a tree or building near your garden works fine. A few feet of clear plastic pipe at the very top helps so you can see where the water level is. just turn on the valve and let the drip system charge. Water will then back up the standpipe and flow out of the top. then simply turn the valve down to where you can see water in the clear pipe part. Keeps from wasting water. If you don't have the clear plastic part you can't tell how far down the water level is so you might not be running high enough pressure. This pressure system can't get clogged up. The emitters might but this part won't. A store bought pressure regulator is probably better but this can be a quick fix if you run over yours and have to order a replacement.

    I watched an RbR two nights ago that kinda struck a chord with me. You guys were going out of your way trying to justify the high price of your seeds by saying that too many people undervalue what they got. You then stuck up a coke bottle and pack of MnMs to make your point. Before I go any further, let me first say that I'm all for making a buck. But what happens when they guy selling you the seeds realizes that you are making more money than he is and he is the one taking the risk and doing all of the work? Does he raise the price and then you raise your already higher than everyone else's price even more? At what point is enough, enough? Not trying to be a prick. Just a food for thought kinda thing. And when i say risk/work, I'm tlaking crop failures and time invested. I know yall are taking a risk and have time/work involved also... but it's not the same so to speak. Be well. Love your vids. I watch every one to the end to help your stats and am a premium youtube subber.

      I wasn't trying to justify our seed pricing. I was simply explaining why consumers have seen seed price increases in the last year and might continue to see some increases. This analogy was made by one of our competitors on a zoom call. I was simply sharing the analogy he made as he stated that their company was looking at price increases. We were just trying to be transparent with our great viewers and providing insight into some industry trends that we expect in the future.
