      Alex Gabriel Yes, each new dimension contains the previous ones, if we’re talking about spatial dimensions. But it’s so very easy for us to confuse space with spacetime that saying “the third dimension is space without time” really requires us to stop and think for a moment. How can there be a 1D line with no width or depth? How can I make a 2D plane out of 1D lines, doesn’t zero width plus zero width equal zero, no matter how many lines we combine? Likewise, how can we stack 2D planes with zero depth to make 3D space? Why doesn’t zero plus zero equal zero? And if 3D is space with no duration, then how can we stack frames of 3D space to make a 4D wordline?
      As Kip Thorne says, from a fifth-dimensional perspective we would see the multiple 4D worldlines of Everett’s Many Worlds stretching out around us in the 4D geometries of the tesseract. But if someone has been taught that there is only one inevitable worldline for the universe then that idea seems impossible.
      This is why I’ve always argued that it makes sense to think of time, as a way of describing change from state to state, as being in the next dimension up. A hypothetical 1D creature would say time was in the 2nd dimension, a 2D Flatlander would think time was the third dimension, while we 3D creatures think time is in the fourth dimension. In each case the dimensions are really spatial, but are being perceived in a uniquely limited way.

      How do scientists and Mathematicians come up with the math for this stuff?

    • @10thdim
      @10thdim  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Skinny White Boy A lot of modern thinking started from the development of Maxwell’s infinitely scalable field equations, which grew from the study of fluid dynamics. Definitely observation of the natural world is where this all started, but it took many steps along the way to get from Newton to the Schrodinger equation, which I show at the end of my new Tesseract video.

What about something like the 4th demension? Do 4th demensional objects give off 3d shadows? And is there actual organisms in all the other demensions? And also a black hole compresses adoms flat, so is a black hole a gate way into the 2nd or 1rst demension? But we can't go there because our bodies are not made for it?

    The way I'm starting to think about it is that just like how a line which is something that exists in the first dimension forms the shape of a square in the second dimension a square forms the sides of a cube in the third dimension. Our perception of past, future and present are just the "sides of the cube" in the 4th dimension. Basically they are all components of the 4th dimensional character. And just like how a square exists as a side of a cube and can't see the other sides because they are perpendicular to it the same way we can't see our past and future because they are perpendicular to us. But still they both exist at the same time. Also when you think about it if you alter the size of a square that is part of a cube you alter the entire shape and form of the cube. That's how by manipulating your present you shape your future.

      We can change our future by changing or choosing different "what if options in our present " , but to look deeper into it our perception of past, present and future, is basically based on how our "soul"/ the subconscious perceives it and----
      just like a square exists on one of the sides of a cube but still cant see the other sides as a result of being perpendicular to it , we cannot see our past and future which are perpendicular to us ,,, but still they exist at the same - ^TIME--
      And by manipulating your present - as we perceive it and changing your future you cant affect your happened past unless you wanna get stuck in a time loop.

    For all the nerds out this, read this. Imagine a 2d world. Everyone there can only look to the left, right, forward and backwards, and everything in between. but one square who lives in the 2d worlds says "I just visited the 3rd dimension" and no one believed him. He said there was another new direction, up. But no one else could imagine this so called "3rd dimension". So everyone else said "point to it". But the square was unable to do so. The same rule applies to all dimensions. The 4th dimension isn't time. It is just another direction we could never see.

      No one can see time. As time is all man made. You wouldn’t be able to see this fourth dimension in our 3D world because we only live in 3D. The way I envision this is the same way we invision objects in 2D. Take a cube for example, cut it into a slice and it is now 2Dimension because it only has an X & Y coordinate. Furthermore, apply this to the 4Dimension, if it’s duration, imagine humans, from their birth to their death. We cut a slice of a 4Dimension and we get the Present. A lot of people believe that we live in a 4D we just can’t see it. There is a theory in which our only way to envision this phenomena is to do it digitally on our computers. Think about it, have you ever seen a frame by frame video on TH-cam? That’s what it would look like. Hoped I helped, cheeers!

The greatest thing I've learned is that there are people in your life who want to control and destroy you. They are narcissists. This documentary has set my mind above them, where I can spot them easily, and I thank the man who made it for that reason alone. I have spoken to him briefly online about some questions I had about the documentary, but not about how I wish to shake his hand someday and thank him personally. After shuffling through many videos, I found that 6:28 - 7:35 is the best virtual demonstration for understanding this profound place called the 4th fucking dimension.
    I noticed that each dimension is a copy of the prior one. From a dot (zero) to a line (1D) to a flat surface (2D) which then the flat surface copies itself to create depth. From there on, being our 3D world, the way we view it as it is from our vision point of view, is being copied over and over and over and over which gives the illusion of time.

    • @Natta44
      @Natta44 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh like an old black and white movie is made up and 100's of stills, but it moving gives an illusion of a moving picture. So our 3D world is like lots of constant copies of itself happening forever giving the illusion of time passing that we cannot see or understand because it remains outside of our view. We only theorise we have a past because we remember an event or record it. A simple animal would not know it has a past or a future. But humans do and can only 'theorise' time based on events we can quantify in the physical world that has happened, happening now and will happen. This is so interesting!

    You know that bug that happens on old computers sometimes, where you drag a window and it leaves a trail of windows behind it? If you can see everything happening at the same time in the 4th dimension, then maybe a fourth dimensional universe would look kind of like that bug, with millions of long snakes of matter leading outwards from where the universe began? So a person would look like a trail leading everywhere they've been in their lifetime, to where they'll eventually die.
    I'm probably completely wrong and look like an idiot right now...

      That would be wild, although I can't help but think that might actually be traveling backward a dimension or two, wouldn't it? Say, a theoretical 1 or 2 dimensional being who had no concept of time, is already laid out on a line or in a box and that line or box can only be traveled back and forth within. I would think that is where you'd get your trails and time travel, ironically enough. But I also see where you're coming from with the 4th dimension as everything could potentially be "opened up" then. Interesting to think about either way.

    You're the only one I was able to find that described 4D exactly like it should be described. Not a single word was wrong and not a single concept was inexact or vague. It's been some time since i started thinking (or at least trying to) in a 4th dim. way and you literally took what i realized and put it into words.. amazing.
    The only thing i would've insisted more on is the fact that thinking in a geometrical way is useless when trying to understand the 4th dim., Because our geometrical thinking is limited to 3d and can't go outside that box. The only way to really take a peak is to "feel" the duration, it isn't something that can be put into a 3d language. It's amazing how philosophies like hinduism, buddhism, taoism understood this thousands of years ago and modern science is just about starting to catch up.

      Deepali Chawla No problem.
      If you follow down the list, you notice that each dimension requires the next one in order to exist.
      Every universe is held within a realm of infinite dimensions, but ours exploded into three accessible ones: length, width and depth, forming volume.
      Therefore, based on analogy, the 0th dimension still has an imperceivable about of every higher dimension. It is the basis of existence, the most primitive form of "space."
      Every universe has either exploded from a 0D point, or they still remain 0D points.

Your light being self is no longer bound to this dimension so you experience all dimensions and realities at once. The reason why we have such a troublesome time perceiving and bringing about concepts of how to describe this supposed "4th dimension" is because we are beings of the 3rd dimension, and as such, we don't have words ingrained within our vocabulary to possibly describe this phenomenon. This also applies to us attempting to imagine the 4th dimension, seeing as we are always seeing objects of the 3rd dimension, and don't have the best basis to leap from.
    The 1st and 2nd dimensions seem so easy to grasp for us, considering that the 3rd dimension built off the structures/foundations of the 2nd dimension, which was built off the 1st dimension. This struggle we have of perceiving the 4th dimension is the same struggle that a being of the 2nd dimension would have while attempting to understand the 3rd dimension.

    Correct me if im wrong (which i probably am) but does this mean that the 3rd dimension is a cross section of the 4th dimension? And the 2nd dimesnion is a cross section of the 3rd dimesnion? So time in a 2nd dimensional sense is comprised of all the cross sections of that spaces' movement, creating a 3 dimensional figure so to speak. And as this moves up a dimension (to the 3rd) our 4th dimensional time comprises of every 3rd dimensional cross section?

    • @10thdim
      @10thdim  9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Apple 3.14 Exactly! Thinking of "time" as being in the "next dimension up" is an idea I have promoted in a number of my videos... which means that yes, if you were an imaginary 2D flatlander, "time" would be a direction in the third dimension, and the opposing direction would be "anti-time". If you were a 6D awareness, for you "time" would be a direction in the seventh dimension, and so on.
      Regarding your comment about each dimension being a subset of the next, I agree. In the above video I say this:
      "...none of these dimensions exist in isolation. You can't make a 1D line without using points, you can't make a 2D plane without lines, you can't make a 3D space without planes, and you can't have a 4D duration without multiple planck frames of space. Saying "the fourth dimension is duration" makes no more sense than saying "the third dimension is depth", if when we say those phrases we're thinking you can have duration without space, or depth without length and width. Saying "the fourth dimension is space-time", then, at least acknowledges that the fourth dimension encompasses the dimensions from which it is constructed, and doesn't exist in isolation from the other dimensions."

      +10thdim Imagine you're reading a novel... Everything from the beginning to the end has already been written. You can flip to any page you want and go back and forth between the timelines as a 3d being reading a 2d book. In my opinion, our 3d world can be interpreted as 4d "book" if you will where all things that happened, is happening, and will happen is already "written". Perhaps we're the result of 4d creativity just like flatlanders are a result of 3d creativity except 3d can support life as we know and experience. Crazy shit right?

    • @10thdim
      @10thdim  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +john carter Nice image! The fourth dimension as we look back in time appears to only have one set of "pages". If we believe that everything about our universe is inevitable and free will is an illusion, then that single set of pages would be all you would need to consider to get to the end of our "book", our space-time universe. This project shows how those pages are actually coming from a fifth dimensional probability space, where a combination of choice, chance, and the actions of others picks one or another incremental page from the many possible ones to continue the process of creating our observed reality one planck frame after another.

    • @quantumwaves447
      @quantumwaves447 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +10thdim In my opinion, free will is certainly possible but is in limited grounds. Okay here's a better example. See I think that there are an infinite amount of choices that can be made and for every choice we make, there's a different timeline. For every small minute thing that happens in 3d, it's accounted for in the 4d Novel. So it would be more like an interactive novel, or a video game. if you think about this deeper, our concept of infinity could be finite in 4d mathematics. Cuz our discovery of mathematics is subjective principles that describe the universe from our perspective. Just like we would have a lot of time on our hands to read a 2d book, maybe the 5d time (duration) in the 4d world is exponentially slower and for every second of 5d time, a certain exponential function of 4d time in the 3d plane passes? and the 4d people would have way different mathematics concepts and a different concept of infinity which would be influenced by the 5d stuff in 4d. What if our universe is just the product of the creativity of 4d beings? What of we are a living breathing video game? Mind = blown lol

    I'm not going to say I understand all this now, but I will say that this is hands down the best explanation of this I've ever heard. Most explanations simply explain by analogy (by way of the relationship of the other dimensions) **why** understanding the fourth dimension is so difficult. And that may be true enough, but it doesn't so much explain anything much about the fourth dimension's nature, itself, other than it's incomprehensibility. This explanation actually makes some headway as to what it is like. I actually understand this on some (very basic) level.

    I think I got it.
    Viewing the fourth dimension is like using the King Crimson stand. You'd see the object's "timeline" extending towards the past and future.
    But you'd also see yourself extending in both directions as well, and be driven insane; since you couldn't see the fifth dimension, you'd see everything in a straight line; i.e., you'd only see one possible timeline and go crazy from the belief that you're not in control of your actions.
    Or maybe seeing yourself in 4D would make everything blurry all the time because you'd always change what you're about to do so you don't do exactly what you're seeing. I mean, what you see yourself about to do. I mean, what you see yourself doing in the future. So your timeline would be changing all the time due to your effect upon it. I mean... what the fuck am I talking about?

      I think the 4th is you'll be able to see a timeline of your life and all possible outcomes from a 3rd person view or a diffrent view. Instead of moving left or right, up or down. You'll move through space. From event to event
      3rd dimension: you pick up a flower. You then think in your head should i throw the flower away or should i keep it. You then make a action
      4th dimension: you see a time line of yourself picking up a flower and branching timeline of yourself. One of the branching timelines you see yourself throwing a flower away.
      Instead of u making a action like, swinging your arm up to throw the flower out of the palm of your hand, you make a action by picking the option from the slide show timeline to throw it away.
      Shit i never did anything like this but just a guess? What y'all think?

    He claims the accepted definition of anti-matter is "matter moving backwards through time".....I was under the impression anti-matter is identical to matter, except the charges are reversed...the hydrogen atom consists of a proton and electron, whereas anti-hydrogen consists of an anti-proton and a positron....exactly the same as the "normal" hydrogen other than the reversed positive and negative charges.....or perhaps I have misunderstood....

    • @10thdim

      +NellyBoy 86.0 I wasn't aware of that concept until I read it in physicist Michio Kaku's books - for example, here's an exact quote from page 281 of the hard cover copy of his Physics of the Impossible: "Antimatter corresponds to ordinary matter going backward in time."

    • @nellyboy86.02
      @nellyboy86.02 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And yet cern can produce particles of anti-matter which do not move backwards in time but forward.....or already the same way we go with causality in that the particle is created and 30 seconds later it is with the physicists 30 seconds from that point "forward" into what we would all agree is the future from the point of the creation of the particles....they do not move 30 seconds into what we would call the past or "backwards" in time....the cause is the creation the effect is the particle and effect comes after cause and moves what we would call "forward" temporally.....but again perhaps I have misunderstood or can't grasp the concept, I am aware of kakus work and own several of his volumes, I will refer to that quote you point out, thankyou, your series of videos are interesting and while I don't agree with all you say much is enlightening particular the point-line-plane postulate....I had not considered that before, thanks for your videos they are certainly an interesting way of thinking about things and certainly do help to clarify the issues with trying to picture or imagine the concept of higher dimensional hyper space :)

      In truth we are in x^infinity dimensions it's just that we can only perceive x^3 spacial dimensions due to depth perception for we only see in x^2 spacial dimensions. When you try to visualize 4d or higher it will just give you a headache so try not to geometrically visualize it. However, mathematically it is quite simple. If we say that a 1D spacial object is represented by coordinates that have the property that when there are more than one they are all orthogonal or perpendicular to each other then a 1D object would like like this: p1{x} then a 2D object p2 {x,y} ... p3 {x,y,z} ... p4{x,y,z,w} ... p5{x,y,z,w,v} ... p6{ x, y, z, w, v, u } ... etc ... pN{x,y,z, ... , N-2, N-1, N} where N approaches infinity. There is nothing stopping you from having a vector that is pN where N approaches +infinity.
      However, the hardest part to realize or imagine within this ND system is that for every N component or coordinate in the D system, each and everyone is orthogonal to every other one! It's kind of like visualizing every single radius within a circle, you can not because there are an infinite amount of them, just as there are an infinite amount of points on a line or line segment, just as there are an infinite amount of lines within a geometrical shape or 2D plane, just as there are an infinite amount of geometrical shapes or planes within a 3D geometrical volume and so on...
      It seems like a conundrum or even a paradox but in truth, space is both empty and full simultaneously. Objects appear to be there, but in truth, it is only energy. Everything is energy and everything is in motion. It's just the type of wave motions that we encounter along with their frequencies, amplitudes, and periodicity, as well as their wave convergence or interference, determine what we experience or observe. Wave motion can be both constructive and destructive to other waves. Kind of like in music, you have soft melodies, rhythmic harmonies, and ugly sounding dissonance or distortions. Light is similar that it can be modeled after a wave as the motion of photons can be interpreted as a wave motion in general but due to the nature of light and its rapid velocity, we consider it to be more of a ray than a sinusoidal like that of sound.

      @L K There isn't much about mathematics and physics that I don't understand and I don't always believe everything we were forced fed to learn from school textbooks! I'm a very critical thinker, I love challenges and puzzles, and I can recognize patterns fairly easy. I have very good spacial skills, for example, need to pack a moving van or fill a room with a bunch of stuff, I can tightly pack them based on their shapes, sizes, volumes, and weights of the objects.
      There are things in mathematics that I understand that most would throw out as if it was a contradiction. A good example is that of a vertical slope being undefined due to division by 0 within the denominator of the fraction to the slope equation. But I beg to differ! I challenge everything!
      We know that linear equations have the form of y = mx+b where m is the slope and the slope m is defined by rise/run. This is division, but we can't think of them as numbers directly. The rise over the run is more of a ratio proportion of the displacement in y in contrast to the displacement in x. The coordinate formula is (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x2). We can rewrite this as dy/dx. Does that look familiar to you? It is a differential that you would see in calculus. Rate of Change. Also if you take the line y = x and plot it, you will get a diagonal line that rises evenly toward the right increasing in the 1st quadrant. We know that it passes through the origin because the y-intercept (b) is 0. We also know that the slope has a value of 1 because m is not present. If we look at the angle that is above the horizontal x-axis and below this line, we know that this is a 45 degree or PI/4 angle. With this knowledge, we can also represent slope m (rise/run) as sin(t)/cos(t) which is also tan(t) where t (theta) is that angle. This is valid since sin(45)/cos(45) = 1 and tan(45) = 1.
      When we have no slope, there is 0 change in height or y, but we have constant change in x. This can be seen by sin(0)/cos(0) = 0/1. When we have a vertical slope that is 90 degrees and perpendicular to the x-axis we are taught that it is undefined due to division by 0 which can be seen by sin(90)/cos(90) = 1/0. And mathematicians' heads explode because it's undefined...
      Like I was saying, we can not treat this as a fraction or division directly, we have to treat it indirectly and treat it more like a ratio proportion. In this case, we have constant change in height or y and 0 change in x. If we approach this with limits, we know that the sine and cosine functions have the same domain and range, their domain is the set of all numbers (not just real, but complex too) and their basic range is [-1,1].
      We also know that these two functions are a 90 degree or PI/2 radian horizontal translation of each other. These two functions are also orthogonal and perpendicular to each other.
      If we examine the limits of these two functions as we rotate a line or vector from the +horizontal x in a CCW(counter-clockwise) direction the limits of both functions exist at every single point of rotation including at 90 and 270 degrees.
      Because of cos(90) = 0 and being in the denominator the tangent is undefined. I believe that it shouldn't be. We use vertical asymptotes at every PI/2 + PI*N. Instead of thinking of this as undefined, we have to consider how the sine and cosine are related to the tangent function and how the tangent is defined through triangles and not the unit circle.
      A triangle has 3 vectors that create 3 vertices with 3 interior angles, and the tangent function is based on a 90-degree right triangle. We already have one 90-degree angle, so when we apply 90 degrees to one of the other interior angles, what happens here is that the other angle that becomes 90 causes that third vector the hypotenuse to become parallel with one of the other sides. So now you have two lines that are parallel with another line intersecting both of them that is also perpendicular, orthogonal to them. We no longer have a triangle... Also, we know that a tangent line touches a curve at only a single point otherwise it is a secant line.
      I like to think of vertical slope or division by 0 to be +/-infinity. If the direction is known or implied then it is either + or - infinity, if it is not known then it is just simply |+/-infinity| +/- |+/-infinity| as we just don't know which direction the vector is pointing. So it could be both... So for me division by 0 when the numerator is not 0 could be 0,+/-infinity. Then again when you have multiple possible outcomes, it doesn't satisfy the 1:1 input to output ratio of a function. Then again the Pythagorean Theorem and the Equation of the Unit Circle Centered at the origin are basically the same things: A^2 + B2^ = C^2 and X^2 + Y^2 = r^2 it's just that one is in relation to right triangles and the other the unit circle and these both produce multiple outputs from single inputs just as the quadratic equation as they are all related!
      All of this algebra, geometry, trigonometry and even calculus including vectors and matrices are all built of the act of performing the addition operator which is a 1D linear transformation, specifically a linear translation of the unit vector to itself through the first and simplest of all expressions: (1+1). And this leads to the first full equation (1+1) = 2. If we look at the unit circle and look at the vector which is defined by the points O+A, where O is (0,0) and A is (1,0) and we look at the vector that is defined by O-A (0,0) and (-1,0) and we look at the addition of these two vectors only concerning their magnitudes: || + || we end up with |1| + |-1| = 2. If we look at the addition of these two vectors in general where their directions are implied we have: + ending up with + = 0. As their combined directions being opposite of each other signifies that they are either pointing away from the origin or towards it. This dual meaning is why the origin is the point of rotation, reflection, and symmetry.
      The equation 1+1 = 2, even the expression (1+1) has rotation, reflection and perfect symmetry embedded within it. Also when you apply the addition operation which is a 1D transformation without even realizing it you are performing every other dimensional transformation. 1+1 = 2. Which is also 1+2 = 2 which is also 2^1 = 2... So just by adding one to itself, we have introduced multiplication which is both a 1D translation (skewing, stretching or magnification) and a 2D translation of Rotation which is able to give you angles and area. And we also introduced powers or exponentiation which is also a 1D, 2D, and 3D transformation. As we have seen earlier, y=mx+b being a linear 1D equation and the simple form being y = x. Let's convert this to a function: f(x) = x. We know that this is also f(x) = x^1. We have a polynomial of a single term with its order of exponentiation being 1. Let's increment the exponent into a series. Sum F(x^(n+i)) where N = 1 and i = 0, increment i for each (e) in F(). {0, x, x^2, x^3, x^4, x^5, ... x^n} and this is the list of all polynomials. And as you can see when you traverse this list to the right, the next one is the integration of the previous and when you traverse it to the left, the next one is its derivative. And for each value or weight of the exponent that itself represents which spacial dimension you are in. All because 1+1 = 2.
      This is the ability to count, or enumerate, to add, to translate, to move! You can not have mathematics without physics! And you can not have physics without mathematics. They go hand in hand with each other! I'm referring to basic Vector Calculus-Based Classica Newtonian Physics for starters. Now if you want to dive into Modern Physics with Relativity, Quantum Mechanics and such, then you would have to include Chemistry, the complex numbers, probability, statistics, logic, number and group theory... But still, even these complex systems are still rooted in 1+1!

    This is a great video. I find the 4th dimension to be overlooked numerous times, leading to what this video describes very well, a shaky foundation for the rest. I like the idea of distinguishing temporal and spatial dimensions, even though they intertwine.

      Thanks! With the dimensions we’re talking about here, we are using the logic of the point line plane postulate, which is the accepted way to visualize any number of spatial dimensions. You and I have a unique viewpoint because our atoms and molecules are embedded within the third dimension. That means if we are imagining additional dimensions and how they relate to the universe we are within, that 3D anchor must always be kept in mind. This is where some of the confusion between what is a spatial and what is a temporal dimension arises, because we can’t physically break free from that 3D membrane we are part of. Ultimately I insist that all these dimensions are spatial, and any temporal qualities we observe within these dimensions is because of our uniquely limited one-Planck-Frame-at-a-time window into the dimensions beyond the third.

      10thdim Very well said. This subject hurts my brain and it's the very reason I find it one of the most fascinating of thoughts.
      I find this to be my personal fav way of breaking it down...
      "We can begin with nothingness. A singularity a point. An everything and nothing.
      0D.
      We then think of this point as not a singularity. But a slice of stacks of points.
      When we look at the stacks from further away we see a line, a string, a link, a connection.
      1D. Since this is the first event. I prefer attributing the first temporal dimension here.
      This line is only a slice of a plane. A plane is stacked lines. They aren't overlapping, they are adjacent to one another in the next dimension.
      2D.
      We the take this stacked-line and look at it from further away. It creates a plane. A shape that exists in only two dimensions. Backing out again we see the plane is only a slice of a cube. The planes don't overlapped but rather are adjacent to one another in the next dimension, 3D.
      Now for the tricky bit. We take the cube and back out. Only to realize the cube is a slice of a foreign shape we are limited from seeing or feeling. It is a shape that is composed of stacked 3-dimensions. They aren't overlapping but are adjacent to one another in the next dimension, 4D.
      Continuing this pattern we arrive to a point once more. A singularity. A point containing all stacks of imaginable stacks. But maybe it's only the 1st dimension of a whole we cannot understand. Something far too deep in nature's geometry for us to see the surface.
      (The quantum world may be so much more complex than we can imagine. But we will never see it's full shape, only a slice.)
      :D

      Facing mirrors together will give you an infinite number of "3d planes", but you'll not be seeing them instantaneously: there will be a really really short time gap between each reflection, so you can to a certain point see yourself in the past, further and further away. But the difference in time between each reflection is so tiny that we can't really notice it, unless we observe waaaaaaaaay into those reflections. Not sure if I got it right, it's hard to stop seeing time the way you've always seen it.

    For everyone confused: here's what I think he means...
    So the first dimension is basically dots at the plank length, (the shortest anything can be) and the second dimension is made of those dots to form lines. Now, if you put those lines together, you get the third dimension. Seeing the third dimension is incomprehensible for us, as we see from the second dimension.
    By seeing from the third dimension, we could see an object at every position all the time. So as we see so far, all the dimensions make each other up. One dimension is used to make another possible, and so on and so forth. I'm guessing the higher the dimensions, the more necessary, because in order to even see a lower dimension than time, you'd need it on order to be able to process it. Well, at least from our POV.
    Basically, the fourth dimension is just like the other three, but our brains see it as a passage of time, so it's hard for us to fathom. Just as the first position in different positions makes the second dimension, and the second position in different positions makes the third dimension, the third dimension in different positions makes the fourth dimension, so as you can see, the possibilities of position get almost impossibly different from dimension to dimension. Like, not even exponential. Like as if every single time you got exponential, all of those dots would be exponential, and for the second, all those would be, and third all those would be, and fourth, all those would be. Nothing is "happening" like we see it. It's just positions being changed from one state to another.
    To recap: If you take a point, you're in the first dimension. Take a point outside of that point and you get the second dimension. Connect those, and take a point outside of the second dimension to make the third. Now taking a point outside the third dimension and connecting it is space. We can't see time, because it is OUTSIDE our dimension. Just like a second dimensional being can't imagine what the third dimension looks like. Kinda see what I mean now??
    Hope this cleared things up

    • @kilat1791
      @kilat1791 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The first dimension is a line, not a dot. To be exact, 1D is a string made up of infinite amount of dots. 0D is the dot that has no dimension and this is known in science as singularity. Everything comes form singularity hence 0D is where reality starts. 1D is basically a string with no width or depth and this is where we get the idea of String Theory. When that string vibrates back and forth, 2D is created and vibrating in a circular motion, similar to a jump rope, creates the 3D particles that makes up our physical universe.
      Using the previous logic, 3D is a dot and 4D is a line. The illusion of time is produce similar to a flipbook. Our perspective is locked into 3D and can only see one 3D instance at a time and as our perspective quickly moves through that 4D line, it creates time like a flipbook. If we are to exist outside of that 4D line, we would see our past and future at the same time and you will literally see yourself at different points in time.

      because this is kinda bullshit. he uses quite a bit of good description, but sprinkles some BS in there.
      bottomline is that we still need a model to accurately describe space and time. we have plenty of usable approximation models that work pretty well for certain problems, but we have no model that can explain what happens at super small distances, very small time lengths or very energetic environments (like the Big Bang).
      just expressing space in a Euclidian way and stating time occurs in Planck frames, while abusing the concept of time reversal symmetry (the 2nd Law and Weak Interaction have something to say about TRS) are not honest ways to 'solve' the spacetime model problem.
      basically, if it were as easy as this dude portays it then this approach would have been adopted back in the 1930's or 1940's. much better and more subtle models have failed to accurately predict reality.

    • @gumbilicious1
      @gumbilicious1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LegendByGod he is simplifying the concept of the time dimension.
      planck time, it is considered the shortest possible length of time that can be measured. the concept of time breaks down in lengths of time shorter than the planck time (at least without a much needed new theory called a quantum gravity theory).
      his assertion is the universe is like a shutter effect, time progressing as snapshots separated by planck time lengths. from what i gather, too much is assumed [and not supported by anything] if you take this approach to the progression of time.
      beyond that, this concept does not incorporate any actual physics into it. it is not a model of space time like Minkowski space that is actually Loorentz invariant (physics mumbo jumbo). but this is the [simplest] type of things a model of space and time must do, he just doesn't incorporate any of that into his ideas.
      time reversal symmetry, means all physics is still legitimate if you were to run a clock backward. it's more subtle than that really but that is the gist. he states this as "it is possible to maintain causality in time's reverse direction". this is actually not strictly true, it is true in limited classical sense but not all physics observes TRS.
      in particular the "accepted definition of anti-matter is matter moving backward in time". this concept had been made popular when Richard Feynman made a quote about it at one time. how positrons can be described as electrons moving backward in time (and repeated often, because it makes an awesome quote).
      this is far from an accepted definition (even though it is a favored quotable phrase about anti-matter). beyond that, not all physics is symmetric ('the same') if you reverse time. there are parts of the weak interaction or thermodynamics that won't hold up under time reversal symmetry.
      any theory stating that time is the same forward or backward should at least address these factors (and there are more out there as well). well i'd also want them to address, in a more than philosophical way, why we only experience time in one direction as well. and they'd have to provide more evidence than 'anti-matter is matter moving backward through time', cuz that is not evidence, that is just a bad quote.

    Considering time as the 4th dimension is a break in mathematical logic. What we generally define as dimensions are Euclidean spaces. The 4th dimension would then be modeled by incorporating a coordinate system comprising of four orthogonal vectors from the origin in R4. This is where the hypercube/tesseract comes from, making an object that forms a basis in R4 projected to the 3rd dimension (R3).
