    You look so comfortable in that ELR. Now that they are available at much lower prices, treat yourself by buying one. Your friend making the car sounds could be the Cargasm intro.

  • @Mirandur

    In my country, this would have been called a Hybrid car, as long as there is a fossil fuel engine in it; regardless of if the fuel engine is part of the drive train or not. And it would probably be twice the price, as cars with any kind of fossil fuel engine is taxed to hell and back.
    Really liked this video, keep 'em coming!

    Jerry, you did a better job explaining the cars features than a lot of salesmen that I've dealt with. I work at a Ford dealer and get to see all the cool new technology Ford is coming out with but don't get to see some of the other brands stuff. Last week I worked on a 2017 F-450 that had massaging front seats. Nice video, definitely looking forward to more reviews!

  • @revealingfacts4all

    I worked on the CUE software in that vehicle. the dash is running a custom Linux. I also was the guy who developed the software that responded to the buttons on steering wheel used to navigate the HMI. Those buttons are on an automotive network bus called a LIN bus. The cluster communicates with OnStar and the center stack over CAN bus. All the multimedia in the vehicle runs on a MOST network which is another automotive communication network.

    It's a shame that I don't live close to you, I'd stick you in my GTO. You'd be bored senseless in the tech department, but the 525hp and upgraded suspension makes up for that. Half the time, I don't even have the radio on, because the engine makes such wonderful sounds. Of course you'd never be able to get back in your tiny, underpowered cars and have a smile on your face, ever again. There's something very, very cool about doing a burnout through the entire first half of your gearbox, leaving a trail of tire smoke behind you that's so thick it looks like a scooby doo mystery fog scene (which we all knew was Shaggy's weed smoke...they weren't hiding anything).
    The features of the GTO are...big engine, transmission, steering wheel, tires, seat and gas pedal. That's it. But that's really all you need (brakes, GPS and cup holders are for sissies). :)

    We need to hack the audio system to produce engine sounds when in sport mode! CodeGasm!

    • @BigMan7o0
      @BigMan7o0 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Thing best part, you pick the car it sounds like. you could have a Cadillac that sounds like a Ferrari or lambo.

    • @revealingfacts4all
      @revealingfacts4all 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Thing not really possible. the audio in that car is based on a MOST network. the tuner, amplifier, onstar all talk over a MOST bus which is a ring topology. the moment you break the ring, the entire bus goes down. hacking the software that talks on the ring would be near impossible. MOST is wildly complicated. you allocate a slot when you need to stream audio and audio is sent to an IC chip called an INIC. you talk to the INIC over a combination of i2c and i2s. i2c is used to command the chip and i2s is used to stream audio after allocating and being granted the audio channel. GM has a number of virtual audio channels defined for things like chimes and regular audio so then can, for example, play a chime over music to alert you to something. anyway, there's a lot going on... not easily hacked or modifiable. I worked on this system.

    GOOD VIDEO. Not to be negative, BUT could you tie this channel in with your main channel/make it more apparent? I'd like to see this channel(Cargasm) under a brighter spotlight, to get the attention it deserves. Things like putting it in the recommended area on your youtube frontpage would be great. I just worry for the average viewer, because they aren't going to know this channel exists unless they are a big fan(or stalk you on your front lawn). And again, great video!

    I do need to chuckle...Why do you need to "Engage" regenerative braking? My car does that automatically...mine also has Adaptive Cruise, Heated seats/steering wheel, my voice control works better (though I agree, it's STILL very clunky), my seats are leather and comfy, my steering wheel tilts as well as telescopes, etc. Oh...and I paid less than half. Granted, mine is just a hybrid, and doesn't have "Cadillac" label...but mine is domestic, and it gets me 720 miles on a tank of gas when it's warm out...but about 600 when it's cold. Not really knocking the Caddy, but wow, much of that tech is now available in non luxury cars. Nice job though Jerry...Keep up the good work!!!

    Caddy didn't have the balls to do a full electric ELR - a bunch of old men without the guts to do anything new that isn't on an existing platform. Had they done an EV ELR, Tesla would be bankrupt today.

    • @Cargasm

    • @piccolo181
      @piccolo181 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I concur, but keep in mind up until fairly recently Cadillac was the most conservative brand in the GM lineup. They made v8 powered street yachts for the affluent and geriatric for 56 years (De Ville 1949-2005). The fact that GM's flagship luxury line has an EV-hybrid at all is astounding.

    Wow I remember when you first posted this one up on your other channel. I went to go and look up the car again cause I thought it was expensive then. Funny to find out that Cadillac/Chevy wanted to make up there money on the volt by adding $40,000 to the price tag of the ELR. They ended production in Feb of this year, funny how greed bites you in the ass every time. Really too bad, great looking, bad ass electric car!!! That's why I drive Fords, they did not need a bailout. Cadillac needs to learn something here, but they won't.

    By the way. Claiming to save money from the gas engine not running is actually a fault. The motor should be turned on every day if possible to maintain fluids moving around and the oil doesn’t start breaking down via degradation.
    You think your saving money with later oil changes but all you’re doing is harming the components that are designed to run and be used.
    Good thing you’re not an engineer!

    Wonder how long it'll take car manufacturers to make their in-car systems run on a changeable processor module? That way, when something with more CPU or GPU power is made, they can offer it as an 10-minute upgrade to older vehicles - these systems have always performed like a 3-year old cheap $69 chinese tablet :-) Tech is outdated in 1-3 years, so you could potentially have 3 or more upgrades during the vehicle's life.

    • @LETHALF90
      @LETHALF90 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darren Coull forget old vehicles.

    • @DarrenCoull
      @DarrenCoull 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How old is old though? This tech seems to be designed during the car's design and testing phase, sometimes years before launch. So when it comes out, the tech is already outdated. A common modular system would enable manufacturers to plug in the latest tech on the day of launch, so everyone wins. I think you will find that a lot of people either keep their cars for 5 years or more, or the 2nd owner is just as interested in keeping it 'fresh' - most cars are good for 10 years mechanically, so makes sense, and wuold also help the 3rd party accessory manufacturers that may want to offer something premium over the factory setup.
