Just purchased a 2014 ELR (66K miles) 2 months ago and the response from people is very positive. A great upgrade from my 2014 VOLT (147K mi.). It rides nicer but does not accelerate like the VOLT.
The most beautiful Caddy ever made in my humble opinion. I was actually invited to the NYC unveiling because I was going to buy one until I found out the price. If GM came with a base model starting at 50K there would be hundreds of thousands in garages today,
I've been driving an ELR every day for almost 3 years. Nearly all my commute is on electric. My electric is cheap and I get free charges when I can. I got mine with 32,000 miles for less than 25% of the sticker price. It's a good way to relax in bad traffic because it just is a chill drive. Active noise cancellation helps.
what is a wall charger? I thought the AC charging was done on board with the charge module? Is this the EVSE/Wall connector or some thing external that does rectification from AC to DC?
the wall charger just adapts wall to car, you are correct the ac to dc happens in the cars module but it also communicates with the wall charger for various reasons but im not sure of the fine details
@@jonathanp1884 So the whole battery needing replacement at like 7 to 10 years was the determining factor for me not to get one cause I heard they re like $15k to replace...
I have one got it for $32,000 in 2018.. put 230,000 miles on it. Info scream will probably need replacing.. get new rims right away those aluminum ones will crack and bend causing you to need fixing and replacement tires frequently.. I got niche rims.. cheap and very well made. Maintenance is cheap. Nothing crazy... shocked it's still running, but it is..... you will get looks and compliments all the time... and I mean all the damn time.
Beautiful car, too bad it didn’t work out. I did hear one reviewer comment that the gas engine sounded like a “rusty chainsaw”! Was this your experience??
Great content; well produced and witty writing! "No, hold mode won't hold you any closer". LOL! 🎶 As Elton John sang, "Hold me closer Tony Danza..." 🎶 I use "hold mode" all the time for 10 yrs in my now 150k mi Volt to optimize range. As far as I've seen this is the most well-engineered drivetrain on any car I've ever seen and it's sad that GM couldn't market these properly to communicate its benefits, besides your valid point about pricing. Seen nothing as good on the market since they were discontinued.
So i alwasy wanted one of this and i been checking out prices recently and $17,500+ with 90,000 miles sounds like a steal now. Would yiu recoment getting it?
absolutely! Id make sure its had the ev battery replaced or get some kind of extended warranty that for sure covers the ev battery. Outside of that they are generally reliable and ive not seen many major failures.
Have 10-20k saved for battery replacement and other fixes. Ive seen between 15-20k and read of 2 guys who purchased around that price and within 300 miles had to replaced battery quoted at 20k. But im pretty sure u can find refurbished around 10k or new 15k non-dealership. Used hybrid/electric cars is rarely a great buy because of this.
Yeah at this point all of them are going out of their voltec tech warranty, so unless you can get some kind of extended warranty for the battery, I think it would be a gamble
The Cadillac ELR is the most gorgeous Cadillac of the last 50 years, and one of the most beautifully-styled vehicles of all time.
Yup
Agreed.

That $75k original purchase price turned off a lot of folks!
Between the shared dash and styling, it always felt like the next gen CTS coupe to me.
Its the motorized cup holder cover that gives it away
What a crazy car. A FWD, 2 door, hybrid, beam axle rear end that weights 4000 lbs and has huge wheels.
The fuuuuuture
I have a 2016 ELR. It’s one of the best Cadillacs I ever owned. Very well done video
From my experience working on Cadillacs, theyve been good cars
Those are hard to find. I settled with a 2014 two months ago, 66K miles.

@@TreadDepthChannel meh. I'd rather replace a hybrid cell than a timing belt.
What year ELR do you have ?
@@OhioBoneThugz 2014
It's an awesome car, we never had this in Germany. I never heard of the active noise cancelation
In Canada less than 300 were sold in it's entire model run. Just seeing one in RL is a feat - a real unicorn.
Certified unicorn
One of the best looking modern cars in the best 20 years.
It certainly is sharp 🔥
And it is 12 years old.
@@jonathanp1884 yes it is. But the price reflects its popularity
I never realized these were electric vehicles..... Man they look so sporty. Almost like a baby ATS
Its funny cause i always say the 2.5 ats is the slowest Cadillac because it feels slower than this, but that punch off the line really fools you
"A baby ATS???" That's hilarious. The ELR is far superior to an ATS.
Imma say it, the ELR is the best looking car Cadillac has ever made
It certainly is striking
The 2014 CTS coupe is also a winner. These cars will be collectibles in 20 years.
@WillieFungo people are going to talk about how their granddad owned one
Great video👍 somehow I never heard of this model, I think it's great looking, love the proportions
It sure is a looker
Thanks for the video. Love my ELR.
How are maintenance and repair costs?
"We do have some place called Mount Dora." Hey! We're at 190 feet above sea level out here. The air is thin, but we survive. :D

Its a darn good car, specially because it was already built on a proven chassis
Whats the mpg on gas after electric runs out?
Beautiful car, too bad it didn’t work out. I did hear one reviewer comment that the gas engine sounded like a “rusty chainsaw”! Was this your experience??
Its not a pleasant sound, worse than a cvt because it just stays at a constant rpm with no change, well barely change because it has specific rpms
It has it's con's but it is by far the best looking design from Cadillac.
They really went all out
It's the best looking Cadillac ever to me..
I've never cared for any of them. Other than the other coupe that this one looks like
The ELR drives like a Cadillac, and handles like a Camaro.
With visibility like a Camaro convertible.
The rear seating area is just for storage.

I've always wanted one. The price is just never quite right though
Hi thanks for the video. Is this car’s default mode set to run solely on electric until it runs out and then switches to gas powered?
Yes, unless you put it in hold mode it runs on 100% electric till it runs out of charge then the gas motor runs to charge the battery
@@TreadDepthChannel Can you leave it in hold mode all the time? I was wondering what the gas milage ends up being on a full tank in hold mode.
