Exploring the Iosepa (pronounced Yo-see-pa) Ghost Town

  • In this video, we spend the day exploring the Iosepa (pronounced Yo-see-pa) ghost town. This town has a very unique Utah history. This history includes why this town was established, the hardships of the residents, and the triumphs. The Polynesian settlers overcame this harsh environment and turned this desert location into a place with crops, and livestock. This was possible because of the miles of irrigation canals that were constructed by the settlers to bring water to this stark area. In 1911 the town won an award as “the most progressive city in Utah", and just six years later, the town was abandoned, with only a few residents remaining.

    Yo- Sep- uh (Sep like September) I've been going since I was young. My grandfather in buried in the cemetery. Thank you for being respectful, also mad respect for making the trek.
