I'm not an expert about the sweat lodge tradition, but have lived in Minnesota, northern, for a few years. I could tell if it was a Wednesday or a Saturday by the saunas being fired up. I built one, looked like an fishing shack for frozen lakes. That was my 'chief' preamble. So from what I remember, a sauna is pretty dry, heat, not much moisture, but that is optional. We just had pretty much dry heat, so it was not analogous to a steam room, which seems more like the sweat lodge experience.
In a kind and gentle way m I am telling you to open your ears and listen to what the grandfathers can teach you --- Learn why there are 7 grandpas for each of the 4 rounds --- Learn why when you go in on your hands and knees you say "All my relations" --- You sing , you pray , you sweat ... not just sit around and talk --- I got bout that much to say fur now ---
Gabriel, It is apparent that you have no understanding of what your talking about and it's something no one should do just because they want to. A Sweatlodge is an undertaking that takes years to earn the right to do and then many more years sitting and learning with Elders. It not something one does just because you think it might be a fun experience. It is not a toy to be played with or a form of entertainment so that one can have an experience. As we seen in Sedona people lost their lives because of James Author Ray thought he could simply build one and then conduct the Lodge. It is not a game. And we DO NOT go inside naked!
I advise you NOT to build a lodge. You don't have the authorization to build one and this authorization does NOT come from Man. Already, your description of a lodge is Wrong ... IT IS NOT similar to a sauna Ok !
I did a sweat lodge with my father, step-father, uncle, my grandfather and a shaman when I was 20. Set me up for my journey and healing process.
