So when you turn off photogrammetry you have to restart the game? That sucks since it takes a good 5 minutes to get back into the sim. Seems to me that this game is better if you are a high flyer. It certainly isn't made for walking around
@@HowBigistheMap So for low ground flying and walking: Turn it off and restart the sim, then for high altitude, turn it on and restart the sim. Seems very impractical as a solution. They really need to fix this. It's nice being able to see the Millennium Eye up close with lots of detail, but not when it's surrounded by melted buildings and trees made out of single polygons.
Since I'm mostly flying in a Flight Simulator I'm not bothered at all with the Photogrammetry, actually I'm glad it exists as it makes for the most realistic looking cities ever as long as you stay in the air. But thanks for the tip.
Well, it does exactly what it's meant to do and enables photogrammetry. What you see when it's enabled is the scanned 3D geometry and images of the real world buildings. When it's off you are instead seeing generic placeholder buildings which do not really match the shape or appearance of the real thing.
Thank you for taking the time to post this, it's very helpful. I enjoy flying helicopters and low level aircraft like the Jetson in VR so this will massively improve my enjoyment of the sim'. I've subscribed to your channel in the hope of more quick tips like this.
You know what? You are right and I never even thought about this. I always leave photogrammetry on. That said, your simple comparisons show that both on and off is great. Example, I make videos so when I land and walk around I may switch it off at ground level. Then once above say 2000ft, switch it back on. In fact, a giant building spawns on the entire parking area at Trent Lott Int (KPQL) that shouldn't be there. I'm thinking with photogrammetry off, it probably won't be there, so I need to try that. Thanks for sharing this info.
Sorry, but this so called solution we now have known for the past 4 years, because we have the same issue also in MSFS 2020 since its launch. But switching off photogrammetry means your sim will look like FSX used to ook 25 years ago. So that's no solution at all. The real solution is get a better PC and/or lower your sim settings (not talking about photogrammetry) and/or uograde to a faster internet connection with more bandwith.
I didnt buy msfs24 to walk around cities at street level. For mainly GA flight at up to 3000ft what looks best and is there a hit on frame rate? This could be useful information. I'm going to have to try it now...
It's serverside and not to do with the in game settings. It depends on your allocated bandwidth and rolling cache. I put rolling cache as 100gb and have never had blocky textures like that.
@@bennyboypolo put my cache at 120 gig did squat for blocky textures and stalagmites popping up everywhere thx anyhoo, but gotta have photogrammetry on for the beautiful mountains so I stay outta cities for now
You have to start the game all over. I mean, really quit the game and go into your game again to make this work. The melted buildings and blocky trees will be gone.
Glad you showed this. The Photogrammetry was why I was hesitant to get this game because the ground level videos I'd seen previously looked like Google Earth VR. When you're walking around Google Earth VR, it feels like you're the last person on earth after an apocalypse where some kind of alien weapon melted all the cars and buildings and cardboardized all the water. But was surprised to see your walks because the scenery was so detailed. I mean there's still an uncanny valley, Backrooms-ish monotony to the AI generated buildings, but it's leagues better than wandering what feels like a paper mache model of earth. It'll be amazing if they can improve the AI generation one day to where we get GTA V level of details. Maybe MSFS 2034...
I think it's better to put the photogrammtery on when you're flying (high), but when you want to take a walk through cities you should switch it off. But hey, who wants to walk in a flight simulator?
All well and good but you do not explain the fundamental reason for the failure of photogrammetry at low altitudes/ close up. Its this lack of understanding that has allowed Microsoft to make suck exaggerated claims about their aerial-photo tech. We all fell for it and many many have spent hours and $$$$$ trying to fix their computers or update their graphic cards. Yes the fix is to turn off photogrammetry for low altitudes but not really a fix is it!

I'll give FS2024 one thing, for a "flight simulator", it sure does an awesome job of simulating giraffes and deer. The truth is MSFS2024 is an utter bug-ridden disgrace. From the disastrous launch, when they should have known about server loads, to the hundreds and hundreds of bugs in the program. Airports missing terminals, entire airports missing, airborne jetways, aircraft with wings missing, avatars hanging upside down out of flying aircraft, blurry terrain, CTDs etc etc. It's utterly pathetic. They rushed it out and they knew it wasn't ready. It's going to take at least a full year before it's even close to fixed, if ever. If you're wondering who the beta testers are, it's the people who bought this joke of a program. I got a refund as I won't reward their incompetence and I won't pay for the privilege of being a beta-tester. And yet you'll find fanboys on the forums and in the comments section who defend this pile of garbage !
You said: "They rushed it out and they knew it wasn't ready." And unfortunately that happens to a lot of game these days. Then they come with patches and more patches...
Man, this is not a fix. You apply a fix when something is broken. In this case using photogrametry is the way the game is meant to be played. So, if you play a game with ray tracing on and you get poor fps, would you say that a fix for that problem is disabling ray tracing?

From a high stand point of view it’s true that it changes eveything. But from the ground, with photogrametry off, it’s just no more Paris ;)
Well, it's a start. I think they will improve everything with patches or maybe in a new Flight Simulator.

Thansk for the sub! Even though I don't make many tips-videos. Most of the time I walk across maps. :)
We need a keypress or an automatic way to switch on or off with altitude change.
Yes. Because now we have to get out of the game and change this and then get into the game again. It's not really convenient.
Thank you very much, this correction of yours improved the simulator by 70%
Glad I could help.
