    That HG Gundam is as old as I am.

  • @CrimsonRaptors

    Hey Kakarot197+, this kit would not be produced anymore because the Steel Mold was broken. It wasn't a PR stunt or a way to increase the kit's value, because Bandai doesn't care about that.

    The manual and the kit's construction and details really show that Bandai back then put a little more heart and soul into presenting the kit.

    I would have loved this if I saw it in 1990, but I don't think I ever actually saw an HG before I stopped building. I built the F-90, and the no-grade 1:144 Ex-S, which were both from around the same time, but I don't remember ever laying eyes on an HG. Now HG is synonymous with "low-end," but at the time there was a reason it was called "high grade."

    • @sofiaciel7599
      @sofiaciel7599 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      lol. Low end as they may be these days, I still love HGUC kits. There's so many designs that you can't get at a larger scale or in RG form, and it's fun having to give the kits a bit more TLC to get them to look right.

  • @DevasiaMentalityGaming
    @DevasiaMentalityGaming 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    if you're not picky about it not being a model, the potential QC issues, and the likely markup this long after the fact... a ver Ka gundam does exist in 1/144 scale in the fix figuration line that can part swap to become a GM late production type.

    • @kakarot197
      @kakarot197  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the Jet Core Booster II, a slightly different design. While it's a nice design, it's molded in a single color and you can buy exactly 10 old 1/144 Jet Core Boosters for the price of the EX 1/144 Jet core Booster II.

  • @alexrodriguez9441
    @alexrodriguez9441 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I bought one in ‘92 and it suffered from catastrophic QC issues that reminded me of Takatoku’s 1/60 orguss toys. The hip joints and shoulders on the Gundam broke first, followed by all of the flat surfaces (thighs, chest) cracking. I had really bad luck with it. I painted it to look like a G3 color scheme, now the whole thing is in several pieces in a box, disintegrating.

    i have all the old System Injection HGs...including the ones from V Gundam...i have to say the system injection is a pretty impressive thing...dont really see the need for it as good as HGs are nowadays..i could see it having some application in some of the more color heavy Sds when they only give you stickers..makes the models super easy to build too when say the chest vents are already molded in the right color as part of the chest peice...

  • @BlitzkriegOmega

    Oh. umm. the reason the Wing/G/X kits were as cheap as they were was because Bandai was going through a rough patch in the homeland and...well...some quality was dumped to keep them afloat (ever wonder why everything from F91 to X was 14-16m instead of the 18-22m standard of the Early UC? Well. there ya go~

    I got mine on a Thrift store for equivalent to $6 (The store watcher think its just a scrap) I then got another one thought its already built from a Hobbies convention for equivalent to $4 (Again the clerk think its just an old robot toy) I used the Builders Parts HD MS Beam to replace the toothpick saber since there is an effect part with a hole and became the adapter for the beam blades
    PS I say equivalent because I lived in the Philippines

    • @kakarot197
      @kakarot197  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It was released quite a few years after the HGUC and from what I've seen it's more a downgrade than an upgrade. And on a personal level, I just really hate the proportions of that thing, so there's nothing that I like about the thing.
      For the Gundam hammer, I recommend the old weapon set as it includes both the regular Gundam Hammer and the Hyper Hammer.

  • @gmsloep
    @gmsloep 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There wasn't full weapons storage capability on the 1/144 scale RX-78-2 model kits after this one for twenty years.
    Let that sink in. Twenty. Years. They didn't do a 1/144 RX-78-2 with full weapons storage, or even a transforming Core Fighter, until the RealGrade. Even if I was to play devil's advocate and look at the Master Grades, the Ver. 2.0 was the first MG RX-78-2 to have full weapons storage, and that kit came out only two years prior to the RG.

  • @SicMetalMaggot4life
    @SicMetalMaggot4life 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A million years late to this party but I will say that waist swivels DID exist before this kit for 1/144 scale, notably the original (and quite fugly) Gelgoog from the original 1980 MSG line and the Zaku Kai from the War in the Pocket line, but those were definitely the exception rather than the rule. Frankly with how much of a pain in the ass constructing the Gelgoog is and how poor its articulation is, I think adding a waist joint honestly did that kit a disservice by overcomplicating its construction. But even still, this RX kit was revolutionary for its time with how it approached articulation, construction, and molding and is honestly my favorite 1/144 RX-78-2 kit, so its a damn shame the mold is broken so no reprints. In all the 40 years of Gunpla, I think this original line was the one that deserved the title "High Grade" the most honestly.
