    It’s time to look into the history of what I consider the oddball of the Spyro series, Spyro: A Hero’s Tail. Some people love it, some people hate it, and some people, like me, have mixed feelings about it. A Hero’s Tail had a different developer compared to previous games in the series. This time it was the turn of British developers Eurocom Entertainment Software, to come up with a fresh adventure for the plucky purple dragon. Eurocom had previously worked on titles such as Crash Bash, Disney’s Tarzan and 40 Winks to name a few, but they’ve developed so many games before and after A Hero’s Tail that I suggest you look them all up.
    Development of A Hero’s Tail began shortly after the release of its ill-fated predecessor, Enter the Dragonfly, and the game was ready to ship by November 2004, releasing on the 9th for the US and the 12th for Europe. This would be the first time a Spyro game would appear on the Xbox as well as the 2nd time on the PS2 and Gamecube. The developers were determined to make their own version of a Spyro game that would still fit into the series without being too farfetched, so while you will see old faces and mechanics from previous games, you’ll also see plenty of new characters and abilities.
    In terms of controlling Spyro, some commands are the same as previous games, others are new, and the rest will leave you scratching your head. Spyro starts off with some basic abilities and as he visits each Elder he’ll learn something new. Perhaps the biggest head scratcher most people talk about is the swapping of circle and square. Every game up to this point uses square to charge and circle to breath attack, but A Hero’s Tail wants to be different, and different apparently means mixing up the button commands. Needless to say I was caught out a few times at the beginning of the game, when I dashed off a platform instead of breathing fire on the nearby chests.
    Gliding’s been changed too but I kind of like it now; in previous games you’d press x to jump, x again to glide, then press triangle at the end of your jump to hover and gain more height. That was about the extent of your control while gliding, if you stopped midway you couldn’t start gliding again, and Spyro would fall to his death in most cases. In A Hero’s Tail Spyro learns the ability to double jump by pressing x and then x again but loses his hover ability, so you’re effectively gaining the height before you start gliding. Letting go of the x button will stop Spyro’s glide, but holding it down again will continue it.
    Spyro’s other mechanic is his various breath attacks - fire, electric, water and ice. Each breath can be selected by using the D Pad on the PS2 controller. I may as well mention the bomb ammo Spyro can pick up and spit as well. This ammo comes in 4 varieties just like Spyro’s breath attacks - fire bombs, ball lightnings, aqua bombs and ice missiles. They can be thrown by tapping R1, and thrown even further by holding down R1.
    Spyro isn’t the only character to play as in A Hero’s Tail; there’s Sparx the dragonfly, Hunter the Cheetah, Blink the Mole and Sgt Byrd the penguin. Everybody bar Hunter is involved in mini games and each mini game needs to be completed twice to collect all the available items, first for a dragon egg and then again for a Light Gem.
    A Hero’s Tail was the first Spyro game on main consoles that Stewart Copeland did not compose the music for. Instead that role went to British composers Steve Duckworth and Paul Lawler. The only two voice actors to return are Michael Gough reprising his role as Gnasty Gnorc as well as taking on the role of the Professor, and Andre Sogliuzzo returning to voice Sparx.
    A Hero’s Tail received mixed to positive reviews on release. One thing most critics unanimously agreed on was that it was definitely a step up from Enter the Dragonfly, and I concur. Whereas its predecessor felt rushed and sloppily made with glitches and bugs abound, A Hero’s Tail was an incredibly smooth game from start to finish. Movement and combat feels great, the voice acting isn’t bad, and the realms Spyro explores are gorgeous to look at.
    However some critics weren’t impressed with Eurocom’s lack of innovation, stating that nothing new had been brought to the game despite the developers trying to make their own unique mark on the series.
    To this day on gamerankings, the PS2 version of Spyro: A Hero’s Tail holds a 64.59% ranking based on 22 reviews.

      Saaaame! I love the humor. I felt like AHT was a commentary on the previous Spyro games in that way; it poked fun at the series while also fully embracing it. This is certainly the Spyro game I've replayed the most. Even the tricky Blink levels have begun to grow on me in my adult years. Younger me could never get past them haha

      I really enjoyed the game, I liked how they made the worlds seemless but wasn’t used to it at first after playing Spyro 1 on ps1. Grabbing ledges was a nice addition, moneybags shop was useless except for power ups and lockpicks, I still bought bombs just because they were fun to use and gave the game some variety. Blinx is forgettable and a waste of play time. I 100% the game on Xbox original but it felt like a chore and I don’t really want to do it again, whereas older Spyro games I would not mind playing again. Bosses were kinda laughable after figuring out Ursula’s wave sequences it was easy, but I side many times due to poor camera angles as well. Red was a pain and the red robot was pretty easy. I have yet to play the supposed worst games in the series.

      Toridori I've only played the first game of the trillogy, but it just feels off to me. Especially the control scheme. The heroe's tail control scheme makes sense to me, as most games in general follow a "default" control scheme, with circle/b being the mele or unarmed button (horns), and square/X as the "special" attack (breath weapon). Also the speedways feel weird to me, because Spyro is flying in them, yet doesn't fly in other parts of the game. It's still good, it just feels off to me. A heroes tail was also one of the first games I ever played, though, so it sort of helped to define how I see video games.

      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most people hate that set up in Spyro as they've been used to circle being fire and square being charge but I know what you mean. And it is always weird that Spyro goes through these other realms gliding everywhere, sometimes falling to his death, then he flies happily in the Speedways... it doesn't make sense! :O

    Ineptune becomes a ridiculously easy boss when you realize two things:
    - Her acid breath doesn’t reach across the entire arena, which means you can just wait it out on the opposite side of her
    - And bafflingly, you can stand ON TOP OF THE LASER SPINNERS. It can be a bit tricky to actually land on them, but once you do, you’re completely safe

    • @ToridoriGaming

      Speaking of bosses becoming easy, the third boss Red also has a method of cheeseing him:
      -You can block all of his ice attacks by using the wing shield, negating all damage from that, this does not protect you from his melee attack nor his fire breath, so keep a distance.
      -When Red summons the explosive boxes, you can use water breath to push them into Red, and if you're quick enough and lucky enough, you can deal two hits on Red before he destroys the other boxes.
      -Edit: just found out that I should probably watch the whole video before commenting something that is brought up anyway...

    I dunno, I still think the Yeti boxing match is worse than Red.
    Red just takes a while, with only the lasers being unfair.
    That yeti...
    I'm seriously wondering if it's channeling a bit of Psycho Mantis, because I swear he can read your button inputs. That's the only reason I can think why he would have such fast reaction times both when attacking and defending.
    Also, didn't know wing shield worked on Red's ice attacks. For the longest time I just tried to avoid them, before realising you can simply flame them. So hey, I learned something new about the fight.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that actually is the issue with the fight. The AI knows what button you press and automatically counters it, so it basically is Psycho Mantis! It's a lot less noticeable if you fail a lot and the difficulty scales down, but yeah, the AI is a cheating git.
      You taught me something new about the Red fight too because I didn't know you could flame the ice attacks. It's cool to know there's multiple ways to do the fights. :D

    • @AdmiralOctopus
      @AdmiralOctopus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Toridori I'm really hoping they tone down the Yeti in the remake, because fighting SASQUATCH PSYCHO MANTIS is not a pleasant experience.
      Or, at least, they keep the easter egg where you can play as the Yeti with the P2 controller if you revisit the minigame after beating it, because that is the easiest way to get the skill point.

    The Double Jump is just a gameplay feature, part of the world, so nothing changes from having it other then Spyro moving more horizontal leading to less climbing up and dynamic levels. It also leads to more open space in levels where there is nothing.
    You don't get more control since the game expects you to use it undoing the additional freedom.
    Compare this to how Hover was almost never needed nor used in older Spyro games. The result is the Hover was just an extension or improvement to Spyro's control. If you undershot a little it was a 100% reliable recovery but also let you land with more precision on smaller ledges.
    The Ledge Grab was added to compensate for the lack of Hover... which not only doesn't work at times but can actively hinder you from time to time if you glide past or near ledges. While on paper DJ does "more" it comes at a massive cost.
    It is an interesting topic of how more movement = big spaces to compensate.
    In return you get longer hallways or giant empty rooms without an increase to the aspect of the part people liked.

    I only just played A Hero's Tail for the first time, completing it 100%, and I actually really enjoyed it! I would say my opinion matches yours with regards to the Blink levels, in particular that last one in Dark Mines (I screamed so much at some of the platforming I gave myself a headache...) but I must admit my opinion largely differs on everything else. I mostly had a blast playing the game to 100% completion. I think the voice acting is great, and I really enjoyed Jess Harnell's take on Spyro. The way the characters were animated, particularly in cutscenes, was super smooth and gives them so much charavter. I LOVE the design of Red, and I love the designs of the dragon elders too. The secret final cut scene was awesome, and the game's script certainly tickled me in the right ways. Level design was mostly good, controls tight and visuals stunning. Personally, I rate this game quite highly and really enjoyed it!
    I'm now playing through TLoS series which, like you, I've never played before so I'm going in fresh. I'm currently on A New Beginning and enjoying that so far. I look forward to your video on that!

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok if you did the same then I'm brave enough to admit that the last Blink mini game almost had me in genuine tears. It was so incredibly hard to do, not in a 'oh wow this is a good challenge' way, in a 'if I don't do this now the controller is going through the window' way. Luckily I decided to quit before anything expensive was broken.
      I think I would have tried 100% completion if it weren't for the fact I was already busy moving and was worried people would get bored of waiting for the video. I'll endeavour not to be so lazy next time! Though saying that, Enter the Dragonfly really let me down in terms of 100% completion, so maybe that's why I didn't try. While I didn't enjoy Jess Harnell's voice I agree that the character animation was awesome. The small little details like the way Spyro tilts his head in confusion are great and really bring life to the character!

    overall I like this game! it was a big part of my childhood and while as a grown adult I can see a lot of it's flaws (ie. the dumb jokes, lack of character development, water breath being useless and the minigames being repetitive) it's a very pretty game and it's fun to play as spyro - I also absolutely loved the reskins. There's definitely certain levels that are much more memorable than the others, and to me the most exciting part story-wise was having to save spyro as hunter. I think it deserves a little more credit, and to me it has replay value.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reskins were pretty cool, I did unlock Ember in the end and I've unlocked the Flame in the past. Only annoying thing with them is they didn't change the voice for Ember, so she still sounds like Spyro lol! Hunter was seriously underused, I wish we could have replaced Blink with him. :P

    as a kid I played spyro 2 because my mom used to play it and still had her ps1. I got this game for my birthday and was so excited to see how cool it was going to be. threw it into my GameCube, hit that power button and wow. my 8 year old eyes were amazed at how "spyro" the game looked. it was like taking the original graphics from ps1 and pushing them through an upgrade machine. I absolutely loved this game, honestly more than spyro 2 and 3. but nowadays the nostalgia doesn't hold up enough to say its equal to the first 3. But wow, as a kid this game was absolutely gorgeous, every area had me fully absorbed and involved in the world, making it feel real and alive. the dark areas felt scary and truthfully threatening. The big tropical forest place had me blown away, it was my favorite area (still is). but all those feelings about the game sorta stuck with the past. playing it again made me realize how much smaller the worlds were (and easier). Although the art style still holds up today, the music brings out the visuals quite a bit. the gameplay, exploration and sense of discovery just didn't show like it did in the originals. can not wait for the reignited trilogy!

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's funny how we were sort of the opposite. When I saw the game as a kid I wasn't keen, the graphics are beautiful but I didn't like the gameplay, the exploration etc. Now I'm older I appreciate it more, but I agree that it still is too small a world compared to Spyro 1, 2 and 3!

    There was a lot of cut content from this game. I don’t think it was intended to be this child friendly. Gnasty sounded scarier and more aggressive, he could actually move in the boss fight as well. There were also sharks in the game and the spiders looked different. Check these out with the “Spyro Demoventure” videos or early trailers! :D

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, I wonder if it was the publishers that told them to dial it down then! And I just watched the Spyro Demoventure now, the shark part was terrifying but reminded me of the metal sharks in Spyro 2. In fact, all these sharks are creepy, uhhh! D:

    • @luckydudex3765
      @luckydudex3765 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same! Maybe they did tell them to dial it down and same goes with the difficulty. If you see the earlier trailers, you could see many enemies (gnorcs) on the same area attacking you. On the final version, you only get to attack one gnorc at a time which makes it a lot easier :/

    While it was nowhere near the first Spyro game I played, A Hero's Tail is one that has a close place in my heart for being the first I bought (or was given, I was 12 after all) on release.
    I have fond memories of the game - I loved seeing what happened after destroying the dark gems, the music (I've forgotten most after Frostbite Village, but what I remember was on point), and Sgt. Byrd.
    I remember thinking that Blink was fun at first, but after getting the light gem in his first level, I just ignored him. He was far too time consuming.

    This was a great overview of the whole game and I’m pretty much in agreement with all your points. Next to the Insomniac three, I found this to be my favorite Spyro game (I initially hated it, then played Enter the Dragonfly and changed my mind :D). I recently replayed it and found it pretty fun since I wasn’t going for 100% (maybe that’s why I hated it XD this game is horrible to fully complete). I feel you on the Blink loathing so very much; pretty sure I outright started throwing him in lava in the volcano mini game. :D
    As usual, great work! Also, thank you for your Tomb Raider play throughs. I was never good enough to beat the original games as a kid and now I physically can’t, so you gave me the chance to really enjoy something I’ve always loved. Your commentary was fantastic too. :)

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Razz Terizzi! When I played this as a kid (I think I was going for 100% also) I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I do now I'm an adult. It's a weird game, they try to make it kid friendly with the graphics/dialogue/humour etc, but I found combat and platforming quite difficult sometimes. More difficult than kid me could probably attempt. And Blink deserves to die in a fire, so throwing him in the lava is a fitting reaction! :D
      I'm so glad you like my Tomb Raider play throughs! When Spyro is all done and dusted I wouldn't mind continuing my 'A History' series and looking into TR. They hold a special place in my heart after all. Only one I'm concerned about is TR3, I could never work out where to go even on the first level in that one... needless to say I never finished TR3 without cheats. :s

    • @razzterizzi5128
      @razzterizzi5128 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Burn forever, Blink. o_o
      I got a surprising amount of mileage out of the fourth wall breaks and what appeared to be some pretty racy humor in the game as an adult (it was the sort of stuff that kids wouldn't notice but as an adult you kind of pause at Sparx's lines :D). I'm with you on the gameplay for sure! I found a lot of it challenging even as a pretty decent gamer, and I think some of that was just due to glitches and bad collision detection in spots.
      "A History of Tomb Raider" by you would be amazing! Those early games are dear to me, too, even if I was terrible at them. But TR3 remains the only game that had me throw a controller and run to hide behind a chair in terror (I think I was fifteen XD). My cousin and I couldn't pass the first level, at all and we didn't know about cheats, haha. :D I've wanted to play the games myself, but the control scheme is murder on my hands and the graphics (which I personally find beautiful) make it difficult for me to get past a certain point in any of the games.

    An easy way to avoid the laser beam while fighting the water she witch is to jump on the top of the beam and use wing shield. The water won't hurt you and the platform that spawns after the beam will push you back up to the surface. Just don't stop holding the wing sheild until you are on the surface.

    though i do agree with your statements. Blink boy was NOT my favourite. and i had to force myself to play the game again and 100% it all so i could unlock the extras menu and play as Flame and Amber.

  • @xEmmaberryx
    @xEmmaberryx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is going to be long, so bear with me.
    A Hero's Tail always holds a special place in my heart. Not only was it my first Spyro game, but my first video game overall, and the reason I got into writing. I love the soundtrack now, as much as I did back then, and I still find the NPC's really interesting, if a bit cliched. It's a game I know inside and out, and one of the only games I can confidently say I know a lot about.
    As a child, I thought the dialogue was witty and wanted to see how it would translate outside a video game (answer: not too well), and I only 100% completed it when I was 11 or 12, because I found certain parts difficult. I used to love Blink levels and find Sparx mini games extremely difficult.
    As an adult, I still love the game, but I definitely acknowledge the flaws. I despise Blink mini games, and find the last two near impossible to complete without swearing at the game. The game play does get repetitive, and by the time I reach Stormy Beach, I'm ready to just complete the game without going through the realm. I can definitely acknowledge the difficulty spike with the game, not just within the mini games.
    I really loved this video, and even though I didn't really learn anything new, it was great to just hear the history, and your opinion on it.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a lot more patience than me if you enjoyed the Blink levels as a kid! I could never get his double jump to work for me, having to wait til the right time to tap x again was annoying. Too early and he doesn't go far enough, too late and he won't double jump... I think if I had started with this game first instead of the original trilogy, I'd have much more appreciation for it when I was younger. But having played 1, 2 and 3, loved them, then had Enter the Dragonfly ruin Spyro for me, I feel like I couldn't enjoy A Hero's Tail as much as I wanted to.
      And it's funny how you went from liking Blink's levels to hating them as an adult. Do you think as a kid you had more skill or more patience to do them? Or do you think you're looking back through rose tinted spectacles and remembering it better? And thank you for the long comment, I love reading people's thoughts and opinions on the game. And sorry for my long comment back. xD

    • @xEmmaberryx
      @xEmmaberryx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Toridori I think I had more patience as a child. And I think younger me thought that the platforming was cool.
      Whilst I don't think I look back on the game through rose tinted spectacles, I hold it in higher regard than most people I talk to probably do. But knowing the game inside out also means I'm finding more flaws and things to exploit. I almost wish I had grown up with the Xbox version because that's a lot of more unpolished than the PS2 edition.

    +Toridori I really do not know what exactly it is about your videos in particular, but I definitely find it easy to view the entire video with your uploads without losing the interest to see it through to the end as that has happened on many occasions with me.
    I do care about the time, effort and love that each TH-camr puts in to their videos, but sometimes long videos are off-putting.
    I have viewed videos in the past that I have then noticed are over an hour long and then I just end up clicking off the video.

    I kind of miss the old mechanic of flying through portals between each realm, Stewart Copeland’s mysterious style music and the absence of the voice actors from the previous 3 games especially Tom Kenny for Spyro. There’s no sign or mention of the Bianca or Elora characters either hence why I don’t rate Hero’s Tail very high , though at least it was less rushed and glitchy than it’s predecessor was !

    Nice review!😁
    I personally enjoyed every single hour i spent in the game, excluding Blinks f***** minigames xD
    Yes it was very diffrent compared to the past Spyro Games...but it was fun and quite challenging in some point and i love that.
    I love the design from the levels and the opportunity to play as Hunter, and again as Sparx and Sgt. Bird.
    And i also really liked moneybaggs in this game...he didn‘t f***** me up like in the other games xD
    That there wasn‘t an amount of gems in each „level“ or „area“ wasn‘t that bad but it would have been nice if we have had this.
    It was a challenge to complete the game on 100%, and i did it until this day two times...and sometimes i really wanted to smash the controller out of the window...😂 mostly because of Blink minigames and one speedway from Sgt. Bird. I think it was the speedway from the volcanic islands.
    I really hope that you‘ve understood my englisch because i‘m from Germany...😅

      Blink is absolutely terrible, I'd say he can die in a fire but I already threw him into the lava multiple times! I think I 100% this game when I was a kid as I distinctly remember having the Flame and Ember cosmetic skins, but this time around I just couldn't be bothered. The game makes backtracking such a chore compared to previous games in my opinion, and I wasn't fussed about unlocking gallery art or character models, no matter how cool they are.
      And your English is great! :D

    When I was younger, I loved the Spyro series - actually, I still do. They are probably my favorite games, even to this day. While the originals will always be my favorites, after the horror of Enter the Dragonfly, this game was like a breath of fresh air. This game was different, but it was playable! Coming from Enter the Dragonfly, it felt amazingly polished. Despite me not loving some parts - Blink, I hate you - it was a great return to one of my favorite series.

    Early comment since I actually have no opinion on this game, which is weird, cause I've owned it for a VERY long time, but I've barely ever gotten to the second overworld. Looking forward to you playing the Legend trilogy though. I sort of enjoyed the 2 I've played. Still trying to track down a PS2 copy of the third game, cause I'm picky about always having a trilogy on the same system if possible, and the PS2 was the only system I could find where that was even possible. lol Also, any plans to play the 3 (Technically 4) Gameboy Advance games?

      Once I'm done with TLoS I probably will give the GBA and Nintendo DS games a go. I know people want me to play Shadow Legacy so I thought, why not? It depends how I feel really. I love Spyro to bits, but I have no idea if I'll be burned out on Spyro or just too busy in the future. I also wouldn't mind making some different Spyro content, like maybe ranking down all the realms from each game in order of awesomeness. I'd probably just do that for the first three games though. :)

    This Video was a lot fun to watch, since i never passed the first world, i always had an incredible large amount of problems with the control ( fire breath and charge swithed, WHY??????) and i HATED that the gems were a currency.
    After watching your Videos i decided to play all 6 games now (the original triology aswell as EtDf and A Heros Tale) to
    Firstly: Have all of them played before the reignited comes out and
    Secondly: to actually have experienced them now that im older (even tho i played 3 and 4 already 100 times)
    Im exited for you to play the The Legend of Spyro games, but.... those 3 games (remember still a little bit of them) were and are absolutly NOTHING like the others, but you will see. I never got myself to actually play them because for me they arent part of the series anymore, they are just like Skylander: Spyros Adventure : They used the name, nothing else!
    Im still exited for it, your Videos are really addictive and make a lot fun to watch ^c^

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Astralaris, I'm glad you liked the video! Younger me didn't like it for the same reasons, weird controls, old mechanics like gems completely changed etc. But I don't mind it so much now I'm an adult. You should definitely play them all and get hit by that wave of nostalgia, I'm actually tempted to live stream the original trilogy before Reignited is out.
      The Legend of Spyro series has mixed opinions judging by all the comments I've received about it; some people love it and others hate it. I'm really curious about which I'll be once I''m done with it.. xD

  • @pages4573

    The best thing I can say about the game is that it is good fun. It seemed that the developers took what worked in older games and tried to refine it. Beside the horrid blink, I think Hunter, SGT Byrd and Sparx are more entertaining in this than the animal buddies in 3.
    Plus just the quality of life changes made from Enter the dragon fly such as ease to switch breaths and the Shield move is nice. It's apparent the game designers went through great effort to streamline the spyro formula. But with that the cracks start to form.
    In removing a lot of the more cumbersome bits. (Like replacing the hover with a double jump, gliding etc) they also stripped out ost of the personality. It feels like a spryro game, but a spyro game made by a fan of the series more than what the original dev team would make.
    On a superficial level everything is there. Each world as a wacky NPC to help, there are side objective and collectables. But not a lot of it really comes together perfectly. Leaving it without the magic of the first three games.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think anything will beat the original trilogy, they had that spark (or Sparx aha I'm sorry) to them that the later games lost. Like you said, AHT is good fun, but it's missing the magic of the first three. I didn't mind it while playing as an adult but I'm sure I remember younger me thinking, "This isn't Spyro the Dragon." That could just be adult nostalgic me talking though - having grown up with the first 3 I'll always hold them in high regard!

  • @RichardPlaysStuff
    @RichardPlaysStuff 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Finally got around to watching this!
    Hero's Tail is harmless. I played it before Enter the Dragonfly so a soured mindset wasn't on the table and I did really enjoy it when I first played it but every other playthrough, I have a decent time but there's just other games that do what it does much better and I'd rather be playing them instead. I also never beat it. I got to the second section of the last world but just never advanced from there.
    The fact you had to redo challenges was an extreme form of padding and it may be a sign that this game was rushed also but instead of just cramming a lot in and shipping out whatever, they just polished what they had up to that point. At least that's what I theorise. This game would've been fine without the dragon eggs but I guess people would've complained it was too short. A short, good game is better than a long, tedious one.
    Also, yeah, heck Blink. He just never wants to cling on anything. I am thankful for the checkpoints, though.
    Good review! It's definitely put me in a mood to play Hero's Tail again and hopefully, my opinions are heightened on a new playthrough.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you sum it up pretty well, it's an okay game but there are far more entertaining games that do what AHT does better! Did you never beat it because you just grew bored and moved on to other things or did something happen to stop you playing, like a bug?

    • @RichardPlaysStuff
      @RichardPlaysStuff 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just had a lack of interest up to that point. The last world just felt a bit generic up to the point I stopped but now I know there's a robot factory, that may be more incentive to keep going :)
      Are there known game breaking bugs, then? I don't think I ever ran into any glitches in general in every playthrough and if I did, I can't remember any lmao

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe there's a chance for one of the eggs to be impossible to pick up, making fully completing the game also impossible. Only one I know of though!

    • @boemchak

  • @Altarior
    @Altarior 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tried 100%ing this game because I was honestly having a lot of fun with it. But wouldn't you know it, one of the eggs for some reason didn't get added to my inventory when I picked it up! It's one of the blue eggs with yellow stars in Cloudy Domain. So now I can never complete that game file! It's a shame 'cause other than that and some minor complaints I love this game, even the Blink parts...
    Can't wait to hear what you think of Legend of Spyro. Personally I love them a whole lot, even though they're a complete revamp of the characters, world and story, rebuild from scratch. They're not collectathons, but they're some of the most fun beat-em-ups I've ever played. Really hope you'll enjoy them too, good luck!

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my gosh, so even if I had tried to 100% complete it could have gone horribly wrong... I think the same thing happened to crystalfissure when he played AHT. One of the eggs he went to pick up in Magma Falls didn't count and he had to restart the entire game and work his way back to that point. I would be livid! >.>
      I'm looking forward to The Legend of Spyro series because I've never played them so new experience, yay! Also with such differing opinions on it in my comments section, I'm curious about what I will think of it. :D

    For anyone curious, you can just outrun the double lasers in Reds first fight. You don't need to jump through them.

    • @zac3194
      @zac3194 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And a few extra tips.
      For Reds first fight, you can use the wing shield to block the ice missiles or use fire breath, and also water breath to push the bombs faster and also to stun him for a second or 2 so he doesn't dodge the explosives.
      And for ineptune, If sparx is at full health, for each stage, I just let the lasers hit me just to skip like 10 seconds of just standing on top of them and waiting. And then as the next stage starts, I just kill myself to get back to full health.
      The electric breath stuns Red as well but water works too.
      Edit: I just did Red's first fight today, and I did it in 5 minute 36.
      So I honestly don't know how it took the guy in this video 19 minutes to complete. He must be terrible at the game.

    I found out that with lighting breath you can kill multiple enemies at once that are ether ware armor or are water based it also had a longer reach then any of the other breath. As for water i found killing flying enemies with it to be hilarious as well using water bombs to knock off enemies in to the abyss. I had to do a lot of back tracking so finding this out this kept me amused.
