    First, I'm sorry you are living with cystic fibrosis and wish you the best with your health. Second, thank you for being brave and open enough to document the patient point of view. I am a new nurse and am beginning to learn how to do dressing changes for PICC lines. I have very limited experience and nervous about providing care. Patient centered care is very important to me and I am grateful to have patient perspective. It truly helps me to close the gaps of my knowledge and be that much more capable of explaining things to patients. Stay well and positive. You are a true champion. :)

    Thank you so much for this great video. I was started on a temporary IV for antibiotic med today and have to get a PICC line ASAP. You have filled in so many details that everyone at the hospital assumed I already know. Your engaging demonstration is perfect conveying what I need to know and now I understand what is going on. Your video should be standard viewing at all hospitals so that patients are informed and put at easy by your engaging style and personality. this video really IS the BEST ! Sincere thanks and best wishes to you.

    My mom is getting a picc line today. 😔 I just watched a procedure video and OMG you and my mom are brave!!
    My mom was born with cystinuria, a rare kidney stone disease. She passes stones every day and gets a lot of kidney infections. 😔 Last year she stayed in the hospital 8 times and in the ER so many times, she even stayed in the ICU. 😔 But now they're saying she can have all her medicine at home! I'm so happy she can stay home now! ❤
    Your video is amazing! It really helped more than the others we watched. I'm only 11 so I understand your video better than the others. Thank you for sharing and calming me. Stay strong!

    So happy your PICC Line works for you.
    The dr had a PICC put in me & I developed a DVT. Now I have to spend at least the next 3 mo. on blood thinners. If I bump, scrape, or cut myself I could very well die! Nosebleeds are also a danger to your health & quite common on blood thinners. KNOW YOUR RISKS, do your homework, and ask for clear explanations before you let ANYONE insert a PICC Line, your life could depend on it!!!!
    I WOULDN’T even recommend a PICC Line for my dog!! BAD, BAD NEWS...BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS!!

    I'm so glad I weren't for a port, when it's deaccessed, it's almost invisible and i can access it when I need it. They offered me a central line or picc in addition to my port, i couldn't psychologically handle a permanent tube sticking out. Plus, I'm allergic to chlorhexidine, which means I can't use those anti-infective disks and would have higher infection risk

    Just wanting to give a WARNING on PICC lines, they should never be inserted into a person with total leg paralysis that only has their upper body for transfers. The transfer from wheelchair to bed is enough to severely damage the brachial plexus nerves, and cause permanent paralysis to the patients arm.

      The only exception is when you’ve got very bad veins and they can’t insert a normal i.v., what happens often to chronically ill people who had lots of i.v.‘s before (the normal i.v. veins are „scarred“ then and they need to use a deeper vein)

      @roonilwazlib5402 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hannah Lutz They normally don’t put adults under sedation for picc line insertions, but they will give you a skin sedation. I’ve had so much anxiety and we’re very lucky because they’ve put me to sleep a bit after I’ve asked them, but I think it’s normally not that bad to be awake during it.
      For me it hurt a bit for a few days but I think that’s normal because it’s a tiny injury.

    • @meenik6489

      The cap on it prevents any kind of backflow and only syringes can open the cap up. No germs can get inside the cap unless you connect a syringe to it without cleaning it with alcohol first.

      I thought that too... Gloves are not needed if she cleaned her hands before very well and uses the no-touch-method, but I’d definitely use a mask, especially when you’re talking during the procedure (because bacteria from the mouth could „fly“ to the catheter or the medical stuff, because sometimes we’re accidentally spitting a bit whilst we’re talking)
