- This 1943 motion picture film presents the layout of the New Haven Fire Department in the midst of its most extensive reorganizations under the leadership of Chief Paul Heinz. Chief Heinz's improvements have been credited with bringing the department's reputation to national prominence.

The beginning of repainting apparatus to white to increase visibility during wartime blackouts
Implementing the teletype communication system
Placing fog nozzles in service
Remodelling six horse-drawn era fire stations
New helmets and rubber coats
First-aid training for all members
Implementing an Emergency Company to respond to medical emergencies and rescues
Implementing an Air Raid Warning System
Placing a fireboat in service
The beginning of implementing the technical training grounds
