My favorite thing about Gegard is how bored he looks during face-offs and fights. Looking at his face, you would think he was waiting in line at the DMV and not about to fight a killer. Legend of the sport for sure! 👍

Reminds me of Mirko, with his demeanor. There's something even more intimidating about a guy that doesn't even talk trash or try to be intimidating, it's just another day in the office and you're another notch in his belt.

Gegard is an absolute legend. The dude has fought for almost 20 years and he's only 36. Gegard has won world titles in WW, MW, and LHW in top organizations, and fought some killers at HW.
He has been slept on since he went to the UFC, I blame their promotion of him. Glad to see him finally getting some shine (and some pay) in Bellator

That just reminded me of an interview he did when he was in the UFC that I can't find. I think he was complaining about his pay and the lack of promotion he got. He mentioned all the fighters he'd beaten that make way more than him and I think he said "Wtf do I need to do, dye my hair blonde?" Lol

Well some of those wins weren’t very good tho. Henderson was way past his prime and wasn’t capable and could barely keep up with the division. Jardine, Goodridge, Phillipou, Leites, Salter, Sokoudjou aren’t very good fighters or notable wins. OSP, Latifi, Santos and Lombard were very early on in their careers. the rest of his wins are pretty good. I think he’s a great fighter definitely top 5 MW of all time, but I think you over exaggerated his resume.

From 2008 to 2010 the two most feared fighters in MMA were Gegard Mousasi and Alistair Overeem. Overeem held the Strikeforce, Dream, and K-1 heavyweight championships all at the same time, and during that same time Gegard held the Strikeforce light heavyweight title, Dream light heavyweight, and middleweight titles, and beat the K-1 heavyweight champion Kyotaro Fujimoto in 2010. These dudes were legends just for the three-year runs they went on.
Gegard turned pro at 17, made his Pride debut at 22 years old, and beat Mark Hunt at heavyweight in Pride at 25 years old. BTW when Gegard left the UFC he had won his last 5 fights and 7 of his last 8 and was ranked #4 in the world. Gegard has not been ranked outside of the top 10 since 2010 and that was because they ranked him 11th at one point when he was outside of the UFC but was already a multiple-time champion.
This dude is a true legend.

I Put Gregard Mousasi in the same line up as A Demetrius Johnson, Mike Brown, Jose Aldo, Khabib, GSP, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Royce and Rickson Gracie, Fedor, and Big Gene kinda guy. So, good yet willing to let someone else be the Star of the show just to be the one to laugh later after shutting them down. He never once said anything bad about Vanderford and showed him incredible respect inside the cage. Rory Macdonald and Cheick Congo can almost go on that STOIC LIST because they also hold their sportsmanship at a higher level, have respect for themselves, teammates, and opponents. Rory, Lima, or Daly may be the only ones in Bellator that might have what it takes to grab the belt off Gregard right now but they are going to need a perfect night and be able to over power him. But that's me couch coaching. IDK if anyone can beat him at MW. All praises to Gregard Mousasi, may he have the health to do it as long as he wants. I'm buying everytime.

Well said. Gegard would crush Bisping easily. He would beat Romero with overall skill. He would submit Rockhold. He beat Hall twice really (fluke spinning kick aside). He beat Weidmann. He would beat Whitaker in a competitive fight, but likely finish on the ground. The only reason he wasn't getting a title shot is that he just doesn't promote himself the way the others get promoted. Not enough controversy. He comes from the Fedor line of badassdom where you are a silent killer. I am glad he is talking more these days, but he needs a better marketing team around him.

Austin is a beast and Mousasi smashed him. both guys should be in the ufc and Mousasi should get an immediate shot at Izzy, he's arguably the best mw right now and definitely the most well rounded.

Gegard was on a 5 fight win streak in the ufc and got sour with how he was treated... But he destroys the competition in Bellator and there is no one left their to challenge him.

Gegard has a top 5 MW Resume without a doubt. He fights for money, that's why he couldn't extend his contract with the UFC whilst on a 5 fight win streak.

I have to agree and i ALWAYS liked Gegard.I watched that fight and what stood out for me is i have seen 155 guys and even women with bigger arms and chests as you can clearly see Gagard is a CLEAN legit fighter you can see he is never even trying to cheat he is just a really good fighter.

What many new fans doesn't know is that Gegard is a very long time veteran and he's a huge name in Asia and Japan. At one time he was the best upcoming fighter in the world, they even had videos of him training back in the day with Fedor during pride days.

I can agree with this 110% let’s not forget when he left the UFC it wasn’t because he got cut or anything he didn’t like how they were treating him when he left he was in line for a title shot and he had just killed Chris Weidman

The craziest thing to me wathing Gegard vs Vanderford is when they announced Austin was from Ninilchik Alaska. I lived there for a summer and have family there still. Small world.

Geghard has even said in interviews in the past he felt like he was being overlooked because he was not rude, respected, and would not talk badly about other fighters. Later in his career he tried to join the trash talk crap that sells tickets, but unfortunately for Geghard it never sounded mean or bad ass, it sounded kind of comical because you knew he didn’t believe in putting his opponent down.

You're such a great storyteller! I'm from the Netherlands (like Mousasi) and before this weekend I had hardly heard about him. Says enough about me and my knowledge of fighting history but still it feels weird. Hope he will get more attention, thanks for bringing it into attention! 👍
