“Katakataka” is a Filipino/Tagalog folk song depicting romantic love between two lovers. It was composed by Santiago Suarez. The song and dance number was performed by the famous Filipino actors Rogelio dela Rosa and Norma Blancaflor in the 1946 movie “Victory Joe”.
It is one of Santiago Suarez’ best-loved compositions. It is a light, melodious tune telling of a love story that began as a joke. Among Filipinos, the pairing of of unlikely boys and girls is a favorite pastime. At first, the girl sneers at the boy, ridiculing the very idea of their falling for each other. The boy does likewise. Suddenly though, both find themselves constantly thinking of each other - they have fallen in love! And each waits with bated breath for the other’s declaration of undying love.
