    Just as a tip, never run anything hard like a screw driver in the commutator groves cause that mushrooms out the com-bars and will eat the brushes fast. I prefer to use a toothpick.
    Great progress today! Actually starting to look like an engine now!

    Thanks ATON for these videos! I'm also a mechanic by trade and while manuals are great and I have referred to them, I am completely new to bikes and this is exactly what I was hoping to find! Going to test my charging system now and will continue watching all these. I watched this and the clutch one last night and am excited to go service the bike now. Also wow the 750 Honda sure seems like a great engine to work on!

    Excellent info in your videos here.
    I've always been taught, especially with the SOHC CB750, that one should avoid using gasket sealer, like the permetex you use, unless absolutely necessary because pieces inevitably come loose and work their way into the oil passages, blocking proper flow to the top end. In fact, I just picked up a '74 where the guy used RTV blue on the valve cover. Pieces are falling off all over the place. Because of this, I'm going to have to do a rebuild just to make sure it isn't mucked up.
    Also a good excuse for an 836 kit, mild cam, and porting. :)

    Great post. Measuring a low resistance, the lead resistance of the probes may need to be subtracted. Also contact cleaner would be good cleaning rotor's contact with brushes. Would that convince carbon dust to stay away?

    The reason you getting 0.5 Ohms instead of 0.2 is the resistance of the DMM leads. Short 'em together, and remember the value, then distract that value from measurements you make.

    Great videos! They have helped me with building my cb750. Hoping you can answer a question. Do the stator and rotor sit in oil? I haven’t been able to find an answer, hoping you can help.

    Hey, thank you so much for your videos. They are so educational and you explain things just right.
    I'm building my cb750 right along with yours and ine thing I'm worried about is the electrical. Mine is a rats nest and the original harness is long gone. I'm dealing with wires that I'm not sure where they go. Are you going to be installing a factor harness or will you be laying down your own electrical work?

    • @DeanSegovis
      @DeanSegovis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey, my stator and coil check out with the resistance spec but when I assemble it and start the engine I get no AC voltage. checked for ground faults and there are none. any suggestions. 1974 cb750k4

  • @iviaverick52
    @iviaverick52 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are the stator field coil and rotor not supposed to physically touch or does it matter? I ask because These parts always look to be extremely close and I don't see how it would be possible to prevent them from touching when they are simply bolted onto a flimsy aluminum cover.

  • @christopherseremetis3139

    surprised it only had two brushes... my kawi had 4... it would spin the engine when cold with only 2 but didn't have enough torque to start the bike if the engine was warm.

  • @DarrenLandrum
    @DarrenLandrum 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay, this might seem a dumb question, but what keeps the engine from continuing to spin the starter motor once it's going?

    • @DeanSegovis
      @DeanSegovis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darren Landrum The gear it drives has a built in one way clutch, also known as a Sprag clutch: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprag_clutch

    Dean, I know I'm like the third person to ask this here, but still curious about your meter display - "OuCh"? Guessing it's for Out of range, and then Channel? Or maybe it's as a previous post surmised - you dropped it?

    • @DeanSegovis
      @DeanSegovis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never looked it up in the user manual but it shows O.UCH when it's measuring resistance and the leads aren't connected to anything.

  • @nozmoking1
    @nozmoking1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ha ha - over-range on the multimeter says "OUCH". Too bad John Fluke didn't think of that.

    • @DeanSegovis
      @DeanSegovis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      nozmoking1 I think this meter IS a Fluke. It's a Snap On meter I bought in 1996. They made meters for Snap On back then.

    • @HackaweekTV

      Wayne Johnson I don't know of one. Brushless motors require an external integrated inverter/switching power supply, which produces an AC electric signal to drive the motor.
