    I once owned a Merc C200 triple 1 and even though not a VW or Audi, I experienced the timing chain failure which was caused by a stuck malfunctioning valve tensioner, leading to a complete mess of all 16valves, plus one broken camshaft. I had to replace all those parts plus a new gasket and refacing. The repair costs were unbelievable and this was in 2011. So, when you describe what could go wrong with the VW engines and the cost thereof, I totally agree. This is very educative.

    Excellent work with a CK. With these German cars, as I’ve said before, maintenance is key, and maintenance isn’t cheap. On another note, the decision to offer warranty by a manufacturer is a business decision - they want minimum expense. It doesn’t mean that the car will disintegrate after expiry of the warranty. Only for the dealer, the expenses will eat into their profits. Huko majuu you can pay for extended warranty to go beyond the usual warranty. Same with iPhones iPads etc. They will no longer send updates after it no longer makes business sense. Keep doing what you do.

    VW's with issues are 1.4 twin charge, 1.2 TSI. 1.4 TSI (turbo), the other 1.8 & 2ltr engines are stable. DSG fails in most TSI, the repair or ex-uk/dubai is around 70k. Timing chain is 15k. Its gd to research alot before buying VW/Audi otherwise the cars can drain your account but very enjoyable in driving

    • @brickdeejay1266
      @brickdeejay1266 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need to research about TSI 1.4 turbo(single turbocharged) from 2013 onwards.Its not troublesome. The new engine is called CAX which does not break pistons easily. The problem can only be the DSG gearbox however its advised to service it immediately you purchase the car. The good thing is the local mecs will give you a service warranty for the gearbox atleast 2‐5 years depending on kind the mec. YES 1.4 TSI is problematic a times but you just have to learn your car and create a good relationship with it. My take.

  • @bernardndolo8783

    Changing the timing belt kit which comes with its tensioner is standard at 100,00km even for a Toyota landcruiser using a belt for timing,. The manual for VW advise you to change it at that mileage. It even warns you on the dash that your timing belt needs changing when you get to that mileage. Why anyone would ignore this defeats logic. The timing kit does not come cheap, it will set you back around 35k for a VW. A more realistic question is how much will it cost you replace the same with OEM parts for a Totota. A lot of Toyotas use chains and not belts. Chains do not need replacement. In summary,, failing to change a timing belt when due is like failing change oil when due. No relationship with longevity or reliability of an engine.

    We on the Bimmer side have been trolled and learnt to accept.
    Though personally mine has had no issues in 110,000kms driven locally, I wouldn't be so defensive like the VW gang since other people might be having issues u have never even heard of.

    This is a fantastic and incredibly helpful channel. Whereas I don't foresee myself ever driving in Africa I do drive, buy, and would consider sending vehicles to 🇯🇲. I have always believed Japanese cars are the best for this purpose and your channel serves to confirm that view. The only fly in the ointment, so to speak, about shipping cars to Jamaica is that they can't be any older than five years old unless you're a returning resident when the car can be 10 years old. That policy means there are a lot of perfectly usable and quality cars that won't leave these shores for 🇯🇲. In which case I now doubt I'll ever get to own a 2012 RAV4 😥

    I disagree with this .The issues you are mentioning are with all European and German cars if not well maintained and use of correct fuel. I think the local assembly are tuned to use the quality of fuel in our country that why they are more reliable. Compared to the hp and torque they produce the EU and German fuel efficiency is good and this should be part of maintenance in my opinion.

    Hiyo issue ya planned obsolescence, yes it happens and it is not because of malice, but because that is the average time their primary customers own a car before selling it and buying a new one.
    Also traditionally, there were not advanced computer models to better predict how well the vehicle parts and components will hold up, so back then, the cars were over engineered and extremely robust. Today however, they can make parts to last exactly how long they want in order to minimize costs, and the parts will last as long as their customers take to buy a new car.

    You wouldn't believe the sigh of relief I have watching part II of this video series Erick. Had been on the market for a Europen estate/family wagon late last year and had pitched tent on your channel for that much needed insight. By December my mind was made up, and in February chose to import a P3 volvo after your V60 video review... So imagine the jitters I had when the first part of this series came out😅! Was bracing for some premium tears😂😂.... Hopping for more content on where to get genuine OEM parts

    The VWAG are performance cars, they wear out more and cost a fortune to maintain, also owning and long use of one requires one to have an idea of what is producing that high performance drive. The alternative to this is an empty pocket and a parking spot at the garage

    Hi, I'm new subscriber to the channel. I really enjoy and have learnt a great deal from your content. I'm in Zimbabwe, and I feel your content helps most African car buyers since we mostly relay on 10+ years Old imports. I was really considering getting an Audi A4 which is currently at +80k milage, I'm glad I ran into this video, its a bit unfortunate that you sometimes will be speaking in your native language, but basically one can get the gist of what you will be talking about. If possible may you also include translative subtitles. Really love your constant. Keep up the good wotk
