FiveRound5 I think the remake was pretty good, you can tell the amount of respect Peter Jackson had for the original movie, my only problem is it dragged on for waaaay too long while the original told the story at a quick satisfying pace.

For 1933, these effects are still pretty damn good.
They actually took the time to animate the anguish that Kong felt.

    • @trashbot5675
      @trashbot5675 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

Not they he. Unlike today where there are dozens of animators that work on each shot there were only 2 animators for kong a main and assistant, Wilis O’Brien was the main animator and almost all the animation in this scene and in the movie was done by him, also the main Kong puppet was designed to be emotive since the armature actually had a wires placed under the foam lips so kong snarl and have a wide range of expressions same with kong’s eyelids and brow

      I wouldn't even say "for 1933".
The effects in this *are* better than modern films..
Yes, the movement is a little jerky, but it's real practical effects and they seamlessly merge the animation into the shots of the people..
Look at the shot of Kong on stage with the actors below and the audience in the foreground and realise that Kong was actually Not there. He was added in later.
Yet you completely buy that he's there.
Now look at the recent Marvel films using green screen and CGI.
I don't buy that the characters are really there or in danger.

When Peter Jackson and his team recreated the spider pit scene and did some test stop motion footage. They even found it to be difficult and this is 2005!
Honestly most of it is a mystery of how they pulled this off for the time. I would love to talk about how great this movie is but the special effects it pioneered, it’s story telling, and it’s music forever left an impact on pop culture. Truly one of the best movies ever made

Did you know that the Empire State Building was still 70% empty for a while after it's completion? Then in March 1933, King Kong comes out, creates what is now known as the "blockbuster" movie because people stood in long lines for hours all the way around the entire block that their theater was on just so they could see the movie, and the Empire State Bldg received exponentially more applications for leasing office space as a result of the increased exposure this movie brought to it. Therefore, had King Kong never left Skull Island in the film, the Empire State Bldg would have been a huge financial debacle that set back Manhattan commerce and real estate for decades. Furthermore, some of the office space leased inside the ESB after 1933 were companies with military contracts that would go on to develop key items that helped the Allies win WW2.
Who knows where we would be today, as an entire nation, had King Kong never made his fateful climb to the pinnacle of the Manhattan skyline in 1933?

It actually took much longer than 1933 to fill the building because it was planned and construction begun BEFORE the stock market crash of October 1929 and construction continued into the beginning of the Great Depression. It was hard to fill because Midtown was not the right area for business at the time... and with businesses still contracting due to the depression, it was hard to find tenants. (No one was expanding or upgrading back then). It wasn't until the post-war error (late 40s) that things really began to take off for the Empire State Building. It's first profits were not turned until the 1950s.

What they were able to accomplish, not just 50 years after the beginning of sound in pictures, but three, my god they nailed it right from the start. To try and outdo what King Kong did then art needs a new medium. It’s On the short of the greatest films ever made. Sadly I see many today laugh at it.

Frankly, if she had felt much sympathy or love for him it would’ve been Stockholm Syndrome, considering that she was his captive. So she actually is the most mentally strong of all the King Kong female leads. That being said, Kong technically couldn’t help being a kidnapper since he could never speak her language and he was doomed to always be seen as a monster by everyone around him. It is clear that he truly cares for her and this is his way of protecting her, yet she will never see or understand that and will always remember him with fear rather than any kind of acknowledgment that he was trying to help her in his own way. It just adds to the tragedy that nobody in the film recognizes Kong’s humanity … only the audience.

Damn, thanks for putting that into words. I hadn't given much thought on how much it changes the viewer's experience if Ann warms up to Kong or not. I just rewatched Peter Jackson's Kong and she was so sympathetic to end, to the point of overacting really. You're right how the original has him far more misunderstood by everyone.
