    This book is a comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to create various types of garden buildings. The book provides clear and detailed instructions with numerous photos. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBE-xSmFU7PIaMFUmmhnFxE035s5svtxeAs a novice, I appreciated the book's step-by-step approach to the basics of building. The book also appeals to the more advanced DIY enthusiast with projects ranging from simple to complex. The book is up to date with the latest trends, such as solar panels, green roofs, and sweet chestnut shakes. The book has inspired me to pursue more projects in the future.

    I read the entire Ryan's th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.

      A pea shooter here in Michigan. We fill basements with them. We also don’t use top coat stone for driveways until we have a base of 1x3 crushed concrete on a mat. I’ve never seen smaller equipment like these, usually a backhoe or skidsteer.

    Damn you Perkins Build Brothers. I started watching your channel a few weeks ago and now I can’t stop watching. You are a pleasure to watch and listen to because I learn a lot about building from you guys. You keep it informative, interesting, funny and overall just a joy to watch. I’m hooked on your videos and can’t wait for the next episode. I was really touched by Jamie’s ability to talk about his injury and how he’s dealing with his setback. It took a lot of guts to make that video and I’m praying for him and all of your crew.

    The insulation layer is interesting because in the UK you HAVE to insulate the concrete slab. Usually it's a layer of PIR insulate between two layers of concrete. Surprised it's not enforced where you are as the weather looks very similar!

    • @collin4194
      @collin4194 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah its a bit of a shame they didn't do it. For the comparatively minor cost, it should go without saying because of how much it could help reduce energy consumption and bills. I am an architect in Germany and it is also required here

    • @markstipulkoski1389
      @markstipulkoski1389 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The house that Erik Perkins bought had a foam insulated basement and he had trouble getting termite treatment. Subterranean termites tunnel through the foam to the wood structure above. The tunnels are difficult to detect. Because of his personal experience, he chooses not to do ICF. However, there are products that can mitigate this, especially for new construction. I feel the Perkins Brothers need to up their game and start building more energy efficient homes. The Guildbrook Farm TH-cam has built an ICF home in the same region as the Perkins.

    For the drive and parking areas, geotextile bearing fabric (keeps rock from working down into the dirt) would really greatly improve the long term performance of the rock surface. It will save the future owners or maintainers from having to put as much new rock on because the initial rock can't easily work down into the soil.

    Vacuum excavation is a great solution for digging deep narrow holes in rocky soil. Ive used it to great success for putting in solar array footings in the mountains... Break the ground with a breaker bar and then rest while you vacuum the debris out of the hole. 👌

    Weld a square U section steel plate. Purchase three heavy duty wooden backed scrubbing brushes. Screw the brushes to the inside of the U section (ensure boots fit tight at setout).

    Instead of foam on the outside of the stem walls/footings. You can use mineral wool board. It's like a stiff version of Rockwood Batts. I believe Comfortboard 80 is rated for under slabs and termites/carpenter ants don't burrow into it. The only drawback is it's expensive. I runs about $2/sqft.
    The NE builders use close cell sprayfoam under there slabs. I think the 2lb/ft foam density is strong enough. I've used close cell spray foam near grade before and haven't noticed it having problems with insects, but I'd do some more googling before recommending it.
    Thanks for the vids!

Setting aside the Termite debacle, would you strongly encourage your home owners to add this type of insulation even though you are heavily focused on budget? My end goal is to try and understand the ROI for adding foundation insulation.

    @19:00 have you thought of using Cellular concrete fill or cellular concrete panels? The thermal efficiency is a close comparable and fire rating is better than regular set concrete especially in the lighter density formulas. You can also use it as your sub-base which is a very common use in the transportation industry for bridge ramps and soft soil locations. There are a few companies out there that make the foaming machines that range from small to large trailer configurations. I'm not sure if you use the same structural guy on every job but if so i would ask them about it, could save you some on the job.
