Two years later this motor is going strong th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
I love my Ulterra on my bass boat. I picked-up a used tracker targa 17’ and my ulterra being a 45” shaft is too small. I purchased a ultrex 60” shaft because I want to use a low pro rack or all aboard livescope mount. Stay blessed!
I wonder if I’m the only who caught the “how neat is that” reference lol I’m interested in the terrova for my tracker pro guide v16. It’s an aluminum deep v. Would recommend the 60” or 45” trolling motor shaft length??
hopefully the ulterra works out. The only reason I don't own one is , I have used a cable drive for 30 years and can't get used to the ulterra pedal or remote. There are 2 certified minn kota repair shops in the metro. Jerry's and smithville marine. I have not used either one. I have owned over a dozen Minn Kotas over the years. Not much problem with any of them. I Just installed my second Ultrex in 4 years. Not because of Minn Kota issues. I just abused and wore the first one out.

Hang in there with your Alterra, I'm retired fish as often as can, upper midwest and multiple trips to Canada each summer. I am on year 3 with my Refurbished Alterra, mother board went out first week I had it, fixed within a week covered by warranty, recently had power switch go out, fixed in 2 days. Those are the only problems I have had. Best investment I have made, love the ease of operation and self deploy and stow is so nice when we change fishing spots which is often when we fish structure. Several people have become believers after fishing with me and have purchased an Alterra. TIGHT LINES
A Terrova doesn't cost $5,000. Even the new Terrova Quest doesn't cost $5,000. The Ulterra Quest costs a little more than $4,000. Comparing the Ulterra and Terrova is apples and oranges.
I have heard trailering Minn Kota down bumping highways and county roads beat up trolling motor badly. Bumping bumping electric components is bad news . His facts: official Minn Kota repair shop in Ontario Canadian. Don’t travel Minn Kota trolling Motors on bow of your boat
@@KansasAnglingExperience haha thanks! I’ve got livescope now, just have to figure out which spot lock trolling motor to get. I run 12v currently.. have considered terrova. My boat is extremely light (16” aluminum lowe skorpion bass boat). Impossible to stay on crappie with current set up when it’s windy.
For the record regarding my previous comment! Gentlemen, I was finally able to get up with Trolling Motor Services Plus yesterday after numerous attempts. I learned the motor is factory programmed for a port side mount with prop facing seaward. He mounted it on the starboard side which obviously caused the prop to contact the hull and obstruct travel. The real issue is Matias Dozo-Moreno, owner of Trolling Motor Services Plus when I asked admitted twice he NEVER repeat NEVER checked the deploy or stow function during installation claiming it might hit the trailer which is ludicrous. He knew he screwed up and had he done his job correctly and checked the installation he would have realized the error, corrected his mistake and all of this diatribe could have been avoided. Openly denigrating the unit obviously instilled trepidation as a first time Minn Kota customer which certainly exacerbated the issues! After all...this guy sells RHODAN and that’s all he has in his shop so that might be the reason! That being said he wiped out the factory settings, rotated the lower unit 180 degrees, reprogrammed and got it working properly and walked off! To reiterate had he simply responded weeks ago and not told me I made a purchasing mistake with Minn Kota we could have avoided all of this back and forth. This has been a major learning experience for me in trusting reviews. I remain hugely disappointed in The Factory Outlet Store and of course Minn Kota’s choice of Trolling Motor Services Plus as ASC and as it stands I will keep the motor and go to a reputable Minn Kota shop if further repairs are necessary.
You had the Ulterra 2 weeks and it broke on you, had to buy a Terrova to get by, the manufacturer and retailer both could not help on a 2 week old motor. And then in your next thought you surmise that the Ulterra will be okay because you are going to be fishing way more often than the recreational angler. Sorry, but you need a logic class.
I guess there must be some secret rule for YT videos that states "When choosing a title for your video, refrain from actually having that titled content in the video". And, it is truly funny how many anglers just can not focus on making a helpful video and have to include 5 minutes of them fishing. For crying out loud... You have "Ulterra vs. Terrova" in the title so one would assume its a comparison video? I guess not. Its basically just you whining about getting a bad Ulterra. I hope your clients getting a better fishing experience than the people who subscribe to your channel if this is a good representation of your video content. In the mean time I'll keep looking for some real information about "Ulterra vs. Terrova". Keep trying though. Good luck.
Sorry but when you do the math, a Terrova and Ulterra bought in the same month is actually more than 5000 so yes, it is misleading, because I spent more.

Love my Terrova! Would'nt trade it for anything!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us.
And on the Hottest Day of the Year...??? Just whistle at your trolling motor and yell "Go Get 'Em"...!
Looks like a great trolling motor but I would be worried about longevity on ulterra
Lol. Not sure you watched the video if that’s what’s you’re commenting.
@@KansasAnglingExperience yeah I like minn kota but way to many moving parts
@@KansasAnglingExperience I'm sure it's good but I would worry about a motor or spur gear or ?
@@KansasAnglingExperience I think they are great I bought terrova for less moving parts but still way too expensive lol
I wonder if I’m the only who caught the “how neat is that” reference lol
I’m interested in the terrova for my tracker pro guide v16. It’s an aluminum deep v. Would recommend the 60” or 45” trolling motor shaft length??
Always go as long as you can get
I was about to cut my shaft (54”) to better fit my 1444 Jon. Why do you say longer is better?
hopefully the ulterra works out.
Had ulterra belt keeps breaking 4 times now i trashed it Now im trying terovva
Keep us updated on how the ulterra is working for you
I got it fixed and it shit the bed again. Got it fixed again and sold it.
Using the terrova now?

Thanks for telling it like it is. Amazing amount of similiar comments and questions. Folks just watch the video, read the comments, and learn from the replies? Just saying. 😀
That would make too much sense 🙃
I fish 3-5 times a week and will retire my surg practice and guide for crappie. I will have two
Hang in there with your Alterra, I'm retired fish as often as can, upper midwest and multiple trips to Canada each summer. TIGHT LINES
Best decision I ever made was selling it a week after it got fixed for the second time. Ulterra sucks. Terrova for life.
A Terrova doesn't cost $5,000. Even the new Terrova Quest doesn't cost $5,000. The Ulterra Quest costs a little more than $4,000. Comparing the Ulterra and Terrova is apples and oranges.
@@warrenrayledbetter9957 I think the title of the video went way over your head bud.
Greenbay fan in KC???? You are nuts
I was born and raised in Wisconsin so...
Have any cheese with that wine. 😢
Yes. Your mom brought me some.
I think the cost of electronics, batteries, trolling motors is going to exceed the cost of my boat. Anyone else experience this lol
That’s a good problem to have!
New t shirt…I don’t have to justify shit to anybody
Great idea 😎
I just punched the ulterra, dealer told me if you only fish A few times A month I should be okay
Cool video ! Keep up the good work and keep creating! Wish you All the best :)
hold it still. they cant catch it
For the record regarding my previous comment!
Gentlemen,
I was finally able to get up with Trolling Motor Services Plus yesterday after numerous attempts.
Thanks for watching
Sweet Packers flag
bait moving to fast lol
Seems like it but that’s what gets them fired up. Don’t want them to get a second look at it when they’re finicky
Ok now into video 7 minutes and no mention of difference,,,,what now you are going to start.
The difference is that one is a massive pile of shit and the other isn’t. That help?
@@KansasAnglingExperience yep and took 5 seconds
@@buckrockerm I don’t make money on 5 second videos bud! Thanks for watching!
Well no offence but that video was a big waste of my time
More of a waste of time than your comment?
Good luck.
😂😂😂 Good luck in your search!
Hey EW.....Don't be such a judgmental deuche...If you don't like the video don't watch it!!
Total waste of my time
Misleading title !!! downvote
Sorry but when you do the math, a Terrova and Ulterra bought in the same month is actually more than 5000 so yes, it is misleading, because I spent more.
@@KansasAnglingExperience I wasn't referring to the $$
@@FranklinHicks-qs4gs so then…what else is misleading because that’s all the title is referring to…..
@@KansasAnglingExperience are you sure wou uploaded the correct video
Are you sure you commented on the correct video?
That is the same story I hear from all the Ultera guys I run into$3500 Ornament for your boat!
