    I use the exact SSD on my PC and I'm just really amazed by its performance. I Stored Movies and even edit with it using demanding softwares, tested it by transferring huge files like TV series back and forth and I say its pretty fast for an external SSD that is literally the size of your thumb (or even smaller lol). So far this SSD is a tiny beast for me. Worth every penny! 👍🏼👍🏼

    Have you tried recording ProRes Log 60 fps with these? I've tried doing that using UHS-1 SD and card reader but can only handle ProRes Log 30 fps and nothing above that. I'm thinking of getting this so I can do an external recording at 60 fps.

    • @ZenTheGeek

      it can, but definitely not for not more than an hour, the throttling will be insane it's not built for that

    Would you recommend this over the bigger portable ssd's such as the Crucial X8/X6, Samsung T7 Shield, or Kingston XS2000? I originally want an Adata SE880 but unfortunately, it is not available in my country.

    • @ZenTheGeek
      @ZenTheGeek  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is small size for those who dont want to carry bigger, portable SSDs. Your choices vs this in speed will be close, but of course due to the ESD310C's smaller size, it'll throttle faster than bigger SSD's, which is the rule in this tech. It can be fast, but it'll be hot faster, so be sure to anticipate how big the files you want to transfer at a time. I recommend moving it in batches

    Is it true that it gets so hot that after a few minutes, the transfer rate drops to 40MB/s ?

    • @ZenTheGeek
      @ZenTheGeek  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      this happens to lots of portable memory today, it's called throttling. However, to reach that level of throttling requires a very uncommonly high volume of data to move around, and more informed users usually would split their transfers to prevent overheating since no products in this category is free of that issue.

    Thanks for a useful review of the drive. One tiny thing, it's a lot easier to parse Crystal Disk Mark data on the table it produces. We have all seen that table so many times, that we can quickly glance and take in what we need to know. It took much longer with your on screen text. Sorry to be picky, but feedback has to be useful... Surely?

    • @ZenTheGeek
      @ZenTheGeek  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes, but you still need to monitor temperature as it's a really small piece of memory. Heat is sensitive, and will affect the speeds of the memory, and that in turn will affect smoothness, load times and FPS. Also, prolonged exposure to high heat for such tech will eventually damage it, so do be careful. It's worth a try regardless.

    BEWARE: My work gave me a brand new Transcend portable SSD and it lasted about a month. Once it got to 50%-75% full, it just stopped playing ball. Constantly hangs and would crash my computer. • @ZenTheGeek
      @ZenTheGeek  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I understand your frustration, but how does one failure conclude that an entire product line is faulty? It's fair that you might not want to support the brand after this, but what happened to you might have been just a faulty product that could be replaced. If you could get another SSD from the same brand AND it failed on you AGAIN, then I would believe you. One fault does not represent a brand's quality in total. I'm not being bias, I'm just being fair. Doesn't matter if I had an SSD from any other brand, because it can happen there, in tech, there are no guarantees

And I hadn't used it, I just plugged it into my laptop! Then I tried to write some information on it! My laptop told me that I have reached a critical temperature on one of my USB ports! Please don't be fooled into spending your money on this thing! It's not worth it and one thing is clear, the information you store on this disk will be irretrievably lost!

      Every product will and will not perform in ideal scenarios. It's simply the nature of things. All brands may exaggerate their performance but so far it's worked for me and MY needs. You will need to elaborate on your requirements, and if it's more demanding than what this product offers, then it's simply not for you, it's not a bad product for me and a lot of people in my field that adopted the same product.

      For a self-contained flash thumb drive without a cable if you think 800 MB/s is bad for a 20 GB file then you not well informed. Most throttle much worse than that. I’m frankly sceptical these times are real. We will see. Good speeds.
