There were so many ways they could've skinned this cat and they chose THE most brutal way lmao. All they had to do was admit Arena was a bust and ask for more moneh.
It's funny, EVE players rioted over the funding of other game ventures, which for the industry has been a pretty typical expectation. But EVE was already released for many years at that point. Now all these early-access games are trying to do that, and wondering why they're getting blow-back. Well, I mean they're pretending to be surprised by the blow-back, and pretending to care. Your last point sounds fantastic, but so many of these devs are completely divorced from humanity. I've seen so many projects do fantastic by treating their players like friends, you know, talking to them about your ups and downs. When they're struggling, they let us know. But this is rare, and what we're seeing here is the typical fake surprise and false emotions of a corporate construct attempting to mimic emotion.
"Can gamers grow a backbone?" There's definitely some truth to this. But the timing is funny, as thr Helldivers 2 Community retaliated so hard against Sonny that they reversed their PSN requirement.
@@zenmello7616 It would be if they would stop messing around trying to create a spin off of the game instead of fixing their games. I stopped playing live tarkov due to the matching times being 5-10 mins just to get into raid.
Borderlands 2 had this "buy this bundle and you get all the DLC" thing. then they put out more dlc after they did not include. It's the standard, not the acceptation, and it shouldn't be legal. Bethesda did this for the anniversary DLC bundle thing that had "all the creation club content"...then they put out more creation club content, guess what, not included. Needs to not be legal. If there is an "all inclusive" bundle it needs to give you access to every damn pixel the game ever squeezes out for the rest of goddamn time.
The gamer community as a whole has become profoundly enabling to bad corporate behaviour. Nobody wants to not buy a game their friends might be playing because of corporate decisions... Tarkov is based more off of the STALKER games derived from the movie, yes. The entire Arena mode is a spritiual successor to the arena in STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl which appears in a HUB, this is why BSG/Nikita kept saying the Arena is a real world place you can go to with a trader associated wit hti, because the original idea they were copying was the same. The only thing they've done different is a sprint-time aesthetic, no radiation and no magic/anomalies.

"No sleep Linus is a heck of thing." Don't you mean "Paint fumes Linus"?
Also, Fun fact, Luke. Gray Zone Warfare launched with the same slimy pay to win type deal. The enhanced editions of the game come with bigger storage and stuff.
People complain and then two weeks later, they forget about it because its fun. Welcome to weakness. As consumers we could EASILY make the market how we want and hold developers accountable by just having a spine and not buying into these games, but people do it anyways and well... here we are. *damn, I typed this right before Linus said the exact same thing. lmao
For $250, you can buy: Elden Ring Baldurs Gate 3 Helldiver 2 Manor Lords Deep rock Galactic That’s the value here. At least 5 other games of your choice for the price of $250 of disrespect.
Randy Pitchford also tried to play around with the definition of DLC in the past and in his case he was successful. Basically he claimed that BL3 would have no micro transitions, but when the game launched there were skins you could buy and since they weren't part of the main game's files and you would have to buy them outside the game and download them, technically they qualified as DLC which was his argument.
So I tried Grey Zone Warfare today and my potato can play Tarkov okay but not this game, the only way I could get decent frames was the dynamic res which made it look horrrible. Not really on them but I wont be able to play it until I decide I can upgrade.
SpTarkov is the PERFECT mod if you want to enjoy Tarkov as a SP experience. No loading queue, much better perfomance, adjustable everything. Ive been playing for a while and its no more or less buggy either.
I have never played Tarkov, but from a gamedev standpoint, adding a paid PvE offline mode will only split the playerbase. Right now the game is popular because no matter what you will always run into another player, but with games that split their playerbase like this, chance encounters become much more rare.
First of all, bad move by this company. Second of all, the players' opinions dont mean crap unless it costs the company money. Im not saying it isnt right now, but too often people's solution is to complain online and then keep paying the company for the convenience because people dont have the balls to find other hobbies. Thirdly, is it really the entire community (90% will suffice to qualify as "entire) or is it just a loud minority?
The Automatons have stopped Super Earth from launching more Super Destroyers. They have given a month for all Helldivers to bend to the whims, and give them our military intelligence, or get disconnected from Super Earth. We will not stand for this. Streamers will continue to play they are imcentivised to do so. Players will continue to play. Some will leave. A lot will stay and this will blow over. Games will get worse monetization, it is a long slope from horse armour to here and beyond. People buy it and the outrage dies out. Everytime
The term Luke is searching for isn't "beta", it's "abuse victim". The pattern of rewarding an abuser through continued loyalty isn't peculiar to gamers or the games industry -- it's a pattern in other forms of abuse too.
It's more than essentially, Arena itself in Tarkov is a ripoff of the STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl Arena in the HUB city that Duty takes care of. You can tell because the artwork for the title of Arena and the Arena text in STALKER are the same.
My favorite part is this is the perfect example of how when gamers complain about how the industry does something universally seen as bad, they’re still gonna buy it and therefore tell the industry that this is A-OK to do. Until you vote with your wallets, they aren’t gonna stop doing the thing that makes them money, *especially* the major publicly traded publishers. Anything they do that nets shareholders a return is what they’re gonna always do, so you need to prove that strategy to be terrible by resisting FOMO for half a bloody second.
I started on the standard edition. It was so much more difficult to get anywhere. The inventory system sucks. Edge of Darkness gives you a major advantage in economy which is basically progression. Max starting stash size, biggest pouch at start, more guns ammo gear. Yet the max inventory is still too small and the system still sucks.
My friends convinced me to buy Tarkov at the start of last year. I seriously regret it, it's a sweaty, cheater ridden cesspit of a community and it was already P2W before this new ridiculous edition. I feel dirty for buying it, and I'll never trust these friends again
As someone who has never played but heard about the news, I've been waiting to hear Luke's take. I havent had the time to watch or skim thru the live wan shows
so for me i have the prepare to escape edition which is one edition below EOD and to unlock the PVE mode it would cost me £151.28 to upgrade just to unlock PVE
Another note on the increased flea slots. Back around 2016 we used to have that many slots and they lowered it to hamper RMT farmers. So BSG are making us pay to get back what we used to have.
Anyone playing Tarkov after this is part of the problem, even streamers. Yes the streamers might be dependent on the game for income but that don't justify them encouraging bad devs to continue.
This would be the perfect time for a developer to drop a game called "Pay2Win" and straight up tell people what it is as a "joke" but gamers would be like "ya lets stick it to the man by backing this game"
I bought EOD 6 years ago, they're letting you play PVE if you have EOD, my buddy had eod, and got access to pve. Neither of us have time to grind pvp anymore. I dropped the extra 50 to play PVE with my boys asap. I've got my money's worth
At first you hear "$250!", and think this is insane... but then you remember that WOW is $15/month, or $180 a year, and if you cancel, you lose all your cool stuff. And people have been subscribed for years. And the moment they stop paying, all their stuff is gone.
From what I've seen and heard from other Tarkov players is that the main problem is the fact that BSG went back on their word. EOD players were meant to get all future DLCs and some perks for being a supporter. The stash size and increased trader rep isn't a huge issue. The reinforcement flair being in the PvP mode and the fact that the PvE was considered not DLC, basically sent a message to the player base that we didn't matter anymore. We only supported them and mattered if we upgraded to a $250 version. That's my two cents on the issue at least. I've moved on to SPT until they get their act together. Unfortunately there isn't really any real alternative to Tarkov at the moment. GZW has aspects of Tarkov but its not suppose to be a Tarkov replacement. I've seen gameplay and most of my friends agree that as nice as it looks it really doesn't act the same way Tarkov does. The only other option is a mobile port of an extract shooter.
I don't think the price is the issue. It's more that they introduced a new price tag for something people were expecting to receive for free. They probably could have set this at $5 and still gotten flack. Because the primary complaint is that a promise has been broken and trust has been lost
You guys didnt discuss some of the most heinous shit that they did last week - but this is a really good overview of what went wrong here I personally will not be playing this game ever again
Just starting the video, so this may be covered, but one thing no one is asking is why? I think BSG are broke, from a bloated and extended dev period on the game, the failure of Arena and the game being however many years old atm, I just don't the game is generating enough revenue. Also and I hate to bring it up, but it may be relevant, we are talking about a company HQ'd in Russia, run by Russians...the embezzlement capitol of the world.
Their finances are in huge trouble, they blew a ton of money away advertising EFT Arena as a competitive e-sport game and when people got their hands on it they showed it was as broken and worthelss as the base game and any e-sporters lost interest right away and the game was forgotten, they easily spent millions on that project. The irony is that Arena is based on the Arena in STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl's HUB town, you can tell it's a successor to that idea because the way they write Arena is the same.
@@kirche7 Right but the point of shell companies is evading the law. If the shell company is in the UK and everything is legit, the UK isn't going to Russia to investigate the Russisn branch of the company.
I always hate when people say stuff like "Oh it's just cosmetics who cares" or "if you don't like it just don't buy it!". It's because of that mentality that the industry is in the awful state that it's in now, if people really complained even after Bethesda released the stupid horse armour, we probably wouldn't have all these stupid battlepasses and microtransactions. I saw this in Helldivers 2, people keep saying that "oh but you can farm the currency there is no reason to buy!" without realising that without paying you'd have to play the game fro something between 80 to 100 HOURS to unlock the stupid premium battlepass which contains things that actually changes the gameplay.
@@kopfschuss881 who? It's not really an uncommon thing anyway, you can find plenty saying "it's just cosmetics" like it makes it any better, so I won't be surprised if someone already said it.

Nikita knows he can push this bs cause he just has to find the sweet spot to appease people just enough and theyll eat this shit up
a feature that should have been in the base edition of tarkov, and they're charging $250 for it.
basically sums up modern tarkov.
"some games are like, you can drop in 6 months later, and fundamentally kind of know what you're doing"
Honestly, I was already thinking of Team Fortress 2 when Linus said this, even before the next sentence.
The price was just the match that lit the fire. The nerve, to attempt to force this down our throats, after THEY decided to use OUR money to fund a game (Arena,) that NO ONE asked for... before even finishing the game WE paid for... is CRAZY.
The uninstall bar was slowly going up as I watched this. I was starting to fall out of love with Tarkov, but this pushed me over.
And this is why more people are playing older games, heck I'm playing my backlog on steam and other consoles.

And yet they still haven’t fixed the hacker problem with people wall hacks, and flying around oh the irony
The gamer community as a whole has become profoundly enabling to bad corporate behaviour. Nobody wants to not buy a game their friends might be playing because of corporate decisions... Hell, the majority don't even want to ditch Windows despite the new baked in advertising and general broken state because a couple games might be more difficult to run on Linux. I miss those days video games were just for fun and not greed.
as the hobby grew to an industry, of course it was gonna attract gouls to corrupt it
The problem is that video games were for greed as far back as the fucking 70s and early 80s.
Yo grandpa calm down, there are at least 10 times as many games available nowadays that are just as fun for cheap, if u only play top cost big studio production games then its ur fault u dont know about other games.

isn't Tarkov based off Andrei Tarkovsky movie Stalker, which was also turned into multiple video games before Tarkov, so i don't know where they are coming from saying other people ripped them off
Tarkov is based more off of the STALKER games derived from the movie, yes.
@@Rexhunterj STALKER GAMMA is amazing! It's a free (really, legally) version of a heavily modded map of all the STALKER games. I wonder how difficult it would be to set up a no anomalies version for Tarkov players.

I have some tarkov friends and they claim they bought EOD years ago and say they got their moneys worth for how much time they put in and are fine paying 250 (or 50$ upgrade Idfk). I keep telling them it’s a scam and they’re just smoking meth.
I don't know them but i'm fully agreed with them since i'm also had the eod pack and i fricking loving this game. Which actually makes me think about Nikita's words about true fans. Maybe he wasn't so wrong after all.
$250 is an absolute scam, lmao.
No1 is forcing any1 to buy, so no scam if u arent forced to
EOD was supposed to include all future content. Since it didn't, by definition, nobody got their money's worth. It's objectively a scam.
I keep telling people this. If you don't want to support this behavior, don't buy it. There's a good reason I don't buy EA, Ubisoft, or the Ark devs. Bethesda is getting there too. "But it won't matter cause people still rush to buy it."
If enough people say no, then it will happen. Grow a pair.

An indication of how big a deal this is, even Philip Defranco picked up the story 😂 Sad part is there are STILL going to be players shouting "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" waving their credit cards around 🤦
I spent €140 because I was promised I'd get all future content as well as have the best version of the game and that nothing else would replace it. Suddenly they decided to walk back on both of those promises. Refunds are tricky to get so long after a purchase, and the idiots buying the upgrade don't make BSG want to walk back on this. I hate modern gamers, literally no backbones or morals.
There is a recent early access game I found that is a tarkov style shooter that is solely PvE with Co-op called Incursion Red River, definitely worth a look if anyone wants that style of game without paying out the nose, the game is $16.99 US and is honestly a lot of fun and customizable for your loadouts.
technically the base game is also dlc

These two things do not belong in a sentence together.
I’m really interested in this topic and wanted to hear Luke talk more, especially since he plays the game regularly
12:21 this version could have that name on steam and it would still be bought
I'm so glad I still have the "not rightfully acquired" copy of the game.
Absolutely hilarious they say not to blame the streamers who are tho ones who made the game popular and will encourage normal people to buy the dlc 😂😂

I'm not even a Tarkov player but it's refreshing to see common sense from any other gamer.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the game.
Nikita calling Arena Breakout a plagiarized version is tarkov is laughable when when Tarkov is essentially a plagiarized version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R

This is Wondershare Filmora's lifetime licence all over again
Another note on the increased flea slots. Back around 2016 we used to have that many slots and they lowered it to hamper RMT farmers.
So BSG are making us pay to get back what we used to have.
Tarkov has apparently made some announcement reversing course in some capacity but I don’t know any details

15:54 Then they came for me ,and there was no one left to speak for me
Anyone playing Tarkov after this is part of the problem, even streamers.
So many years and people are still trying to escape Tarkov
I bought EOD 6 years ago, they're letting you play PVE if you have EOD, my buddy had eod, and got access to pve. Neither of us have time to grind pvp anymore. I dropped the extra 50 to play PVE with my boys asap. I've got my money's worth
How is there still so much latency between them talking if Linus' house and office both have gigachad internet?
You guys didnt discuss some of the most heinous shit that they did last week - but this is a really good overview of what went wrong here
I personally will not be playing this game ever again
They're headquartered in the united kingdom, you're clueless my man.
