      She is right about people. Because when I finally got my own flat after several years of living in insecure accomodation I always used to give money to homeless beggars because I knew what their situation was like. Then when I was 30 years old in 1996 I became homeless again after a council flat exchange I had went wrong.

    I am a friend of Sharon, I typically see her once or twice a week and we call and text more than that. Recently she was kicked out of the Travelodge accommodation the council put her in (not through any real fault of her own, one manager just really looked down on her) and the council is mulling about, not helping her find anywhere else so the street it is (she is literally homeless right now, cannot find anywhere to stay). Am trying to help her at least get a tent, hopefully she will get her own place soon and the council will provide something in the meantime (but we aren’t holding our breaths). She is a very intelligent lady and is lovely, always wanting to help me out when I need it. I just wish I could help her out more than I do, she deserves it.
    She does read these comments occasionally and it puts a smile on her face, she wanted to show me this the first time she met me. She can be so happy and has a wicked sense of humour. She’s feeling a bit hopeless at the moment but if she can get in her own little permanent place we think her life will change completely and until then, hopefully an organisation or the council will do their jobs that our tax money pays for and help her out.
    Thank you to whoever made this, for putting her story out there for people to see and making her voice heard.

I am really distressed to think what might happen regarding violence perpetuated onto these folks in need, by others.John (Australia)

    Heartbreaking. So glad this lady is now off the streets and safe. I worked with the homeless on a voluntary basis for over fourteen years. Overall bar a few they are a great bunch, on the street for a myriad of reasons. Most just want a home and a job they are not the last feckless drink and drug addled job people whom have never faced hardship assume them to be. Everyone deserves shelter, food and warmth whomever they are. Don't judge them , he kind. You know the old saying Price comes before a fall.

      I usually give the homeless a little cash ~ I was on holiday in Blackpool last year & a woman from Shelter saw me giving cash & she told played hell, said I should set up a dd to shelter, which I refused. I REFUSED. She got nasty & asked how I'd feel if they got drugs & died. I felt like crying.

    I feel for these people. Society is awful. I went through a period in 2014 where I didn’t know what the hell was going on. Divorced, alcoholic, not allowed to see my son, It’s a horrible downward spiral. The government should be sorting help for all these people. Bollocks to the billions spent on Covid-19. Spend money helping these people out. 👍

    I was homeless on and off for 22 year from 1996 until 2018. In the 1990s it was a lot better for the homeless because there were more homeless daycentres and soup kitchens. And you could sell loads of Big Issues because it was a lot cheaper back then. Now that the Big Issue costs three pounds you can hardly sell any. There were also lots of squats around back in the 1990s that homeless people used to stay in. I stayed in a couple of Emmaus hostels where the homeless have to work collecting and selling secondhand furniture and clothes etc in their shops. But I left there because the work hours were far too long. I used to live a squat with a few other homeless people and then in a tent in woods several miles from central London. And also for several months in a couple of eco villages in the suburbs. But those eco villages got evicted because they were on squatted land. They were started by new age people. It was quite good there.

    • @susanelliott2287
      @susanelliott2287 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Angus MeIgh. So sad to hear your story. No one deserves to go through that. There is a new act of parliament called the Homelessness reduction act. It helps people like yourself off the street, may be a good idea to have a word with your local council. It was brought in after a massive campaign by Shelter. Hope this helps hon. Good luck and kind wishes. In the meantime please stay as safe as you can.😘

      work hours too long? you have to work as hard as you can 40, 50 60 hours a week to survive, you were not prepared to do that hence you were on the street, at some point you have to man up life is hard and you choose your destiny.

    • @angusmeigh5141
      @angusmeigh5141 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stevepoo1762 No one would have to work long hours if rents and house prices were not so extremely sky high!!!! For example back in 1984 I was only paying 20 pounds a week for a room in a bed and breakfast hotel! Even taking into account inflation that would still be no more than about 70 pounds a week in todays money! But you cant get anywhere for that now! And there is no need for everyone to work very long hours! It is because the system is so very fucked up and needs changing!
