- Inputs: orange and red gear shafts.
Output: blue shaft.
The jade shaft is fixed to the blue shaft, forming a cross shape.
The pink gears idly rotate on the jade axle.
The yellow gear blocks idly rotate on the blue shaft.
The tooth number of the yellow gears is Z2.
The tooth number of the pink, orange and red gears is Z1.
Ng = (No+Nr)/(Z2/Z1)/2
Ng: speed of the blue output shaft
No: speed of the orange input gear shaft
Nr: speed of the red input gear shaft
The above formula is used when the two input shafts rotate in opposite directions.
In this video Z2=32; Z1=16 so Ng = (No+Nr)/4
The video shows a case where the orange shaft rotates first then the red shaft.
This gearbox can be used to combine two different motion sources for a unique output shaft.
Your library of mechanical design is amazing. Long time fan. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words and support.
Thanks for sharing your designs!
Thank you for your support.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Very good idea!
next: connect orange shaft & red shaft with Variable Pulley, cvt
What is the goal?
@@thang010146 when cvt ratio changes,
the blue shaft can rotate from forward to backward smoothly
I think the smoothness only depends on the CVT.
This gearbox doesn't contribute to that.
Amazingly simple, it's actually elegant. I think the output is based on the average of the 2 inputs' speed?
Please read the video description.
What's the use of this
This gearbox can be used to combine two different motion sources for a unique output shaft.
Hybrid powertrain
It could also replace a clutch with say a band brake. If one input is undriven/free to rotate no torque will be sent between driven input to the output.
Can you make a system where theres and input and two outputs, and if you turn the input left the left output turns, but when you turn the input right the right output turns? Probably sounds complicated
One solution:
The input shaft is connected to 2 output shafts by 3 gears.
In each gear of the output shaft put a one-way overrunning clutch, (something like this: th-cam.com/video/bAL_nWjuhOI/w-d-xo.html)
The clutches are arranged in opposite directions.
@thang010146 thank you
