The wall is a great way to practice. Be creative in finding a little bit of wall space if your courts doesn't have one. Behind a school, strip mall etc.
I was just hitting against a wall today and trying to think of things to do. These exercise ideas are great! I’m super impressed with your wall skill. It’s not easy. I have a tendency to hit too hard. I think you suggested hitting softer and going for accuracy. 👍 You really provide great content. Thank you for your time!
One of the greatest women players of all-time Monica seles it was a wall on a consistent basis and it seemed to work pretty good for her. Thank you for the drills
I I feel pooped just watching your work out. Great ideas about how to get the most out of hitting against the wall. Makes it more purposeful. Thank you for the tips.
Thanks so much for this video. I practiced a couple of times this week with an older ball. I was wondering if there is any ball that bounces higher - as I found that compared to a real rally on a tennis court, the balls I hit on the wall bounce lower. If there was a way of practicing high bounces on a wall I think that would help me alot.
Hi, at 6:10 just wondering did you change your grip at all or just kept it at continental no.2 ? As for topspin 1 hander supposedly we use no.1 grip. I'll try these drills thanks a lot !!
I believe the tenniswall is for young tennis players what those sandy crappy Brazilian soccer fields are for soccer players. That's were you develop great technique! I just to train on the wall day in day out. At home too. I even trained my feel on my volleys by hitting the balls with very much precision on the roof (that was like with descending roof tiles) so that it would not go over to the other side, and it couldn't bounce so it would have to have to glide back from the top between the roof tiles and than I would hit another volley without the ball dropping to the ground. That was so much fun and definitely among the reason why I develop great volley and dropvolley skills.
Bravissima avete ottime strutture per allenamento tennis qui da noi siamo al tempo del medio evo le strutture sono per pochi ciao sei brava con il tennis mi piacerebbe fare una partita con te ciao😊👌
Another question is how to hit so much repetitions. At 340 sw and 12.5oz, making past 26 shots is difficult enough for me. I can still in control of the ball but I am out of breath after 20 shots.
Meike, what is your opinion about practicing these drills using 2 ball kicks (mandatory, not occasional) instead of 1? The theory behind it is to get a more realistic court situation and giving you more time preparation and focus on executing a good technique? ty! :)
The wall is the single most valuable tool a player at any level short of a pro has at their disposal. There is no other practice method that allows you to hit a ball a greater number of times per unit of time than the wall. It’s something you can do at a moment’s notice. Your not hindered by a hitting partners or coaches schedule. No ball machine setup or transport. No stopping to gather balls and reload the machine. The workload limit is set solely by your desire and ambition. You can work on new technique changes without the pressure of having to maintain a rally with another person. Stop and figure out mechanical flaws at anytime. Stand there for any length of time to analyze what’s actually going on with a stroke problem. Then see immediately if your idea for a fix worked. If not repeat again and again until you figure it out. The lessons you figure out for yourself are the ones you really remember. Sadly in tennis culture the wall is considered the realm of the beginner. I continued to hit regularly against the wall even after getting to a “advanced” level. On more than one occasion a fellow wall user would ask “Why are you hitting against the wall. You obviously don’t have to.” It’s a widely held belief that once you reach a certain level you graduate from the wall and it becomes something that is beneath you. The wall is the basketball equivalent of the guy shooting baskets buy himself. He’ll practice taking shots from various spots, work on new moves and reinforce executing old moves etc. In basketball culture it’s considered normal and a sign of good work ethic to work on your game by yourself, even pros do it. Sadly it’s rare to even see a usta 3.5 level tennis player hitting against the wall.
I don't want to get political but I never like walls ,and you as a German MEIKE should know that 😉 ,"jokes" aside , unfortunately in my area public tennis infrastructure is not abundant and private clubs very expensive and too far for a poor man like me without a German car or any car for that matter😂, nice to have you back MEIKE 👍🏻❤️ ,oh you know in my case I play against the fence instead of the missing wall 😂
Ha, yes, I don't like walls either :-) During lock down, I hit against the backwall of a school. Maybe you can find a non "traditional" wall somewhere.
My girls never feel like they have "time" when using the wall. Any ideas? I see that you're not very close (they could be too close), I also see that you don't split-step and you're already turned on most shots. Could that also be a problem? They are attempting to split-step and unit turn between shots. Thanks.
I guess I was lazy :-) You should split step! I'll do a better job next time. One thing that I'm noticing when I see ppl hitting on the wall is that they're hitting way too hard. So there simply will be no time. And yes, same thing if you're too close, you will have no time.
@@MeikeBabelTennis ah, makes sense. I do see them almost slapping the ball really hard against the wall. I wonder what their coach is teaching them lol.
I found that to be a great benefit of hitting the wall. Once you adjust to the faster return rate of the wall. Hitting with a person seems like there’s almost to much time between your hits. Slows the game down. You’re rarely rushed anymore.
Try hitting a little softer and aim a little higher so that there is an arch, gives you a bit more time. Or use green dot balls, that's what I do sometimes to slow things down a bit and work on correct technique.

I agree! And thank you!
great video ... challenging to control return speed to be prepared for return and proper form .. thanks for posting

Great stuff, Meike B! Now I just need to find a proper wall. They are a dying breed out here in Cali!
During lockdown I got really creative finding non-traditional walls :-) Backside of a school, backside of a strip mall :-)
Enjoyed this, great job!
Thank you!
Awesome lesson 👍
work on it right the way. Thanks.
Thank you Meike.. Awesome training tips and drills..

2 for continental grip for slice and then I change it to 1 for regular backhand

How far do you start away from the wall, please?
Thanks for these wall drills! When hitting the half volley, do you use a continental grip?
Yes I do! You just gotta make sure that the racket face is not too open so the ball doesn't roll over the top of the frame.

Very good madam
wow, what a workout. I'm going to go in w/ the goal of 20 shots! What percentage power are your fh/bh compared to your normal friendly rally ball?
Maybe 70%? Definitely not quite as fast as a rally ball.
how far away from the wall should I be?

When I practice my one handed backhand against the wall, everything is ok. But in a match.... I cannot loose my arm enough. That is my problem.
Yeah, you definitely tense up when you get nervous. Been there done it. Keep moving a lot and take lost of deep breaths!
