Im just finding about this now. Never played driver 1 or 2, a little bit of 3 and san francisco. Even tho i havent, this looks super cool. I love it when people revive old games!
I was on the forums in 2016, when this game was still a concept. Everyone had so many different ideas and opinions on how it should go. I'd say, it's for the best. I promised to model a few vehicles for it. That eventually happened with me getting help from other community members to add some vehicles into the game as mods. Maybe next year I'll be able to dedicate more time to this game instead of my other projects. We'll see.
@@VortexStory Maybe you can be here again 2025 or 26 for the 10th anniversary, if we're going to use the old madness forum as a marker for when this project started.
Such a great update and I'm glad it's finally out for everyone to enjoy! I love how much more aggressive the cops are, and how far we can really push the map's draw distance to get a better view scale! Lots of maps are gonna SHINE with this update once they're fixed some things! Plus lots of neat little QoL things that you wouldn't normally see in a Driver game but make Syndicate really pop out as something fresh and new in the series! And the ActiveLife AI, oh my gosh is it so unpredictable now! Losing cops is so much more fun, and chases/races are gonna feel all the more lifelike! Kudos to Soapy for getting this where it's at now! I'm very excited to finally get a better version of my Chicago map out for players to check too! I've put in so much work to get it where it's at, and there's still so so so much more work to be done. But we're finally doing it in full force! (Had I known you were gonna feature a clip of Chicago here, I would've sent you one with better quality ) Also: @5:47 "And thank him for his ***." Vortex 2024 Great video as always!
I have a new idea in car selection menu, what about adding a garage section in the menu where you can: Customize your car, adding body kits, nitro, Custom wheel styles, decals--> where I can download decals from the internet & add it to the car, changing the colors of the decals, changing the car color, etc.... etc... Please add this in the game. That would be cool.
I like this idea but it would require a crapton of editing to alot of community car assets. Many vehicles will need to be remodelled to accomodate customization, and decals will have to be designed ofc. This idea reminds me alot of Parallel Lines, but it can only be done if people have time on their hands, which alot of us don't.
According to Discord "How to fix vcruntime140_1.dll and eqD3D9RHI.dll error -> Download the dependencies: (for Runtime, download both x68 and x86)". Did you download the game from itchio?
@VortexStory That's ok too, I thought I could put my newly acquired Blender animation skills to practice, guess I'll finish my formation then maybe do some mods.
This can easily be mistaken for GTA3 at times. I don't like that it resembles GTA and lost its DRIVER identity. But I appreciate that DRIVER is being kept alive in some form or another.
@@VortexStory We are both very passionate about the game. There is a certain charm to the 2 originals that any remake or even remaster would be hard to capture their essence without losing some of this charm imo, but I am still open to the possibility of that not being the case. Sadly for me, DS loses it. Yes GTA3 is more cartoonish. I preferred DRIV3R in its beta stage before it received a polish to the gritty graphics at the time - this gave it a more cartoonish vibe also. In some weird way I think the limitations of the PS1 done the originals a favour in terms of the style they went with.
Driver 2 did come out before GTA 3. Although, had GTA 3 come out on PS1 the load times for GTA 3 would be excessively long. Rockstar had made The Italian Job on PS1. It was more like Driver, missions, but no guns, but 3D and free roam through 2 cities. Driver had more cities and loaded faster.

For some odd reason, I cannot get the game to run properly because of missing DLL files. This is getting very frustrating. Any suggestions?

@@VortexStory Yes.

This already looks like a modern game, what an incredible job.
Is there a way to actively help development, providing assets and things like that?
Perhaps on the Driver discord, but Soapy prefers to work alone on the core game, while providing an open platform for the community content

GTA III is much cartoonish than Syndicate tho'! And The Classic Syndicate is closer to the original Driver PS1 Experience

Martin Edmondson was in favour of "desaturated" colours to give the games an old film look, given the hardware limitations. :jack
